  • Take my advice,
    if you own a Lexus LS400 and you are having issues with your cluster and you believe your vehicle might be overheating…
    Send your cluster out to get the CAPACITORS REPLACED first.
    This very common problem will cause all sorts of weird issues with your cluster, making it unreliable.

    Not ocd at all. Those kinds of things wink loudly at you once you have worked on cars even for a little bit.

    What year...how many miles on the car. Thanks for posting.

      It’s a 1996 with 135k miles. 👍🏻

    those thermostats are rated for a certain temp anyway. you can get them to open at higher or lower temps than OEM but bases on the needle on your dash i would assume the new one is working. I guess that little digital tool is giving a false reading like you said.

      Yup, until those capacitors on both the cluster and the PCM are replaced. All of the readings are inaccurate.

    Something I didn’t follow in this video. I had a 1995 LS400 with a thermostat that opened at about 195-200F and that’s where the car sat at operating temperature. And the cluster needle sat right where it was in your video. I understand using the heat gun on the radiator hose but wouldn’t the exterior of the hose be a little cooler than what is inside it assuming it has at least some insulation properties?

      @VikingsGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      That’s correct, that’s why the gun reads 165f +- , operating temp on a 1996 ls400 is about 180f max. So what’s there not to understand, the computer at times said the vehicle was at 215f (which would indicate a overheating condition)
      The point of the video if you watch the whole thing is that regardless of your ls400 condition, get the pcm and cluster capacitors replaced.
      Very well know problem.
      (They leak overtime, creating all sorts of issues)

    Thank you 🙏
    Great video!
    I think the FJ Cruiser is easier to maintain than the LS400. Do you agree?

      Oh my friend, do I agree!! 💯
      (Out of the projects I’ve taken, since starting this CZcams venture, I lost the most $$ with that Lexus)
      No longer my problem.

      @@VikingsGarageSorry to hear, that was one of the reason I had sold my 20 old IS300. It was a great car but age made it a time bomb waiting to be disastrous with full of electronics….I dislike cars with too much electronics…what a contrast to problem free Toyota Corolla or Camry of that same year 1990.

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      @Thankyou_3 unfortunately very true, LS400 is a great car but get ready to have a constant electric riddle. What I didn’t mention in the video is that the same type of issue also affects the PCM.
      For those reasons and more a much simpler and just as reliable Camry of the same era is indeed a much smarter car to own. 🤷🏼‍♂️
