Add ons ARE NOT locked behind a pay wall on fact there are lots of third party Addons you can get. The only ones that are would be the Minecraft marketplace mods, which most are free
Edit: I know you can’t get third party addons with console but he’s referring to bedrock as a whole

@@keistar9654I was under the impression that there weren't really mods in bedrock, but only addon packs. Also, there's more that Java edition wins out on besides mods, like redstone, hardcore, spectator mode (and adventure mode I think but nobody cares about that anyways), more world generation options, Java gets updates a LOT sooner than Bedrock in some cases, you can choose a Minecraft version you want to play (yes, I know about the 3rd party bedrock launcher, but I'm pretty sure that's only on PC anyways, and some people might now want to use a 3rd party launcher due to security risks), you can still get achievements with cheats enabled in Java, the F3 screen isn't in Bedrock, etc.., but the Bedrock edition still has features that I wish we're in Java, like being able to dye armor in cauldrons, the interesting ways of lighting some fires, the different fish sizes, higher render distance, etc... It really just comes down to what you prefer, as I typically like bedrock edition for building and playing with my friends who don't have a PC, as bedrock does have a lot of really great decoration features, but I typically use Java for any other case, as I don't really need the extra performance, as I have a decent computer, and I spend a lot more time in modding and building with redstone than anything else.

In my opinion the one thing that I want in Java that bedrock has is how easy it is to join your friends in their worlds

@@alexeipinchen2025 us java players either pay for realms, pay for server hosting or use our own pcs to host servers but many players just find free server hosting like aternos and it usually runs fine without hassle though if we wanted to play with alot of players we would have to do other methods
They're both good for what they're made for. period.
Bedrock has much more small features than Java tho, like baby squid, generation of fallen trees, and you can put potions in cauldrons

@@Acelium218 Youre kinda right. In bedrock it's mostly just spamming attack because you can. But in Java, because it's not possible, it becomes more complex in the good way. It's probably far more fun than just fist fighting lol

two other main differences which you may not know about if you're not a redstone user. java edition features "bud" powering (or quazzi connectivity if you're an old school redstoner) for pistons, droppers, and a couple other redstone related blocks. bedrock doesn't have this feature, as it was originally a java bug that they chose not to fix due to it's incredibly useful nature. bedrock does have movable tile entities though, something we've wanted in vanilla java edition for a long time now.
Oh here's more differences I guess. Kind of adding on from the redstone one but mainly for map making.
Java edition has more commands and bedrock has less commands which is not as customizable.
Bedrock edition has a more nicer command block interface in my opinion and Java edition does not. Please note this is an opinion.
When typing in a command in Java edition, it will try suggesting or helping you with filling out a command and in bedrock edition it does not do that.

@@ariamh823 Bedrock is also available on PC/Consoles. They can use a button to switch their video which mobile players can't do. There is an addon to do it but it doesn't work anymore on 1.19

I feel like there’s such a large misconception of the marketplace, most people seem to think that you can’t do anything custom or freely without playing for something in the marketplace, like different custom skins, but like, people have been able to use custom skins on bedrock since the dawn of time. And most maps and stuff are usually not free, lots of people don’t really feel the need to pay anyways.

THERE IS NO DUMB PAYWALL ON BEDROCK EDITION YOU CAN EASILY INSTALL ADDONS TEXTUREPACKS BEHAVIOR PACKS SKINPACKS WORLD TEMPLATES AND MUCH MORE WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT YOU JUST HAVE TO RUN A .MCPACK FILE OR .MCWORLD OR WHATEVER
But sometimes those files dont work so you have to use something like izip and convert the file into a zip and drop the file into minecraft.

Keep in mind that almost every advantage bedrock has (including performance) you can get as good or better if you're willing to mod the Java edition.
Yeah but sadly a used Xbox one with 1 terabytes of space and 2 games is less expensive then a 1k gaming PC. I love both I just can't afford to buy a PC with my rent abd food constantly going up because of inflation.
Except for a community which thinks that both versions are equally good and doesn't have a ton of people who want to prove how their version is better than the other one.

honestly from my experience bedrock doesn't really preform better than unmodded java, at least on my rig. i only play bedrock for easy multiplayer but like... java + fabulously optimized easily clears bedrock

I have experience in both versions so I can comfirm java is more customisable as you can use at her clients to launch it or modify it
