Thank you for the list!! It was so good to see the Dead Boys there! 'Sonic Reducer' is probably their big 'hit', but one of my favorites is 'High Tension Wire'. Boy, is that one wild! I also enjoy The Damned. Great British punk! I have a compilation album with a cover of 'White Rabbit' that is absolutely splendid!! A little surprised that nothing showed up from the B-52s, if for no other reason than their commercial success compared to so many on your list. Maybe they don't meet your requirement for the genre? Of course (meaning, I agree) Sex Pistols and Ramones at the top of the list.

What do they say these days: 'I hate to be that guy, but...' You found choosing a Top 50 too hard, so there are 51 in your list. Seriously, I was writing them down. You list Slaughter and the Dogs as No.47, then read out the next six without referring to their ranking and advise that No.40 is your 41! Sorry for being a spotter! Great list, I have or have had about 40 of them, but CHELSEA, 999, Adam and the Ants, would be in there and some of the others would swap about. Thanks again for your thought-provoking content.

Greetings again from the West Coast - next to the hometown of The Pointed Sticks. They released 5 singles (you showed the second) 1978-81 - all very collectible - and an LP in 1980. We know you like Stiff Records and in 2008 a CD was released in Japan called "The Stiff Sessions". Recorded in 1980 at Surrey Sound. I don't know if this was the city of Surrey (a suburb of Vancouver) that I live in, or a studio in the county down the road from you. Reformed early 2000s and still performing sporadically. WRT 1979 UK punk, check out "Crash Victim" by The Commited (sic) on Ace Records 1979. A track on an EP with 4-tracks. Ultra-rare and expensive. Reminds me of the sound on the first Saints LP. Its on CZcams.

Hi Chris. Enjoyable video as usual. Most of my favourites featured somewhere in your list. I'd have put Jilted John in there for the TOTP performance. I think This Perfect Day would have been my no1. With many of the bands you showed it's difficult to choose a favourite. One that didn't quite make your list but would definitely be in mind is Read About Seymour. Good stuff.

Nice selection. If i could bend the parameters that you set, i would include Demon's 1982 classic, the Unexpected Guest. Also, and this really bending the rules, i would include L'Elite by Trust - who sounded just like NWOBHM bands but were French! They even recorded English versions of their songs but these were inferior. I think Maiden with D'Ianno were the ultimate NWOBHM band - mudt be his punky vocals I like.

    • @TheVinylOrchard

Saw trust live. They were supporting Iron Maiden. Nicko was drumming for them. I love L’Elite. Guitar solo is a masterpiece. Have got UK and French repression. Dianno maiden so much better than Bruce Maiden.

Good to see that you have got the Warhorse album. I have reissue on vinyl which i bought in 83 (when i was listening to all things connected to Purple eg Green Bullfrog, Elf etc). However when they reissued the album they changed its name to Vulture Blood. It is a good album with the stand out track, Burning. The guitar by Jed Peck sounds very like Blackmore. It strikes me as if Warhorse were, in terms of sound, slightly behind the curve of Deep Purple MK2, Black Sabbath and Led Zep. Even though Simper plays well on this album, i can see why Blackmore preferred to have Glover. In 1970 Glover was a more rocky/progressive player thsn Simper. By the way i have listened to latest Deep Purple album once. It's OK but really for me, they lost their excitement after Burn. Mind you i am one of the few who likes Come Taste the Band (apart from the awful nsmr and album cover)!

@@TheVinylOrchard Bolin's playing on Spectrum by Billy Cobham is so good. Incidentally, I saw Purple play twice - Knebworth and in 87. I also saw Rainbow in 83. Blackmore is my favourite rock guitarist but I was slightly disappointed at all 3 gigs. I think Blackmore's sound live became a bit muddy after he left Deep Purple. However I would take this anytime over the too clinical playing of Steve Morse..

While having the singles on the albums might have enhanced the albums as a whole, that simply was not the point. Many bands at this time released singles first and then took the (in my view correct) view that asking people to pay for the same thing again was simply wrong and was symptomatic of a record industry that was more into money than music. Good choice of albums, I have many of them - my own list would certainly include the aforementioned 'Pink Flag' (or maybe 'Chairs Missing') by Wire, I would add 'The Quality of Mercy' by The Mekons, 'Christ - The Album' by Crass, 'Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables' by the Dead Kennedys and the ones I think are the most glaring omissions, 'Cut' by The Slits' and PILs 'Metal Box'.

By 1980 it was international with a concentration on UK punk and new wave bands. There were interviews with Cocteaus, Magazine, Young Marble Giants, etc. along with album and concert reviews. Hi there from America. Really enjoy your videos. I collected from back in the day and still somehow managed to keep in possession most of my records. I have that Chelsea 45 in your shelf with a wrong label on the b-side. A Step Forward record I believe but instead of the The Loner by Chelsea, it states "Television Families" by The Cortinas. Kind of wondering what the misprinted label is worth?
