      Hi mate thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Glad you enjoyed the video. Brean is a very popular holiday destination....there are many caravan parks in the area...and we see lots of holidaymakers bring their tackle and give the beach a go!!! Good spring and summer fishing as you can see on previous posts. Cheers Ian

    Hi Ian, great to see you both out on Brean and having some success! It’s nice to see a decent codling on the beach for a change. It’s been the same up in Northumberland, very few cod about, probably one of the worst seasons for a while now.
    Funnily enough, we’ve been getting the occasional school bass in December and January which is unusual up here. All the best to you and Chris and I hope to see you again on the ‘big beach’ in the future.

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  Před 3 lety

      Hi Mate yes the number of bass is surprising.....lots down in devon too i hear! Maybe a combination of warmer seas and protection of nursery areas?? We hardly ever catch bass in winter at Brean but have had 5 since the new year. Dreadful cod season though!! Stay safe Mark...tight lines...Ian

    Can I ask, You always seem to drive a fair way down the beach when you fish there, and in this video you're there through the hightide.
    Is this a safe beach for non 4x4 vehicles to drive along, and is it ok to stay parked on the beach through high tide too?
    Im hoping to get down there for a couple of tides in the not too distant future hopefully

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  Před 3 lety

      Ah so sorry you can’t fish at the moment ☹️ With regards to driving on the beach....access is usually allowed 9am to 4pm in winter (free) and 7pm summer (charged) However currently the beach is now closed to vehicles due to covid19 though I’m not sure why??? You can park at the top of the beach as long as the tides are less than 12 metres high and a normal car is fine just don’t venture onto the wet sand as I’ve seen many cars drowned!! When beach closed to vehicles we park opposite Brean Village Hall on the grass verge opposite it and walk to beach to right of the hall....only 3 minutes walk! Cheers Ian

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  Před 3 lety +1

      No we don’t have records but it has been abysmal for the cod for sure! When you think some years we have each had over 100 cod from Brean alone and usually at least 30 or so it is certainly a barren period! Global warming maybe???

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  Před 3 lety

      Hi again yes the blow lug relatively easy to dig at Brean and is undoubtedly the best bait for the beach....we generally arrive 4 hours before high, dig for an hour then fish the last 3 hours of the flood. There is no black lug there at all. If the fish are in it can be very good....even the thornback and conger take pure lug!!! Cheers Ian

    Cracking fish. What sort of depth are you casting into ?

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Ian thanks for watching! Well a 70 yard cast will only put you in probably 3 feet of water but the tide comes in so quickly that within a short while your bait will be a further 70 yards out and in 6 feet of depth. Sometimes the bass and flounder are really close in 2 feet of water though the cod and thornback seem to like more depth. Cheers Ian

      Hi Alan thanks for watching again! Fishing is currently allowed as long as you fish locally (this is accepted as 5miles ish from home) with one other person and social distancing is practiced. This is because the Angling Trust has fishing classed as exercise during lockdown for which we should be very grateful!! Hope that helps cheers Ian

    Because of over fishing by greedy factory ships which stay out at sea for weeks at a time, it has more than halved our fish stocks. Smaller fish caught up in the nets die and are kicked over the side. The government have to step in to regulate how much fish can be caught during the year to allow fish stocks to replenish themselves.

Ive caught 70 lb carp in France and that 30lb tope went absolutely ballistic. Had very small codling like whiteing size. But the bass at selsey are decent fish. Tge schooly bass are everywhere and the big bass just seem to guard them. i can not believe how you guys fish and how you ever catch anything. ok, i know there is a big difference between the bristol channel and cornwall but the way you guys are fishing is bonkers. 1st, essential is a pyramid weight which will always keep your line tight when walking back with it. 2nd, when beach fishing you should always hold your rod, do not place it on a rod rest hoping you will see a bite, hold the rod and see and feel the bite. bass will steal your bait in seconds and an instant strike will catch a lot more fish even cod. watch some of the small boat fishing videos and you will see that an instant strike will catch all sizes of cod. for ten years i fished the same beach whenever possible (the method taught to me by old timers that had fished there all of their life) and i always had bass in the freezer. watching your video, was quite painfull, are the rods made out of steel? next to no bite detection and no action whatsoever when landing a fish, completely boring. hold the rod and you also know when crabs and small fish are stealing your bait. if, down here, you must fish for cod then just 12 minutes away is the tamar bridge and if chat up the boat owners you will find someone that will let you fish from their moored boat and there are plenty of cod in the tamar. oh by the way on our beaches a 2lb bass feels like a 5lb one it is such a great fight.

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  Před 3 lety

      Hi Ivor nice to hear from you. The tidal run in the BC is really fierce you just would not get away with a light bass rod in a big tide . We fish light when we can but you need heavier gear up here believe me! We fish woolacombe and other surf beaches with spinning rods and light weights because there you can! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Keep catching down in Cornwall cheers Ian
