They are the same characters as the hostages. They were ransomed back to the British. That's why Badminton says there are witnesses to his brothers murder at the beginning of this episode- they were the ones on the boat when he got stabbed.
I first watched the kiss scene through my fingers, pausing repeatedly and saying "no, no, no, no" because I KNEW it happened too early 😭. I knew something awful was gonna happen afterwards, so I paused it there for a good ten minutes before continuing 😂

I had the same reaction to beardless Ed that Stede did 😅 Which is a little weird, cause I'm used to seeing Taika with less of a beard than in this show, but it was such a drastic change in his appearance that I, too, screamed 😅 The kiss gave me life and I screamed about it as well. My brain was immediately an asshole, though, as soon as I realized there was so much time left of the episode and the entire last one it just went: You know something bad is about to happen, right?
