I watch just about all of your videos, and I just wanted to let you know you're doing an exceptional job. Keep up the good work!
Also, damn you're not kidding about the "flash rust" inside the diff! I think I can actually see it rusting on camera!

Do you have a link of the sealant you apply on the back cover when installing it back on the differential?

When i worked for a mb specialist i had my first time replacing the driveshaft end diff seal. The trick was to mark the nut and housing and then count the turns untill nut is off. Afterwards just install the same way. Im sure its not the most secure way and is done only if you wont take of the rear plate to be able mark the gears with a paste and test ? Im always nervouse to go on a test drive after main seal job, praying to not hear any "houling". God i hate that job :D
Hope your first drive would be absolutly perfect.

Heigo Heeringas i hope so too - i have done this before on my 6.9 and was reasonably successful. I wouldn’t be surprised if this diff is noisy in any case with 300+ k km on it

An explanation and a job well done. Thank you. Can I get the parts number that you changed or from any site that I can buy from? I have mercedes w124 E500 1992 model, I have sound in my car differential when I drive speed after 80 km !?🙏

بوعبدالله المزروعي you should join the 500e board forum theres lots 500e owners there who may be able to help

بوعبدالله المزروعي all the differential versions use various different seals so you would need to use the parts catalog with your vin to know what to order. The 500e board people will probably know more information. Unfortunately i don’t know much about 500’s

Happy New Year. 2 1/2 hours and we will be in the New Year in Atlanta.
I plan to do my 1995 E320 rear suspension soon . Do you have a list with part numbers. I want to use this as my guide.
    Thank you

I found a list you compiled in 2014 for the rear suspension, sub frame. All I need is the parts for the differential; the seal numbers.
      How's "Red"?
      Happy New Year.

@@sean9347 For my Australia version 124.031 3.27:1 ABS differential here are the part numbers: pinion nut: 123 353 00 72, pinion seal: 022 997 99 47, side bearing cap O-rings: 003 997 25 48, side flange seal ring: 020 997 25 47. NOTE if you have something fancy like ASR or ASD I strongly advise looking up the part numbers particular to your car, the side flange seal rings are different depending on which differential version it is. plus there is an extra seal for ASD. Theres complete seal kits for ASD and ASR too.

@@sean9347 I notice the complete kits include the pinion crush sleeve and the tapered roller bearings - these kits should be fitted by a differential speciliast, playing with that pinion adjustment is not for the DIY'er in my opinion unless you know what you're doing - I sure as hell dont so I just leave it alone and tighten the new nut enough to not meddle with its adjustment, others unpick the crimping on the original nut and tighten it back exactly as it was after changing the seal, this is probably the safest method for the DIYer. Hopefully my method will be ok but I wont know till I drive the car.

What about the orings on the side with the output shafts

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  Před 4 lety +1

Honestly? I did forget about them. But hopefully they should be ok. The only wetness on this diff was around the front pinion seal. If i need to change them later on its ok, it will be an excuse to revisit the situation. I didn’t even realise they existed till you mentioned them 👍
