  • Citroen GS and GSAs in the UK's Citroen Car Club. Some of the cars are used only on fine weekends but at least two have done 5,000 miles in the last year.

I have a Citroen GS Club estate from 1977, it is used every day and is a great car.

I was on the idea of having one of this unique cars again (can`t forget my GS, he saved my life with a blown left front tire I didn`t noticed what happened until I stopped to check) but the spare parts here in Argentina are very hard to get, not to mention specialist to fix that so I desisted to have one for now. I still look to this videos with nostalgy. Is it just me or they are really beautiful?

Despite the GS in particular being beautiful and very technically advanced, this does not mean they have been kept on the road. There are only 39 GSAs "On the road" in the UK according to DVLA data for the third quarter of 2012. The position for the GS is somewhat better at 52 taxed to be on the road. Fortunately the numbers have stabilised over the last few years but these are very small numbers when compared with the 14,000 or so Morris Minor variants that are licensed or 3,000 2CV variants.

They rusted away.....but one or two are discovered each year in a wide range of condition. There are about 20 GSs and 40 GSAs on the road in the UK and this figure ties in with the 2007 MOT data that was published as a result of a Freedom of Information Act query on MOT data by the BBC.

I agree that the GS and GSA are wonderful and have one of each to drive when there is no salt on the road. However, the DS3 will not rust with the same propensity as a GS/A and its interior will not rot or fade with sunlight to the same extent. There are motoring journalists who rate the DS3 higher than some of its rivals!

I agree with your comments on rust and experienced plenty of rust on products from BL, Rootes, Fiat, Renault, Honda and even VW was not immune.

I have one of each: the GS has a better, more comfortable ride than the GSA [but the GSA is super compared with most modern cars] and the 1222cc engine is very smooth in our GS. The GSA hatch is more practical than the GS saloon; the heating and ventilation is far superior on GSA with the central air vent and 3-speed fan. The GSA steering also seems heavier even though both are on the correct Michelin tyres.

@Woolymatt The "How Many Left" website indicates that there are 50 GS models on the road in the UK and 36 GSAs at the end of 2011.

We had GS-A back in 1996 to 2002 or 03 if I remember correctly and it was a great car, it was just like the one on this video at 3:02 and I also agree that GS was nicer than GS-A.

It's a great pity Citroen pulled out of the North American market when it did. These cars would have been very popular during the gas crunch of the early 70's when all Detroit had to offer was the Vega and the Pinto.
