Being a Hindu ... Why is Shashi Tharoor popularising the word in a religious manner. Didn't expect this from the well educated elitist Shashi Tharoor. Hindu just meant being a Indian before India was formed. Hindu is not a religion just like being an Indian is not a religion. But all of us just want to use any excuse to demean our own ancestors and their fight towards foreign ideologies.

Yes, Shashi Tharoor is highly intelligent. He has wide ranging interests, has a deep knowledge of history , not only of history but an intelligent understanding of the forces that have shaped that history. Apart from being intelligent, he is sensitive. He is the sort of person who could possibly put India again on the world map as Gandhi and Nehru did.

My parents were freedom fighters. My dad worked with Gandhi and Nehru as a student leader. He died last year at 96 because he was so disturbed about what was happening to his beloved India. My maternal grandfather was murdered in partition. We lost everything. Our families were refugees. It took 3 generations to get back to some normalcy in our lives financially. Still our families never complained. We were proud of our sacrifices. A Muslim friend of my maternal grandfather took care of my Mom and her family and got the ladies on the plane to with the jewelry in burkhas. For 3 days he risked his life. There were some bloodthirsty people on both sides but nowhere in the world has 'eye for an eye' brought good results. Never. Reason and harmony are the way to go. Also, we must remember we never had any rights before independence. Not everyone was Raja and Rani.
