Despite nearly landing the Bills in the same neighborhood as the Sabres thanks to Rex Ryan being the first HC hired during the Pegulas tenure as owners, Terry managed to get out of his own way and let McD and Beane transform the Bills. That all came at the cost of leaving Kim to flounder around with the Sabres and turn them into a team that will be a complete tire fire for a very, very long time.

      @chuckmarmo6244 Před rokem

      @@ryanahr2267 It’s game 79 of the 2022-23 season and the Sabres just beat the Rangers in a shootout to keep their very slim playoff chances alive for 1 more game. Someone commented on that game being the “most exciting in history” between the teams and was rightly corrected and directed to this game. I’m happy to also correct you on your “tire fire for a very, very long time” assessment. Over 2 short years the team has crafted the start of a new winning culture under the guidance of GM Adams and Coach Granato. Disgruntled Jack Eichel has been traded away and the spirit in the locker room lifted almost immediately. Thompson and Dahlin have emerged as superstars, Skinner has his game back, Mittlestadt has finally developed his, and newer arrivals Tuch, Cozens, Quinn, Peterka, and others have the team playing 3 solid lines. Even Okposo is having a late career renaissance! The only fire is a rekindled competitive one that promises to grow even brighter. It’s an exciting time once more to root for the blue and gold!!

      @@chuckmarmo6244 It has indeed changed drastically. The important thing will be following up next season regardless of whether they make the playoffs this year. With the improvements this year (especially Levi being a revelation in net) there's no excuse for this team to be scraping for a WC spot next year. I highly doubt that there's a President's Trophy forthcoming but they should definitely be able to solidify a mid to high seed in the playoffs.

I've been going to games since my mother was pregnant with me lol. I've watched every single game with my dad since I was an infant. Watching the games together has always been our tradition, and RJ called all of those games. Whenever I hear his voice whether it's him calling the Scary Good goal or just a play in the neutral zone at the end of a shift, I'm instantly taken back to when I was a little girl during the 06-07 years watching the game right next to my dad on the couch

    This fucking sequence is everything. Even if the Sabres had won a Cup at some point, this would still be one of the top 5 moments in franchise history.
    And in what universe is RJ not the GOAT of play-by-play commentators? His call of the Drury goal couldn’t have been more perfect ...even if he somehow wrote it down beforehand.
    Everything about that GTG and then the GWG by Afinogenov was perfect. The calls of the goals, Drury’s mini fist-pump goal celebration, the reaction from the fans outside the Arena (inc. that one dude who is now infamous for climbing on top of his boy while screaming and triumphantly raising his arm), the humble/clutch way Drury just sits his ass back down on the bench after he scores...and then Afinogenov’s celebration of the GWG was perfect because of the fact that 61 hadn’t scored in like 50 games...and then on top of all that, Lindy’s celebration of the OT win was so perfect and so telling as far as how much that dude loves this city/Franchise. That win was so huge for him.
    It’s a shame the Sabres didn’t win the cup in either 2006 or 2007...and that they have fallen so far the past 10+ years (though maybe they can get their shit together in 2020-21).

    This is my favorite call ever, had to revisit it tonight Bc of RJ night and now I’m in tears. This fanbase has suffered so much but I feel so bad for RJ, the last decade of his career he never commentated a playoff game. Once the Sabres get back in it I want RJ to cover one game.

    Chris Drury was unbelievably clutch. Between his time spend with Colorado and Buffalo, the number of game winning (or game tying in a case like this) goals he had was ridiculous.

    As a Rangers fan, this one was a total heartbreaker. I remember watching this and throwing something at the TV when Drury tied it lol. The Rangers had this one, and probably would have won the series if they held on. But I give the Sabres props here, they clearly wanted it more!

    I totally remember watching this game! I was watching the game with my dad and mom.Dad was a Rangers fan and of course I like Buffalo.So when my dad asked who I thought would score in OT I picked Affinaganov. I won $2 on that ha ha.One of the best memories I have of Sabres playoff hockey as far as the 2000s go.

    Also, not only are the Sabres games themselves sold out at the Arena, but you have another group of thousands outside watching the game on the big screen a bit to the left of the main entrance of the Arena, PLUS all the people watching/listening at home or in a bar or restaurant. The passion that city has is truly amazing.
