A little about the artwork I do in this video: Firstly, I’m old and overthink stuff a lot, so safety was covered - don’t just run up on tidal beaches and start doing things without checking. As for the work, the piece of public art is part of a practice that I’ve had for awhile now. In terms of my ethical concerns in making this piece - I was keen to source glue that was as non-toxic as possible (this glue can be used in ‘food safe’ areas & and also stands in quite a small group of being largely recyclable in packaging). In regards toxicity, I made sure to confirm that my practice would have a ridiculously small impact on the river, being that there are lots of commercial/industrial level operations that treat the thames as a waste pipe (I obviously don’t agree with this, but would not put any type of glue in a smaller river). I also did a walk of the beach previously, in order to make sure there were other hard, tile like, materials on the river bed (of which there are many). As I said in the video, I care deeply about public art, and the value of things sitting within the landscape that represent individual expression - so with the above laid out - I signed the project off my side. My business email is Will.video24@gmail.com if you have some level of official concerns with any of this further, please get in touch.

I’m really proud of this one, and no joke it’s been a properly nourishing experience to connect with other artists on their journeys and put it together. No lie also to say the songs from the featured artists have been going through my head whilst I’ve been working on this, so I hope you’ll jump across and give some love to them for being dope and being a part of it. For further discussion of the ideas and texts, check out the Patreon here - www.patreon.com/CreativeMindsMembers . And thanks as always for watching.

As an artist and performer, I really connect with what @aysiaberlynn says, "I had to understand, you're not supposed to be like everybody else. You're really supposed to get up there and express who you are." I keep reminding myself I am doing this to connect with who I truly am, and it will resonate with whom it is meant to.

Yeah I hear that too. It's funny to me because I cover a lot of interviews with super well-known artists but it was connecting with these upcoming people that actually reflected a lot of my own experience more directly. What you've pulled out there makes a lot of sense to me too, and I'm really glad the video brought some value to you.

Watched almost all videos on your channel and this one was especially inspirational. To be honest at first the judemental part of me was like "who are these nonames..." but then it was really resonating with me and became an inspirational journey. For me my journey of becoming in artist in my late twenties was like a heroes journey (Joseph Camphell) especially starting at zero from a craft point of view but after 7 seven years of dedication i feel like i a m ready for the next steps on my journey. I thank you for all your efforts and also for sharing your personal journey. I think one great aspect of art and maybe for making connections/relations is showing my vulnerable side. It encourages/inspires others to shows their vulnerable side as well. Unfortunately its difficult in the highpolished/results orientated social media world we move and live in.... so we as artists are maybe somehow the ambassadors of the impferction and therefore of humanity (pathetic voice:))

Oh yes super happy you dug the artists in this one - I thought reaching out would be cool, but it over-shot my expectations by many many times. I respect the callout for a Discord, it's something I definitely wouldn't count out in the future. Still kind of in year 1 of actually having an audience for this channel, so trying to work a few things out in terms of trying to make it a full-time job and give me more time to work on different platforms. Thank you for the time and love you clearly put into these. This was probably my favourite video of yours so far. I got emotional watching it because the fear, the self doubt and the overthinking can get so real and paralysing as an artist, and it can feel like such a lonely path, especially if you lack a sense of artistic community or mentors around you. I have often found myself wishing there was an "artist helpline" i could call when i need guidance lol because there's such a lack of emotional guidelines /support when it comes to this type of life and journey i find. Your work is important.
My career has had a couple false starts, I have been given amazing opportunities and have played on amazing stages and worked with amazing people, only to then fall into a spiral of self-doubt and fear once things haven't panned out the way I expected them to. I am currently picking myself back up after a couple of years of putting my career on hold and not being able to write because it all felt too painful, so these videos and hearing about other peoples' experiences really does help. On a different note, it could be cool to explore rejection or perceived rejection / not getting the outcome you expect right away as a topic at some point (apologies if you have already and i've missed it). So self motivation and emotional resilience i guess. Another thing you kinda briefly touched on here and that i would love to go deeper into is intuition vs overthinking/fear. Like how to be able to tell those voices apart, both in your work, choices and even on questioning whether you should keep going altogether. Thank you x
EDIT: it just occurred to me that it could be really interesting for you to partner up with a psychologist/therapist at some point and make a video where they would offer deeper insights + advice on some of these psychological blocks that so many of us artists encounter . It could be like a conversation or Q&A between the both of you for example

    • @creativemindsyoutube
      @creativemindsyoutube  Před rokem +3

Wow, no joke, just seeing one comment on a video like this makes the time and effort of making it worthwhile. It's funny 'cause this one kind of felt a bit more exposing than other videos so far, and after posting it, it's been a process in my head to just kind of calm those thoughts and stay connected to why I got into it in the first place - and reading about it resonating in this way with your practice just really makes that process a lot easier.
I love the psychologist idea, and also the ideas around resilience and intuition vs overthinking. I think I could definitely use those as frameworks within my series of videos 'Artists speak on...' so keep an eye out, 'cause yeah, they are super interesting diving boards for exploring artist interviews.
Thanks for taking the time to write the comment/support the channel, and know that it really matters to me, and to the shape it all takes going forward.

I love your channel and the pacing, the energy, your way of delivering the Signal/Noise checklist (thank you so much for that!!) and the people who's beautiful insights and perspectives you share on your platform!!
I'm currently finishing out my portfolio website, I graduated uni with my B.S. in Engineering, subplan Product Design last month and finally giving myself permission to learn EditorX web design and make my portfolio website so I can begin my career as a Product Designer / Creative Consultant. I was averse to making my portfolio for so long because I had to take extra time (2016-2023) and doing school with undiagnosed Bipolar-1 and ADHD is uni on hard mode jaja. But now, making my portfolio and writing about my strongest work really forces me to examine how I place worth, and how much I've changed and so far feedback has been positive and encouraging. I'm trying to finish it by this Friday, I've been working on it for a month (first time doing any kind of web design but out of all the different website builders, so far EditorX has clicked the most with me bc I don't need to code)
Techniques like Signal/Noise and others you share really help provide a good structure I can keep in my back pocket to help overcome the intimidation and Show Myself What's Possible. Getting into Deep Work/Flow State for a session is great, and releasing perfectionism and the expectation that every piece will be my Magnum Opus and moving towards enjoying the Act of Creating has really helped me get better. Sometimes, a project will never see the light of day but it did help me get more familiar with tools to execute my ideas, or taking a break from that project and working on another idea helped me experiment. Just like in nature, when something dies and decomposes or creatures consume the thing, it contributes to its ecosystem. Thinking of my art and design work as "What will I contribute?" helps me get moving when I'm stagnant and also remind myself of how dynamic things are and that "Periods of Rest are Required to Reflect".
Mantras that help me with overcoming my own artistic bubble and being overly harsh on myself are:
    "Iterate, don't Ruminate".
"I am doing the best I can with what I have in current circumstances and capacity at this time"
These 4 really help when I get too overwhelmed or find something too daunting or intimidating and insurmountable:
"I know I can, and I will. I knew I could, so I did. Open task for future self. Take action for every version."
"Doing Dissolves Dread, Diligence Defeats Doubt"
I really love your channel and am very appreciative of your willingness to take on new challenges and develop your skills and share your journey as you continue to hone your ideas and perspective. I'll subscribe once I get my career started so in order to do that I need to finish my portfolio and star applying jaja.
Thank you so much! Cheers from National City, California 🚀⭐

I loved reading this - and really enjoyed the writing. I'm glad you got value from the 'Signal and Noise' section. I'm not in any way an expert on mental health conditions, but like a lot of people, I've had my own experiences and challenges, and also have a lot of people in my social circles who are diagnosed across different conditions. That signal and noise point is valuable to me when I'm trying to test what is going on in my head against a kind of solid reality - and just trying to get some semblance of objectivity in my decision making, so I'm just really glad it resonated for you.
I like everything you write about the importance of experimentation, and being free to pickup and drop projects. It's easy to think we have to stick to one thing, and focus, and just keep pushing it - but often finding success as creatives is a case of making a bunch of things, and building a bunch of skills, then just letting them off into the world and seeing what connects with people and comes back.
Peace to you and thanks so much for writing, keep in touch with the channel.
