I have a g20 M340i and uniden r8, but installation was still pretty much the same. Super helpful vid - appreciate it
Great video and wanted to share my experience and maybe others can learn from it.
First of all love the video and amazing job in explaining. When it comes to learning about our cars and how to diy this channel is the best. That being said I followed everything to the tee. I bought everything you had on your video. Same radar and mount and all. I even changed to blend mount after your other video.
So I tapped into where you recommended and at first the wire tape would not fit because they were a little too big so I used the smaller ones that came with the kit. Anyways everything went smoothly and I was happy with it. One thing that did annoy me was the fact the radar would turn on when you unlocked the car and stay on when you turn it off. I know you explained that however it did bother me and the also I did not like my wire job so I decided to see if I could clean it up. Well what ended up happening is one of the wire taps broke so I just then removed them and said screw it I’ll get this thing hard wired professionally. Well what happened for some reason the tap screwed up my rain sensor. Now the car thinks it is raining all the time so my headlights are always on during the day in auto mode and my wiper blades are always on with auto mode. I am utterly confused and don’t understand what the tap could have done? I think I might have ripped the wire inside but I was so gentle. Now I have to go get that fixed and this will be more than I thought. It’s really frustrating how finicky these German cars are. Anyways I wanted to share with people just be very careful when trying to tap. Your video does a great job explaining but for the non diy ers, however I would take this tale as word of caution for all the diy ers. Anyways thanks for the great video and content as always. My experience was not as pleasant and is ongoing.
I just bought an R7 thanks to you, and I will be installing the wire tap on my STi today, thank you!
It’s like ima follow your steps 😭😂got an STI & the f80 is my next dream car goal
Super helpful video, thanks for this!
TY very helpful. Red/brown worked for me. Also spliced my Viofo dashcam into the same wires through a 5v regulator. 👍
I still have one of these sitting in my shopping list on Amazon
This is your reminder to get one!
@@Scoobyfreak86 I'm adding it to my list! (Again 😆)
I got one of these and had to return it. I drive a 2016 Tacoma and every bump I hit the radar detector would move. I'd adjust it tighten it but a day later it would move. Ended up ordering a Blendmount and it's getting here on Monday.
Great video….. huge help! Thanks!
Super helpful - how has this held up 9 months later? No issues with the circuit, fitment or electronics or anything? It's good to go?
No issues at all
Will this mirror tap also work in my honda civic hatchback? I was looking to remove the panels just now but got a little nervous I was gonna break it haha
Yes can be used on any car with a power mirror. Just need to figure out the power and ground as the wires are most likely different.
Man, I just couldn't get the prongs in there!!! Dammit
Just need to push them in pretty firmly
Great content per usual. Can you speak on the R7? I am looking to get a radar but am unsure of what to get? I was thinking V1 Gen2 but have heard great things about R7. I’m in California and most of the cops are here are shooting KA so that’s what I’m most focused on detecting. Thanks!
The r7 is an amazing unit. The range is pretty insane. We use ka in nj as well. Highly recommend it!
Now that you've had it for a while, how are you liking the under-mirror mount? I'm trying to decide between that vs a very upper mirror windshield mount. How's right-side visibility?
I have this in all of my cars and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Keeps it in the perfect spot for the perfect range. Viability is just fine and not an issue.
@@Scoobyfreak86 Sweet TY
Would I be able to mirror tap a dashcam and a radar detector at the same time? If so would i be able to mirror tap the dash cam into the exact same wires as the detectors or would they have to be different?
Not sure if there will be enough voltage to power both at the same time. But hypothetically, yes you could tap into same wires for power on the dash cam.
Dude which ones did you tap on your f150. I've got a 2017 lariat with power and chromatic side mirrors. I tried looking up the chart online for the rearview mirror schematics and even called the ford dealership and had them email me one. I found a combo that worked but in reverse it would shut off when the back up cam came on and my left side mirror got all blue like it triggered the chromatic setting. I unplugged the unit and the mirror returned back to it's normal condition but since then I haven't plugged it back in. I have the same mount and tap... Just can't figure it out. Thought maybe I should ask you.

I have a 23’ m340i, would the wiring be the same?
Should be similar
Hey! Did you remove the other 3 cables before tapping in?
No you leave the wires in
@@Scoobyfreak86 thank you for responding!
What interior light bar are you using?

Thanks very much!@@Scoobyfreak86
At 9:10, how do you know which color wires to tap into ?
You need a power wire and a ground. The red and white is the power. And the brown and black is the ground. Tapping into them and you get power for the radar.
@@Scoobyfreak86 i understand that. My question was how do you determine which mirror wires to use for power and ground.
You can use a power meter which is the easiest way to determine which are hot.
@@Scoobyfreak86 OK. Thank you
Don’t have any laser shifters? What’s the point of using the detector?
Yo
Would you recommend everyone getting a radar for their cars?
It’s nice to be aware of your surroundings. I like the security of it and knowing what may lie ahead.
