If you use a wheel type pipe cutter to cut CF tubes all the way through, you risk delaminating the inner layers of CF. Some products will be fine, but others will make you regret your decision to use a tubing cutter all the way through. Follow this presenters advice, and make the final cut with a fine tooth saw.
Quick question to an older video: my frame specifies 65mm minimum insertion. The seatpost manufacturer claims 10 cm. Is the seatpost manufacturer in any way trying to account for all the different frames it could be paired with... or not? Should I honour both, or just the 65 mm? P.s. I am semi-prepared to buy a new seatpost for the 35mm saving, but also don't fancy causing msyelf an injury :)
I think your camera was a bit hungover, too 🤣🤣 Thanks for posting the vid. I never thought of using a pipe cutter to score before cutting.
Nice job. I will def do this.
That Fuji X100 looks great as well ;-)
Very informative. Followed your advice, but taped my post into a mitre box to assure perfect 90° cut.
Would love a sticker, ..thanks
Good stuff! Sorry but ran out a while ago...!
Where did you buy the saddle and the seatpost ? Tell me pleasw
I used a miter saw with 80 teeth blade to cut the carbon seat post. Clean and quick. :D
Brave man!
GODDAMMIT Heartattack an 3:50. Voice like 1% and music 110%
LOL, yeah gotta watch those sound levels, Don't want anyone dying on me....
Thanks for the video! Have you tried using the pipe cutter to cut completely through the carbon post?
You can do, but I find it better to cut the last part with a fine hacksaw

Any tips for making a score line on a seat post that isn’t a cylinder? Need to cut my TT seat post down.
Hmmm, much trickier to do accurately. I would just put some tape round it and use that as a guide.

Unfortunately I think you would need to respect what the seatpost says, although there is probably a fair bit of safety margin built into that.
So cutting 2 inches n a querter should not put bike at risk?
It depends how tall you are and how much post you have out of the frame. Generally you need at least 65mm of post in the frame.
Nice Vid, to bad I can't cut my Mcfk post.
any chance you can send a sticker to California?
Sure, email me your address at info@cyclespeedtours.com, and please Subscribe!
-13 grams of carbon + 3 grams of sticker 😋
LOL, I don't think the sticker is more than 1g!!
Sticker please. Great vid.
any issues with the carbon seatpost so far? im planning to do this but im concerned it might affect the structural integrity of the seatpost
none at all, I cut all my seatposts like this. As long as the minimum recommended is still inserted inside the frame, it's fine.
@@CyclespeedTours Thank you for the reply more power to your channel!!
On seat post ??
Definitive guide, my butt!! A lot, or even a majority of modern seatposts are not round like that at all!
Maybe check the date? At that time, not so many aero posts. Besides it covers round tubes generally, including steerers.
nice vid. Still sending out those stickers?
No, I ran out, sorry!
Would love to have a sticker thanks
Sorry all gone now!
I’d like a sticker. 🚴 speed 😎
