There is no greater situation the US will ever be in to attract attention from US audiences and recruit young kids to pursue this sport seriously than the 2026 World Cup on home soil and the focus of Messi playing in the US.

    It’s one of these interesting things when people say ‘Ronaldo!’ Now my assumption is due to the Premier League being where McBride played, I do believe he is referring to CR7. But people have to be careful and realise that there are still some of us in a generation that will differentiate the two. I call the Brazilian ‘Ronaldo.’ I call the Portuguese skipper ‘CR7’ or ‘Cristiano.’

    The one thing that McBride gets wrong is thinking that MLS has any chance of getting a top player in their prime. That will not happen until the level of the rest of the players improves dramatically. No top player will waste their best years playing in the minor leagues. Jude Bellingham isn't coming here until he is in his Mid 30s. Doesn't matter if they get paid big bucks. No legit footballer will want to play against players inferior to them. It will be a short career for them. In terms of him saying the quality having got to the level that will attract top players, I think 35 year old Lionel Messi answered that when he came and had the same competition as him playing against his 3 sons. The current top American players need to stay in Europe. They will only get worse going to the MLS. This is exactly what they don't want to do to improve. It is honestly so depressing to see how delusional even some of these former players are that are brainwashed about the US system. Nothing ever changes.

    • @odb233
      @odb233 Před 10 dny

      I think that he kind of insinuated that after talking about players no longer playing for their country if they did come over. I do think the mls has the potential to rival Europe but it is many years away. I think a start would be to have some champions league games over here. I think that would motivate more money to be invested in game over here. Let’s see what happens after 2026. 94 did a lot for the game here in the states.

    • @RickyRicardo84
      @RickyRicardo84 Před 10 dny +1

      Truth is we could probably have the best league in the world if soccer was our #1 sport here in the states. Gotta bring soccer to the hood and stop making it pay to play.

    • @CG68810
      @CG68810 Před 10 dny +1

      @@RickyRicardo84 EXACTLY!!! This is the point. I am a long time avid soccer fan and sometimes I feel like trying to find games on tv is like finding a needle in a haystack. The masses will never embrace soccer until they are able to watch it free like they can with American football, basketball, college sports, etc. The networks are doing next to nothing to promote a massive opportunity with exception to the rare World Cup matches, some Premier league games, or Copa America matches. If as you said, people in the hood, or just the everyday man or kid can't access it without paying for it, it will never take hold at the level the other major sports do. They also need to heavily promote it. It is a gold mine they are leaving untouched.

    • @CG68810
      @CG68810 Před 10 dny

      @@odb233 If I lived in Europe, supported my club and then they moved the Champion's league games to the US, I would be pissed. The US doesn't deserve them. They are doing nothing to try to grow the sport or televise it. The reason that US players that play in Europe get disrespected is because there is anger and irritation at how disrespectful and arrogant the US and their media are towards soccer. Would US fans be ok if the Super Bowl was played in China for instance? There is a ton of money out there from potential corporate sponsors, rich donors, and others that will go untapped until the networks (basic cable) take the risk and broadcast not just MLS games, but European games. Since Europe is 5-6 hours ahead of the US, it is no brainer because it does not conflict with the NFL broadcasts, or other sporting events. People won't invest themselves into something they only are exposed to every 4 years or occasionally when something is broadcasted.
