30 mins ,must be xmas ,lol ,great vid ,i was standing in your foot steps last week on a 7 oclock high tide rough wind ,.1 codling ,but it was good to be out ,also had my first trip to chesil a few days before ,1 dog fish ,but what a lovely place to fish , had a great sun set as well .ATB

Hi mate yes it’s never clear at all!! We have the Severn Wye and Avon rivers at the head of the Bristol Channel, relatively shallow water and of course massive tidal ranges and it’s all sand/mud on the bottom. All combined means constant colour. It means no sight feeders like mackerel Bream plaice. However it fishes really well in the daytime so unlike say Chesil you can be confident of catching at all hours! However I am looking forward to next weeks lockdown easing to fish somewhere else! Hi Mark yes the water always that colour.....a big smelly bait is a definite advantage...8 blow lug is our standard bait and i feel many anglers fail by not cramming enough bait on. Thanks for watching cheers Ian
bass are always in close, the come in close because they enjoy feeding in surf also best chance for the worm. Bass will feed in 2ft of water, i would been casting short every cast. Love the vids

Hi Harry lovely to hear from you! Crikey I remember your dad we used to fish Butcombe shore together with Chris all the time it must be at least 25 years ago!!! Tell him we were on that shore last Friday had 23 trout between us!!! The mud at Brean is only dangerous a long way out ....start fishing about 2.75 hours before high and there is no problem at all! Hi mate I’m sure you will enjoy Chesil! I prefer fishing at Abbotsbury as it gives deep water and a good mix of species. However in spring Cogden is very good for plaice . The Weymouth end is also deep water but fishes better as the year progresses.
Hi thanks for watching! Yes extremely shallow!! At 100 yards probably only 4 feet deep but there are loads of shrimp in there....most fish we keep have bellies stuffed with them!! A moderate onshore wind gets the fish in!!! Cheers Ian

Due to the tide racing in at speed you can see we set up some way back from the waters edge so bite detection is not always easy so we are looking for usually slack line or a change in angle of the line along the beach . Putting the rods lower means less neck ache and doesn’t seem to hamper bite detection.... so it’s really personal preference to be honest plus when it’s very windy the wind has less effect on the line not in the water and keeps you in better contact with your weight. Many other anglers on Brean fish with rods high up . Cheers Ian

Hi Chris it’s an easy beach to fish. Fish the last 3 hours before high tide. Lug the best bait by far. Usually fish two rods one at distance. Second rod closer with smaller baits. It’s not fishing too well at the moment only a few codling but plenty of ray and conger. Park opposite the Brean village hall then it’s a short walk. Good luck cheers ian

Hi Matt Brean is relatively easy to fish as long as the wind is not too strong so I suggest you fish before Friday this week! It’s a worm beach so a large lug bait is best!!! Fish 3 hours before high and maybe a little bit down. Use pulley pennel or flapper rigs ….you can leave big baits out for an hour. Very little crab trouble and if you hook a small whiting leave it on as live bait as we have had many big cod and bass this way!!!! Good luck thanks for watching cheers Ian

Hi Paul yes you can park on the beach the gates are open from about 9am to 6pm I think but not certain of exact times...there is a charge. You pay at the entrance. It’s safe to park as long as the tide is under 12m in height on the Weston Super Mare tables. Park against the dunes. Realistically you can only fish the last 3 hours of the flood and maybe an hour of the ebb. Use lug as bait either dig it or buy it....Thyers in Highbridge sell it speak to Russ. Currently it’s poor as the east wind is a killer but if it switches then great chances of a few bass. Cheers Ian

Hi good height tide not sure if you fishing morning or evening??? We use pulley pennel rigs I would fish size 2 hooks ....smaller hooks fine this time of year. As it’s a relatively big tide you need to walk back and let out line as you retreat up the beach....within 45 minutes you will have 250 yards of line out which is fine as long as you have put on a lot of lug!!! You can leave a big bait out an hour easy as no crabs at all. You can fish another rod shorter and cast more frequently with a smaller bait on it. Cheers Ian
Hi Michael much better chance of a fish using lug as bait or rag even. Have caught bass here on squid but only a few....if you are prepared to fish for days for the odd big fish then squid ok but for a quick session worm bait gives you a much better chance!!!! Cheers Ian

Hi Gary we use simple pulley pennel rigs which we clip down....you could easily use flapper rigs as you don’t need to cast far. I did a CZcams video on pulley pennel making a couple of years ago. Cheers Ian

When you fish that far from the actual sea do you get problems with walkers crossing the beach and into or through your lines ?

Hi Paul yes you can park on the beach the gates are open from about 9am to 6pm I think but not certain of exact times...there is a charge. You pay at the entrance. It’s safe to park as long as the tide is under 12m in height on the Weston Super Mare tables. Park against the dunes. Realistically you can only fish the last 3 hours of the flood and maybe an hour of the ebb. Use lug as bait either dig it or buy it....Thyers in Highbridge sell it speak to Russ. Currently it’s poor as the east wind is a killer but if it switches then great chances of a few bass. Cheers Ian

Hi good height tide not sure if you fishing morning or evening??? We use pulley pennel rigs I would fish size 2 hooks ....smaller hooks fine this time of year. As it’s a relatively big tide you need to walk back and let out line as you retreat up the beach....within 45 minutes you will have 250 yards of line out which is fine as long as you have put on a lot of lug!!! You can leave a big bait out an hour easy as no crabs at all. You can fish another rod shorter and cast more frequently with a smaller bait on it. Cheers Ian

Hi Michael much better chance of a fish using lug as bait or rag even. Have caught bass here on squid but only a few....if you are prepared to fish for days for the odd big fish then squid ok but for a quick session worm bait gives you a much better chance!!!! Cheers Ian

iv been on that beach, hard to beleave such shallow water and there are fish in inces of water
Hi yes its very shallow but the surf definitely stirs up the shrimps etc and being coloured water too the fish can be very close....thankfully!! Thanks for watching cheers Ian

What rigs were you using please
Hi Gary we use simple pulley pennel rigs which we clip down....you could easily use flapper rigs as you don’t need to cast far. I did a CZcams video on pulley pennel making a couple of years ago. Cheers Ian

Just curious, I fished on the beach up near the national Trust car park, baits came out untouched every time lol, is there a better spot on the beach to fish from?
