- King Charles has outlined the UK government's priorities for the year ahead, in his first King's Speech as monarch.
The speech outlined 21 laws that ministers intend to pass in the next year-long session of Parliament.
Around a third have been carried over from the previous session, or previously published in some form.

it is important to remember that in 1642 the parliamentarians and Cromwell never fought to give us representation. They just were annoyed, as they had the purse strings and wealth being taken from them . They are all on the same team and for their own benefit

I am SO glad that it was a full ceremonial first State Opening of Parliament with the robes and carriages not cars and day dress, thrones not a lectern etc. I had feared a European style State Opening with the monarch looking like a ceremonial president like Germany and Ireland. Modernisation doesn't mean doing away with our traditions. Seeing him WEAR the crown not have it relegated to a mere symbol on a cushion is so important. Camilla looked great too and thank God didn't wear the Greville Boucheron tiara which she's worn to DEATH as Duchess of Cornwall.

@@bigfred0997 in the US they claim that cigarette tax money goes to helping lung cancer… yes there are rare cases of lung cancer in non-smokers, but cancer from smoking took my grandfather, uncle and friend in college (he was too young, but he smoked early and often, he finally got sick from it and quit with the gum… he was still dead within a year.
