      Straight to the point? This should take 5 minutes at most.
      1. How to encrypt.
      2. How to decrypt/open both on your device and on another device.
      3. How to send/email the file and open it elsewhere.
      This covers virtually every scenarios a person would encounter. There is no reason this video needs to be 14 minutes.

    If someone uses my user (maybe my system is hacked or I left it open) to access the file they'll be able to see it. Doesn't that break the purpose of encryption? How can I prevent this?

    • @jace3132
      @jace3132 Před rokem

      That's why you re-lock everything once you're done. What is the purpose of encrypting something if you're going to leave it open 24/7 on your main account? I think this was mostly meant for things you only access when you are intentional about it.

    • @someguy5035
      @someguy5035 Před rokem +2

      Your question is extremely valid. This process is extremely convoluted. People just want to password protect files and email files so big data doesn't have access to them.

    I dont like the fact that its stored to your profile on your PC. anyone who might know your login can then access your encrypted files. It would make more sense that ONLY when your THUMBDRIVE IS CONNECTED you ONLY have access then.

    One big caveat. If you encrypt folders in this way and try to open them up on _another computer_, you cannot get in even if you use the correct key. So, if your computer fails and will no longer start, those files and folders are gone for good. I used this method on some folders, took the drive with me out of the country on vacation thinking I'd access it on an external drive enclosure, and was shocked to find that I was locked out. Now I use a 3rd party app where all I need is the key and the 3rd party software. The Windows approach is dancing with the devil.

      You can if you export the encryptioin key and then import it on another machine you're reading from. It's not using passwords. It's using key/cert. So you need the key. The keys are in the certificate managaer and can be exported and imported.

      If you send the key as well, you might as well not encrypt it at all. Anyone who gets the email will also have access to the key.

    Don't care about 90% of this. Just show me how to use it. I only need a few pieces of info.
    1. How to encrypt.
    2. How to decrypt/open both on your device and on another device
    3. How to send/email the file and open it elsewhere.
    Let's face it, pretty much everyone here wants to password protect a file to keep it private and they want to be able to email it without giving big data access to the info.
    This covers virtually every scenarios a person would encounter. There is no reason this video needs to be 14 minutes.
