      In the toughness aspect it doesn't. However, people who make statements such as yourself, do not truly remember the state of the game in the clutch and grab era.
      The NHL peaked in the 80s but by the early noughties, all teams were well coached defensively and 2-1 was a typical boring hockey score. A fight didn't save the day, unless it was one for the ages.
      The specific time I personally remember the most fondly is probably the mid 90s, as I was a bit too young to truly appreciate 80s hockey live.

    This was absolutely fantastic. I swear there was a game when Domi was mic'd up, and Rayzor asked if he could say Hi to his mom. He leaned in to Domi's sweater, said, "Hi, ma. Love you." Then they immediately fought. I wish that clip had made it into the video.

    I remember when i was on a flight in 1991 from Edmonton to LA and the NY Rangers were on board. I was sitting next to Randy Gilhen and i saw Domi standing up in the aisle in front of me talking to Mike Gartner and Sergei Nemchinov. I remember Domi had on a cowboy hat and a big smile and noticed his knuckles were full of scabs and looked like his hands went thru a meat grinder. I asked Randy Gilhen if he would mind signing his autograph for my nephew who was a big Rangers fan and he actually said sure and would pass it on to the team. He then gave it to Tie Domi and he had everyone sign it except 'Moose' because Messier was sleeping and didn't dare to wake him. Anyways, thanks to Randy Gilhen and Tie Domi for going out of their way to please a young fan🙏.

    • @incumbentvinyl9291
      @incumbentvinyl9291 Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@ToddCrispies ''Don't judge him for the mistakes he made''
      I find this an odd thing to say in a general sense. Why should an individual not be judged for their mistakes, especially when we're talking about a decades long list of misbehaviour and criminal activity? We are after all, talking about someone who served time in prison. That's not exactly a good fellow who strayed off the path slightly and erred a couple of times.
      Perhaps you're the kind of person that considers drunk driving, drug addiction and adultery acceptable behaviour. I most certainly do not.
      I can not comprehend why we'd want to pretend these things didn't happen. I have the outmost respect for Probert and the career he had in the NHL. However, that doesn't make me blind to the truth. Probert wasn't one of the ''good guys'', far from it.
      An additional note. The irony in astounding when you say we should respect his family, when he failed to respect his family himself.
      Frankly, I think you're embarrassing yourself.

After the 2004 lockout it was over for the NHL. Playoff games now have less intensity than a preseason game did back in the 80s. Zero passion in today's game.

And it is not just about fighting, it is the energy and tension that just doesn't seem to be there anymore. Too many teams, no Coach's Corner to look forward to anymore. I will always love the game of hockey but the NHL sure isn't the same and we were lucky to have lived through the greatest era of hockey.

      Yup 90s early 00s were my fave. I don't watch the game now or follow it. I was at bar other night game was on and it was first time in decade watching and what a snooze fest. Then tonight Leafs flyers 2003 game 7 came up on CZcams and the difference is depressing. Way more physical but also better skating and agility imo. Then the fact they finished their checks and refs were not tight asses. Goalies were more fun to watch and more physical and obviously could play pick more. Game just ain't the same. @@MacNur-tu3cq Can you imagine Scott Stevens in today's NHL? He'd be suspended most of the year every season for some of the hits he threw back then. Today's game is weak sauce. • @MacNur-tu3cq
      @MacNur-tu3cq Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@94champs I'd rather have the pace xnd culture of the game the way it was in 80s, 90s and early aughts. Stevens was beast. Lots of tough mfers back then. The players were just different breed back then. They partied harder, hit harder, and didn't have social media to rot their egos and brains. Just watching that flyers leaf game from 03 just led me down rabbit hole of all the great names and games. It really was a better sport and the culture was way better. Hockey was the last stand of badassery in pro sports but now it is falling to the all inclusive soft pc environment. Not to mention guys were still valuable in their later years and still were stars. Now it seems league full of young guys with silver spoons.

    I personally would love to extend a heartfelt thank you to both of these gentlemen. Watched every one of these tilts growing up. They meant so much to my youth looking back, realizing it more now later in life. Great players & competitors. This was so classy bringing these 2 together like this.

    Most of the fighters back in the day seemed to really respect each other. It’s amazing. They could be trying to knock each others head off one moment and ready to go out for a beer together the next moment. They had such a tough job. Warriors.

    That was really nice to watch.
    Grew up playing ol time hockey.
    Throughout the 80s, the game was starting to change. I wasn't a fighter. But was in a few. I took a few pops to noggin and nuts between lightning up the pipes.😎 Respect to all those who protected me when otherwise I was toast!
    Thank you for producing this.👍

    Was never a big hockey fan . Being Canadian I know that’s odd . But this truly was an era that will never happen again . And rivalries/bonds that will never be made amongst real men . Props to you all. Both the enforcers and the rest do the players who legit played for the love of the game and had each others backs out there 👊.

    I wanted and got a NYR #28 Domi jersey for Christmas 1992 when I was 13. It was best Christmas present ever. Domi got traded 3 days later to Winnipeg and I was devastated. Still have it to this day, it doesn't fit and it’s pretty beat up but it’s still my favourite. Thanks Tie and Rob for the great memories.
