  • For episode 2 of our Panama Field Guides birding adventure, our hosts Chris and Diego set out from Tranquilo Bay Ecolodge by boat in search of seabirds, hybrid manakins, and lifers. On this special birding by boat trip in Panama, The Birders Show hosts enjoy surprise bird encounters, pranking our host, and a mindblowing bird island in the Caribbean Sea.

I'm with Diego on the sandpipers, bro. They all look the same, they're far away, and they're found in muddy places that smell like my socks after a day's birding. I'll take the enchanting forest birds, thanks very much 😅🤙

Another great episode! What an incredible experience we had in the field, even with the rain. Thanks for gag with the Jabiru, now everyone knows it's my nemesis bird. If you want to convert Diego to the sandpipers, bring him back to the beach at the Changuinola River, during the peak of migration and let him identify the tired ones getting picked off by the Peregrine Falcons hunting for an easy meal.

I will sacrifice myself and go there to learn a couple of pips ;-) and will behave about Jabirus I promise ;-)

Diego, you are not harsh on Sandpipers and they don't deserve more love....sorry Chris 😂!! Actually just found your channel and looking at these older shows. You guys are great, and I really enjoy the adventures . I am a (recreational) photographer who has been drawn to small bird photography here in my traditional territory of the Kichi Sipi (Ottawa River) in Eastern Canada. My recent retirement from federal protected areas management now means I have more time to give to bird photography and travel. My wife and I spent 4 weeks total (2 two week periods) in Cuba and photographed over 100 different species in that time. Any way great show, looking forward to many more.

Thanks, Peter, so glad you're enjoying the show! And I will keep defending sandpipers 🤣🤣🤣 perhaps Diego's time in Alaska for their shorebird festival will convert him haha!

Awesome show. Went to Bocas 20 years ago and now need to go back! And BTW, sandpipers are pretty awesome. Not the greatest habitats (I study and conserve them in flooded agricultural lands), but think of their migration and what they do every year! And, when you do get that good look, even in winter, they are beautiful. :).

they are indeed AMAZING birds Rodd... I am just not yet, fully, pumped by them!... getting to love the more and more, slowly... jejejeje... go to Bocas... I did it back in 2012 I think and going back almost 10 years later was SUPERB!!!!

I think I saw that same Nicaraguan Seed Finch on that same tree with Jesse Fagan in March 2017. Such a great place and lodge.

Joshua mate, I think Jesse was sober the last time I saw him like 4 months ago in Los Nevados because the time before that, we were pretty drunk dancing in Manizales until 4am with everyone... might have even seen THAT SAME seedfinch in Manizales... jajaja... cool birds
