- Shore fishing at Burnham on sea in the Bristol Channel for the first time with angling guide and friend Jansen Teakle. We discuss fishing tactics, the local area and also the concept of angling guides in the UK. In my opinion a great idea for those starting out fishing or new to an area.

Sensible film. Jansen Teakle, one of the most intelligent, experienced anglers fishing the Channel.
He’s top notch isn’t he. 😊👍🏻
I told you before about me caching a terrapin...it's common in my loch apparently. Gonna take a walk down stream because I'm told the salmon are running and it's free because it's a tidal river. I just want to look because I've never been before...yes I should take my gear blah blah 🤣
He knows what he's doing.
@@robbieallan6522 what? I know he knows. I am just talking about a msg interaction when I couldn't believe I caught a terrapin
@@robbieallan6522 is someone blocked? I see 4 replies but only 4msgs
I started replying to the comments here but there are rather a few!
Thanks to everyone for the feedback, it was a really enjoyable morning with great company and I think it was a bit of an eye open for John at times.
Huge thanks to anyone who hopped over to my channel off the back of this one and hit the sub button.
And of course, thanks to John for the opportunity to collaborate, I’m sure we can devise a follow up when time allows.
Tight lines all! Jansen (Yansen).
Eyes opened as to how lucky I am to have such great water clarity and nice clean beaches to fish from 🤣🤣
I was sure any minute you were going to call John Yohn!? 😆…Great video thank you. Looking forward to sharing in more of your adventures 👍🏻🎣
Was a great video as I’m only five minutes up the road from burnham would defiantly be nice to see you both do another video in this area in the future!
Thanks John & Jansen, as you said every day is a school day👍
Sure is mate.
There is nothing more enjoyable to me than watching or even listening to someone who knows what they're talking about and is passionate about sharing that knowledge with others. another wonderful video
Thank you. 😊👍🏻🎣
WARNING there are areas around the Bristol Channel where the tide can come in behind you and with the speed of the tide it can cut you off very quickly!
Agreed
@@TheFishLocker I fished Goldcliff and Redwick many years ago with a friend.
At Goldcliff there are prehistoric footprints in the mud that;s kinda cool but I haven't ever seen the depressions left by the flounder I thought that was really cool !
@@TheFishLockerBe careful in that channel..I'm really happy you don't wear waders though...
@@MrMarko4 it's only obvious if you know about it!
This channel is bloody fantastic. That's all I gotta say
Thank you very much. We are simply sharing what we know and love doing. 😊👍🏻
Fished a lot with Jansen over the last few years. Learnt loads. Benefits of local knowledge in somewhere as sketchy as the BC makes a huge difference! His knowledge is incredible! Great sesh guys🎣
He sure knows his stuff doesn’t he.
The collab I have been waiting for. Great video guys.
Thank you. I’m sure there’s potential for a part 2!
Next time we take Darsizzle out on the mud!! 👍🏻
2 top notch anglers together both full of benificial knowledge great video guys 😎
I hope there's a part 2, great video and Jensen knows his stuff
We are planning another trip at some point 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker You both go together like batter n fish. Perfect
Love it! Thanks John! Cheers 🍻 to this shore fishing!
My pleasure Evan. 👍🏻🎣
I live down the North coast (Torridge Estuary). The tide around here, being a few miles down the coast from the Bristol channel is the 2nd fastest incoming tide in the country, that is why there is a lifeboat station here, and we see visitors, bait diggers, and people fishing getting caught on the sand flats every year who need to be rescued. It comes in faster than you can run, especially in waders or just wellies. Great care is needed when fishing this estuary, and there is only a couple of hours window running down to near low tide and slack water. When the tide here turns no usual rig/weight will hold bottom so end of session. The Bristol channel is pretty much the same and will come around you and cut you off before any unaware fisherman can react. Knowledge and care are well needed in these parts. Nice thorny John and Jansen certainly knows his stuff. All the best to both of you.
Thanks mate. 👍🏻🎣
An excellent and educational video... smashing!
Thank you Roger.
Hello, stay safe, and warm hug for all of ur family
Thank you.
I do enjoy watching you thanks
My pleasure Arthur. 👍🏻🎣
Another video with a wealth of info crammed in... Thanks john, and Jansen. 👍
Our pleasure Chris.
I have learnt a lot not only from your channel John but those you have had on it and it has helped improve my fishing sessions thanks
That is wonderful to hear Debra. 😊👍🏻
What a great educational video showing the wisdom of tapping into local knowledge when fishing in a new area. Had to have a bit of a chuckle when you got stuck in the mud, it certainly added an entertaining segment. Thanks again for another great video John. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
Well I’m glad you found it funny mate.
The squads stomping ground! Nice to see you up these ways! Glad you had a blast. And yea, its not the south coast but its unique and we love it these ways 👍👍
It is definitely unique 🤣
Very interesting,Janson really knows his stuff.
Thanks John.
He definitely does. 👍🏻😊
Cant praise this channel enough....again as a novice angler jansen and yourself John explain everything perfectly much appreciated all the best marra 😀 👍
It is our pleasure bud. 👍🏻
Fantastic video. Absolutely packed with quality information and advice. Great stuff.
I hope it helps folks out.
Absolutely no two ways about it buddy. Awesome to see such an accomplished fisherman as yourself encouraging people to be humble and always be open to others advice and experience, I've always advised people to learn from others than make all the mistakes yourself!!
Great video👍. Very informative from you both.👏👏
Shows how much that local knowledge is very important. Especially regarding safety.
Great watch. Thank you both, and look forward to future collaborations.
Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Safety is paramount. Really glad I had Jansen there with me.
Need more of these!!
We shall do what we can. 😊👍🏻
One of the best vlogs you have done for a long time,
Thank you.
Than you!
It is my pleasure. 😊
Thank you so much john.i live 10 mins from where you are fishing.lots ov rays, conger, bass, flatties and the odd cod.obviously not as beautiful as cornwall(my homeland)but it will do for me.great video mate🙂
Despite the mud I had a really enjoyable time with Jansen. 👍🏻🎣
Love the info about the mullet scrapes and flounder marks. Perfect outline of the flounder amazing
I thought it was interesting too. 😊👍🏻🐟
Thank you again for all you do and show us! Subbed to Jansen's channel.
Awesome.
Thank you for the sub! Glad you enjoyed this one, when our schedules allow I’m sure there will be more🎣
Smashing upload again John thank you, regards to Hannah, James & the shy one, greetings from Cyprus. 👍👍👍👍🐟🐟
Thank you and have a lovely day. 😊👍🏻
Awesome video again John & Jansen i do the same as Jansen with the top hook on the penel rig have done 4 ages and only use circle hooks. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick
Good man. 👍🏻
Thousands of miles apart, but methods are often similar! Tight lines Nick.
Cheers! thanks for the free lessons!
Our pleasure 😊
Thanks for the great video!

Wow John an early mid week treat, thankyou very much I loved it, props to yer mate Janson for keepin you safe and I’m glad you never took yer first mate on this one he would have bin up to his armpits!
Aye Jansen just about managed to keep me right. 😉
beautiful footage as always.. very very nice work
Thanks mate.
Love it 😀😀welcome to the Bristol Channel mr fish locker
Thanks Mark. 😊👍🏻
I didn’t know they were flounder marks in the sand, another good snippet of info. Jansen is an excellent communicator
Glad you enjoyed the extra info. 😊👍🏻
If you are very lucky on some rocky out crops you may see a dinosaur footprint
Sometimes I feel so old that those footprints could be mine 🦖
I really enjoy your videos very interesting and it never hurts to learn something new
Absolutely Dawn, every day is a school day. 😊👍🏻
You actually made sense. Good morning by the way.
Thank you James.
Very informative - Janson is very knowledgeable
He sure is!!
Another great watch!
Thank you. Hopefully this video gives folks a bit a safety insight for the muddy estuaries.
Hi john you ok pal, another cracking vid cheers very intresting. Ive been to subbed to jansen for a while now. Great for beginners as i was a couple of years back so would like to say thanks john 4 the tips ive picked up along from yourself and other tubers. Like you said john every day a school day . All the best from GRIMSBY.
Every day is definitely a school day mate. 😊👍🏻
Properly massive thanks on this one John.
Me and my mate have tried several times to fish the Humber. I'm from Cleethorpes originally and as a kid I've tried to fish it and failed. Just watching you and Jansen has made me realise some of the mistakes we've made and improvements we can do to our tackle and techniques.
Thank you very much to you both.
"Every day is a lesson" indeed.
Tight lines bud.
👍
Good man keep at it.
I hope you manage to get amongst the fish. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker cheers pal

Remember years ago me and my mate fished from withernsea all the way up to brid, nothing not a sniff,on the way home we stopped at pauul near hull to fish the humber had loads of codling haha
brilliant video and just shows there is always something to learn. I live on a peninsula in Suffolk so our tides can be really dangerous and just like this
Every day is a school day for sure!!
Brilliant John, firstly to see you out on shore. But a session with Jansen T, what a treat! lots of interesting bits I picked up on this video.i fish quite flat beaches similar to this, have to stay pretty mobile when it’s on flood ! 🤣appreciate your efforts mate ,👍🏼👍🏼
Yes mate. Organised and mobile. 👍🏻
You can’t beat local knowledge when fishing a new mark as you said John. I’ve fished the Mersey from childhood and I still keep learning new things as the river is changing with new construction and old structures cause a change in the river bed, tight lines
Local knowledge really can be a game changer mate can’t it 👍🏻🎣
I agree John its a very interesting video M8 thank you Tel G
I had a great day. 😊
He seems to be a lovley lad. Love the voice too ^^. Yes, talking to people that fish an area is key for learning about how to go about the buisness. Good stuff
Local knowledge can be a game changer. 👍🏻
Another great video. All the lesson's learnt here are good for fishing east coast of Romney Marsh (lydd-on-sea and dungeness) same mud fun!!
Thanks mate. 👍🏻
Great video👍
Thank you Sir.
Buen video como siempre y el amigo también.
Thank you.
Great to keep safety a priority and another great fishing video. Got error sorted John wasn't signed in . Thanks for technical help.
Greg.
I suspected that was what was the issue 👍🏻😉
Thanks so much for sharing, I really enjoyed watching, it was very interesting and Mr Teakle is obviously a very knowledgeable guide from watching. I hope you can do another video together at the same venue soon!
Big Thanks again mate :)
We will see what we can do.
Always think safety first.
Correct.
Hi John many thanks for posting your videos, you always point out about safety which is great, around the sea or water you can never be too careful, and through out all of your videos you always put safety first and i commend you for this, people like yourself give the viewers like my self give us great entertainment ,knowledge and put safety as a top priority , its a shame dont you think that other people making videos dont follow in your footsteps?
I cannot comment or direct what other people do, I simply do what I think is right. The viewers can choose who they feel does things the better way.
Welcome to the BC John. Gurt loads of mud everywhere. Stay safe and tight lines. Mike.
Haha. Sure was plenty of that.
Interesting stuff ✌️🏴
Glad you think so.
@@TheFishLocker no shorelines like that around where I live, mostly rocky reefs with lots of weed so interesting to hear about fishing differences (even if the fishing wasn’t spectacular lol)
Whoop whoop 2nd Sunday lol. Great video as usual fella. Bz to you.
Cheers mIchael. 😊👍🏻
Nice to see you in my area john . Your right about no crabs the old wreck is the only shelter they really have there . Im glad you enjoyed it and had that nice thornback , the next time your there again i would suggest having a look around the sand dunes, they are a pristine nature reserve with some grass areas that are beautiful rabbit Warrens . In the shallow scrapes left by rabbits you can find the occasional toad then there is the pretty sight of sea buckthorn everywhere and as far as i remember there used to be a lots of burnett moths . I was lucky enough many years ago to walk upon a large grass snake , it was raised up and hissing as i probably startled it . Anyway sorry to digress ! Great video again as i have come expect since subscribing recently. Thanks for sharing it with us.
It did look like a fine spot. 😊👍🏻
YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER JIM!
START A CLUB!
Haha.
Excellent Video, can't wait to get back to the UK and start fishing there again
Thank you mIchael. 👍🏻🎣
@@TheFishLocker You are definitely welcome John, i'm leaving Kyiv next week first stop back home will be the tackle shop
Thank you for your videos your an inspiration
A very different video John, with some great safety points. Total agree with you, a good guide is worth every penny. He can put you on the fish which might have cost you a lot of wasted time, as well as pointing out safety issue’s.
Safety issues is a massive one!! 👍🏻
That’s really cool. I caught 3 bass on prawn at the pier 😀
Well done. 👍🏻
Fisherman goes to Bristol for the first time, gets stuck in the mud. He must be from Cornwall! Joking. Great video again sir. Love it!
🤣
Absolutely gutted!!! Am only down the road in Taunton would have loved to have gone down to meet you legend 🐟 🎣 🐐👍🏻
Haha. Maybe next time bud.
Nice to see you down my neck of the woods. I go to Burnham for work everyday. I live in Weston super Mare. Happy fishing.
Thanks mate. 👍🏻🎣
It's good to see a day's fishing which looked more like mine, although I never had a guide. The opportunity to 'pick his brain' must of made the day on it's own. Still, nice ray.
Thank you.
The Bristol Channel is my back yard, we're used to the mud lol. Love Jansens channel too he knows his stuff. 😉
He definitely does. 👍🏻🎣
Thank you Rob, glad you enjoy my little channel too. Keep catching🙂
Jansen has proper knowledge of the BC. I've been watching his vids for a while and the guy really knows his stuff. The BC is not to be messed with, but when you get it right there is some great fish to be had.
He definitely knows his stuff 👍🏻
Brilliant video as always can't wait that you doing guiding in Cornwall
I won’t be mate. I don’t have the time.
@@TheFishLocker shame you would make a awesome one
Welcome to our part of the coast, it's a bit different from Cornwall but still some good fishing.
Thank you.
Fancy a guy from Cornwall turning up at a river full of flounders without a bucket of peelers!
Peelers are like hens teeth this year mate. 🤷🏻♂️
Been looking forward to this one since I saw the FB post about it.
I hope you enjoyed it. 👍🏻😊
Nice to see you fishing Burnham that were I learned how to fish from a small boy to an adult great fishing do miss it . Moved to torbay fishing not as good as the good old days
Nothing is.
Any local information from the people is always worth taking in. Interesting with the bait wrapping the only fishing I have done was on floats and some fly as a kid with my uncle. The low spots are where all the good stuff goes even the gold. Looked like it was a hard days fishing but the ray was a ray of sunshine for you.
Cheers mate.
It was a surprisingly difficult days fishing considering the location. But that’s fishing for you. 😊🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker Oh yes. It was all very interesting with the rigs though. It was also real not just the the great days real fishing and great information all the same.
@@SouthpawDavey - One thing I have promised is that my videos will always be honest.
That was different, very enjoyable watch, love the flounder scrapes, some of those would have been really good fish, love those thornbacks, get alot of those on my coast aswell, really good fun to catch, looking forward to the next vid
Some of them were great sized fish weren’t they!!
@@TheFishLocker certainly were, would have been string pullers i reckon
awesome collab Jansen is a great angler and an enjoyable persona same as yourself mate .keep them coming =)
He is a good mate. Really good angler. 👍🏻
great little spot that nice intro to the bristol channel i normally fish to the right can be very dangerous
Yes mate I could see that when I got there!!
It's great to see the two of you together in the same video - Now you know why Jansen wears chesties ;-)
I heard it was to protect his sensitive nipples? 🤔
Lol .. Our ocean in Savannah, Georgia USA looks like chocolate milk too...but Panama City Florida is bright blue green so is the Gulf of Mexico ... Crazy how muddy some places are and how clear some are ! Love your show !
Amazing isn’t it!!
Nice video mate 👍
Thanks Lee.
Top quality relaxation 👆
Thank you 😊
You need a "mud jacket!" Thanks for another interesting video with a local expert! ATB
Haha
I'll be baiting up here in florida like that on my next trip to skyway pier in tampa,...great show..johnson was worth watching and learning from..thanks..
Please let me know how you get on. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker i did real good last time on the bait stealers...grunts and such..
You must have been within 15 mins drive of me mate, wicked... ive never seen anyone actually tread out on those mud flats... They look like 100% death to me to be honest! Cant believe you came up to Bristol, i spent all summer trying to get away down to Cornwall! Top man.
They are not for the faint hearted. 👍🏻
Great video Ohn, bet you wished you'd taken your wetsuit for a dive !!!???!!
I remember going to Brean as a kid , I enjoyed counting the vast amounts of cars which had got stuck in the mud over the years !
Thanks Ohn 😁👍🏴
Haha. There’s folks do it all the time isn’t there.
I've been in quick sand before when I was a kid, scariest feeling EVER!!!!
Scary stuff
Thank yet again Up here Nith Estuary dangerous in places Muddy and very Fast Tide
How does it fish?
Great discussion between experts....30 lb conger from there..now I would be exploring that experimenting!..keep reading the sands.....the sea.. ever keeps us on our toes..I'd leave the tentacles on ..in certain situations...
I hope the discussions about why our tactics are different for different areas was helpful.
I bet that you're glad that there's no mud in Cornwall. Very wise advice re the guide, you demonstrated how dangerous soft mud can be and how quickly the tide can come in. Here in the wash it can come in behind you so you have to be partially careful. Pity that the fishing was so slow but it was nice to see somewhere different.
Hopefully there’s some helpful info in here for folks.
Will you post another from this sequence? We enjoyed the 30 minute training class. Let's see your results! Fascinating!
When we have the time. 👍🏻
Many years ago my dad got stuck in the mud trying to dig out some worms for bait. Cut a long story short there's still a pair of waders in the Truro River somewhere 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like Jansen, followed him for a while, good collaboration mate
Thanks bud. 👍🏻
Great info John on using local knowledge is the key I may pop to Falmouth for some local knowledge and of course some gps numbers 😀
🤣 Yeah good luck.
@@TheFishLocker now had a good feeling that would be the answer loool 😆 😀
welcome to burnham on the mud, never fished from there but on the thornback you caught as you looked out across bridgey bay and past the power station i have but on the boat
It has a lot of potential. Surprised more fish didn’t come out tbh
I rarely fish from shore in Galveston unless there was a recent storm...
There's so much vegetation that is wrecks fishing .
But , a jetty works well if you can get a spot...
Port Arthur has a sand beach & its very shallow to the shelf.
But chunk it out 100 met & the fishing is great.
The weed can often ruin fishing here too!!
Good session guy's
Thank you. 👍🏻
grats.. nice catch on the first one.
Thanks.
@@TheFishLocker welcome.. i use to fish years ago off worthing pier a bit, some areas had flattie beds to access easy to undercasting.
From my expirens flat fish love a flood tide because the heat of the ground. A early evening hightide say about 5 or 6pm after the sun has been beating down on the sand all day will always fish better then a morning tide when the ground is not so hot.
Interesting theory. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker give it a try, It's works well for me off a sandy beach's known to be good areas for flat fish, or exposed low tide sand banks out on the boat. Or just snorkeling will tend to see a lot more. Good luck, really enjoy watching your videos keep up the good work 🙏❤🙏
Woooow that tide!!! I know they have good 12m tides in Western Australia, but here in Sydney high tide is probably 1m higher than low tide. That tide is amazing!
That’s crazy!!!
