"Romania derives from the Latin romanus, meaning 'citizen of Rome'. The first known use of the appellation was attested to in the 16th century by Italian humanists travelling in Transylvania, Moldavia, and Wallachia. The oldest known surviving document written in Romanian, a 1521 letter known as the 'Letter of Neacșu from Câmpulung', is notable for including the first documented occurrence of the country's name: Wallachia is mentioned as Țeara Rumânească (old spelling for 'The Romanian Land'; țeara from the Latin terra, 'land'; current spelling: Țara Românească)."
Alright, y'all need a lesson in Medieval "Romania" geography: Wallachia, the romanian country in the south (the one with Vlad the Impaler); Transilvania, the romanian country in the northwest (this one has Dracula and vampires...which is ironic and historically inaccurate because Dracula is based on Vlad the Impaler who was the wallachian king, not transilvanian); Moldavia, the romanian country in the northeast (this one had Stefan the Great, who built a monastery whenever he won against the turks....he built forty in total)
That one balding man in glasses and a robe who sits alone in the back of the tavern always loves when the bard plays this song. He pumps his arms in the air and screams "numa numa".
for a romanian this makes me cry of joy

This feels me with an indescribable sense of nostalgia, wistfulness and longing. This sounds like the memory of warm summer nights at a beach camping, and the elation of getting more independent in middle school. Anybody familiar with the mediterranean seaboard? Cause that's what this sounds like to me.
Ottoman soldier north of the Danube in 1457: “Why am I hearing boss music?
Ottomans are all cool and stuff until the forest starts playing Moldavian song.
This actually happened. They used a marching band to distract the Ottomans in a fogged forest.

pov: imagine you are walking in the city centre of Bucharest in the year 1302 and you enter in an old and typical tabern, and then you start drinking a good wine and rum chatting with some random medieval merchants while listening to this song
Não ok!
Such a perfect day ❤
Just a quick side note (I know, annoying), but we do not really have any proof of any proper Bucharest until 1459, when Vlad the Impaler himself made the Citadel of Bucharest his residence. ^^
@@priotesecosmin5923 tysm!! thats nice😉

Romanian in 1200: hard to understand for a Romanian
English in 1200: completely different language
Italian 1200: you can't just change syntax of modern Italian / haha "nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita" go brr
Romanian in 1200 is hard to read (different Alphabet) for Romanians while understanding it is not too hard it's just Romanian + more Slavic words or some Archaic Latin words.
Excellent version of this super-hit. It manages to stay true to the original melody, not to distort it - and yet, the arrangement sounds like such genuine medieval music! Exciting and beautiful!
You expressed my sentiments much more beautifully than I could have
I say, those wallachians bards have some interesting music!
Ottomans: *Exist*
Vlad Tepes:
DEUS VULT !
how`d you know
oh my GOD
Love the "medievalization" of this tune! Now for a version with vocals - but should the original Romanian be translated into Old Church Slavonic, maybe? Or perhaps the vocals could be a "medievalized" version of O-Zone's own English-language lyrics (which aren't quite a direct translation of the Romanian)? Or perhaps a medievalized English "misheard lyrics" version? Any of those would be fun to hear! (Although the Old Church Slavonic (or medieval Romanian? I know Romanian is a Romance language, and Old Church Slavonic was a Slavic language) translation would need English subtitles for enjoyment by a wider audience.)
Romanian here! Old Romanian is actually pretty hard to learn and decipher (it's my native language, and even I barely understand a thing), so I think just getting someone to sing it modern Romanian, preferrably in the Moldovian dialect (since this band is from Moldova) would be best
Romanians are not a Slavic nation, so I don't think Old Church Slavonic would be accurate choice here.
@@ArghastOfTheAlliance Understood; that's why I subsequently suggested in my original comment whatever the medieval version of Romanian was. (Or even medieval Latin.)
@@ArghastOfTheAlliance Actually, 20% of the Romanian language has slavic roots. Though I agree, Old Church Slavonic isn't a very good choice
@@DOSBoxMom I have no idea how did I not notice that 😂
CLASSIC!! You've made me smile and move in time with the music... something I haven't done in a very, very long time. Thanks mate! Thank you very much!

I remember being paid to join the campaign against Vlad The Impailer with my mercenary band. This song makes me remember that horrible days in today's Romania...
Yo can I do a vocal cover of this song? It wont be in ancient Dacian language but in an older romanian, due to dacian being a lost language. I speak fluent romanian and would love to do the vocal cover of this though.

this is actually beautiful
I remember when we heard this all day at radio. I was small then. We also have some good underrated music like "Roata Morii se-nvârtește" and some that were being spammed at radio all summer like "Salcâmii" or "Sub apă".
