UNCUT: shock at seeing first photo of Auwo!

- This is the uncut version of our reaction to the photo that confirmed the existence of the Black-naped Pheasant-pigeon- known locally as Auwo- a species with no scientific documentation since the 1800s. There were no previous photos of this species, but the image on the tiny trail camera LCD screen unmistakably matched illustrations of this elusive species.
Doka and I were in disbelief that our mission finally succeeded on the last day of our expedition. This was only possible thanks to our local partners, who have immense natural history knowledge of the birds in their forest, and guided us to the area where we set the camera.
That island is native to birds.. So the fact he didn’t even know himself what bird that is just confirmed himself he knew it was the real deal !
This bird is seened and photographed after 140 years .
This is very important to take care of our nature 🌿🍃birds and all animals too.

They found a Auwo. It’s a black-naped Pheasant pigeon. It hasn’t been seen for over 140 years. Was found in Papua New Guinea in 2022. “Not a Owl”
