2024 RAM 3500 Heavy Duty Cummins...Things I hate about this truck!

  • Owning the 2024 RAM 3500 HD is awesome, but it sucks at the same time. In 2024 RAM trucks are still very good, if not great. But, they just aren't where the other guys, Ford Super Duty and Chevrolet Silverado HD and Sierra HD are. That doesn't mean that this truck is junk or the last of the three. this truck shines in areas where others don't, but fails in some big areas for me. these are areas that you someone can't change later and frankly areas that RAM needs to address to stay relevent in 2025.

    I think you did a great job pointing out some of the Ram issues but I have the Firestones on my Ram (changing them Saturday) and they are not loud at all. They aren’t great tires but they aren’t loud. My buddy’s 2021 Denali tires are twice as loud and the Firestones. All the other points are spot on.

    Agree with you on the review- I have a 19 bighorn sport and just had all recalls completed. Truck runs great, tows well, looks good, I eat truck I’ve ever owned. At 19k I replaced the tires with bfg 295/65/20 transforce were terrible in Colorado winters. I’ve heard good and bad on all makes but I really couldn’t afford Ford or GM, payments would’ve been like a mortgage! The cp3 really works great- feels crisper and sounds a bit more diesel like

    I like the looks of the Ram, the 6.4 Hemi & the 6.7 Cummins. That said, for many of the same reasons you discussed in your video I could never seriously consider ram trucks. I did recently buy a Chevy very similar to Kong and so far I love it.

    My 24 Chevy 3500 LT has Michelin tires and they are kind of loud if you have the windows all the way down, however with them up I don't hear them. Had a Ram 1500, all the rubber trim fell off or started boweing .

    Really good assessment. I bought a 2500 Cummins brand new in August. It tows our 13k pound fifth wheel occasionally. Timbrens and a Pull Rite sliding hitch. It performs wonderfully and I coolant ask for more for what we paid (we got an exceptional deal). I think it’s the best value of the Big 3. I noted the quality issues you mentioned about Ford when I was looking. Pretty shocking. Chevy/GMC was a contender for me but I couldn’t find any that weren’t the lesser trims I wanted. Sub’d to your channel.

    Your welcome! I was the one in your other video that said transforce tires are a safety hazard. Scarry tires on ice! Terrible

    I agree with basically everything you said. I’m no Ram fan but I always say they are a good looking truck and if it came down to it would probably be my choice if I didn’t buy a Chevy/GMC.
    With that said the cab size is just a real letdown once you have had one of the other two trucks. Even in the front there’s just not as much room.
    Funny about your take on the tires from GM. The Trail Runners get tons of hate on the Facebook truck groups but I agree with you wholeheartedly. Mine have been fantastic. I’m a little over 33,000 miles and I haven’t measured them in awhile but at 24,000 miles they were at 9/32 which is only 3/32 wear if I remember correctly. And they are great in the snow. They are 3 peak snow rated. When my truck was nearly new we had a pretty good snow here in East Ky. There was a minimum of 8” in the road. Curvy two lane, like about every road in my part of the country (curvy and up and down) and I ran up on a wreck. I was honestly driving a little faster than I should have been. (30 mph or so) and I had to flat out panic stop. Stood on brakes and my truck never offered to slide. I was very impressed to say the least. So I agree about the Good Years (and how crappy the Firestones are).
    Anyways I still say you have a nice truck. I’m interested in your take on maintenance with the Cummins. From what I know about them they are a good amount more expensive than the competitors for routine maintenance.

    Sir, your channel is rad and helpful unlike most others, so thank you. I live in Alaska and im looking for a 3/4 ton gas. Ive watched your videos on the chevy and ford and saw you'd pick the 6.6 Chevy with Allison over the Godzilla. Is that still true and what do you think about the smaller engine option from ford on their 3/4 ton. Thank you for the continued assistance!

      @automotiveinquiries9673  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks, I appreciate that and you being here. To answer your question, bang for buck the chevy l8t gets you more truck trim for trim than the equivalent ford. I do miss kong. I loved that truck, and trying to be objective for the channel i had to sell it and go to the next. I do still stand behind the chevy gas being the best gas truck and eventhough its less powerful by the numbers than the zilla, it felt just as powerful in the real world use. It's more composed and gets more payload than the ford. I feel it's better quality. As for the 6.8 ford. The only drawbacks I see are, you can't get it in any trim other than xl. It drives great and feels plenty powerful. It's new this year and since it's a destroked zilla, the engine may have some growing pains like it's big brother. That being said, the ford trucks just don't feel as stable towing as the chevy.

    You don’t really lose as much payload due to the MegaCab as one would think. The GVWR increases to 12,300 compared to 11,800 for the crew cab, which is pretty close to the difference in curb wt

    From owning a 2021 Ram 2500 short bed pulling a 5th wheel camper. You need either a slider or a sidewinder pinbox because there isn't enough room between the trailer and the rear of the cab.

  • @EricAnderson-dc1um
    @EricAnderson-dc1um Před 8 měsíci +2

    Personally I'm not opposed to the shorter bed. I bought a Chevy 2500 and I do have parking issues occasionally. Having a shorter bed would be nice for some tighter parking situations.

    • @automotiveinquiries9673
      @automotiveinquiries9673  Před 8 měsíci

      Definitely, you can tell it's a shorter truck. Overall it's 12 inches total length shorter than the chevy and ford. It's definitely not bad.

  • @DM-tf6mk
    @DM-tf6mk Před 8 měsíci +3

    I have a 17' ram 1500, and it's been garaged almost since new and can't stand the window trim issue. I would also agree about bed length. I don't necessarily need an 8ft bed, but the extra few inches offered in Chevy and Ford really comes in handy.

  • @Back_door_bandit_98
    @Back_door_bandit_98 Před 8 měsíci

    I’m curious to hear your reviews on this truck because I really like the curb appeal of the ram but with the bed and cab being smaller than the competition it’s holding me back.

    • @automotiveinquiries9673
      @automotiveinquiries9673  Před 8 měsíci

      In all realities, the shorter is a slight bummer for sure, and I think it's a great looking truck. The cab is a bummer but if it's only 4 adults and a small kiddo in the crew, it's very nice, but you can feel it's not as big. I do enjoy the dmax and the powerstroke, but the cummins with exhaust brake does exceptional in towing. Almost big rig like engine braking. And so far the fuel econony is 19 city.....which is insane to me. More to come. Thanks for watching.

    Fantastic video. Really glad I found your channel. Successfully called out all of the things that annoy me about this "long in the tooth model". Powertrain is unbeatable but Ram needs to update this thing fast...I'm a little concerned the half ton refresh is taking so long and we haven't even heard or seen any leaks about HD refresh. And Stellantis has been the worst offender with price raises, on the oldest truck. Go figure, no wonder lots are packed. Anyways, thanks again! Sub'd 🫡

    FIRST! IF YOU TOW A 5TH WHEEL WITH THE SHORT BED MEGA CAB, GET A SLIDER HITCH. SUPERGLIDE IS ONE THAT COMES TO MIND.. HOW DO I KNOW THIS??? 1200 IN DAMAGE USING YHE ANDERSON. I BOUGHT the Ram for the Cummins. A real medium duty engine. RAM HAS no glow plugs. My ram has auto level.. The cab doesnt not need to be removed to get to the engine.. you have a hard on for Ram.. i have no clue why.

    The factory tires you can not buy because they are mostly cheap junk when you buy tires from a shop and Firestone HT are great for 60-70 grand miles .

    Who has the better truck right now? Ford, Chevy or Ram? Engine wise 2024.

    • @automotiveinquiries9673
      @automotiveinquiries9673  Před 4 měsíci +1

      As of right now, 2024 GM has the best gas and 10 speed allison combo. Although less powerfull by the numbers than the zilla, it's the best. After testing a 24 ram diesel 3500, a 6.4 hemi, the 22 zilla, the Chevy/GMC truck also had better control and better payload numbers than the others. If I was buying to own and didn't need to keep new content on my channel, I'd be in a L8T allison 2024 chevy gas, 2500 does just fine. It towed 18k bo problems and fuel economy 17.5 Hwy and 11 towing out of a big gasser
