- Disney Illusion Island reviewed by Tristan Ogilvie on Nintendo Switch.
"Disney Illusion Island’s platforming may be extremely polished but it’s not particularly inventive, and nor is it likely to appeal to anyone who favours a more combat-oriented Metroidvania experience - its enemies are strictly for dodging rather than destroying, and its small assortment of boss fights are mostly anticlimactic. Where it excels, though, is in providing a wholesome co-operative journey through a charismatic cartoon world that’s well-suited to pairings of parents and their children, or perhaps older and younger siblings. It effectively gives every member of the party the means to happily bound along on the ride without ever being made to feel like a burden. If you’re after a frictionless, family-friendly platforming adventure that’s heavy on charm and light on challenge, then Disney Illusion Island fits the bill better than a muzzle on Donald Duck." - Hry
Whoever wrote "mouse to mouse resuscitation" deserves a raise.
tristans reviews are always wordplay poetry
Came to the comments to make sure this was stated.
Can't forget the pun about Donald refusing to wear pants and not being able to butt bounce a prickly enemy 😂
Great to see more Disney games, especially the old characters so the new generation of kids know who they are.
Or let those characters vanish and show kids better ones.
@@positivevibesrfcOr how about you just stop posting nonsense
kids can google though can't they?
@@positivevibesrfcWoke garbage ones?
Surprised that not more people have made the comparison to Rayman Legends with this. The floaty physics and so much of the level design is clearly heavily inspired by it.
And eyes everywhere.
The level design is nothing like rayman legends.
@@PaulieWalnuts13"Nothing"? really? They were the first games that came to mind.
@@PaulieWalnuts13 The map design reminds me of Ori and the Blind Forest, which ironically, is a game that reminds me of Rayman xD
Exactly!
We need a third game in the Rayman Ubiarts series
Idd!!
Unfortunately they said they won't make another because they want to sell millions and so prefer adult games like assassins creed
Really a charming and delightful game that captures the essence of the Disney magic, with the graphics and animations colorful, detailed, and full of personality!
There is a hug button. This game is a 10/10
One of my most anticipated games this year, mainly due to the lack of Mickey and Disney games. Even though the game is mainly catered to casuals, it still seems like a fun game to play; even when you're alone.
Also this review is one of the better and fair IGN reviews I've seen in a while, and props to the reviewer who put in the "mouse to mouse resuscitation" joke.
The healing partners is pretty much Kirby's way of healing
Disney should remaster/remake castle of illusion; world of illusion; Mickeymania; Fantasia & Quackshot
Getting strong Rayman Legends vibes from this, and I’m totally loving it!
Then go play Rayman Legends. It's a much better game.
Seems delightful. Great editing on the review too.
This reminds me of Rayman Legends! Playing it for the first time on PS3 is forever ingrained into my mind. I'd really like to pick this one up soon
Did everyone forget Mickey Mania?? This is a clear throwback to the 90s Mickey Mania, Aladdin and Lion King games.
Its a throwback to the Illusion series of games: Castle of Illusion, Land of Illusion and World of Illusion
I’m hoping for Disney Magical World 3, next!
Disney should just continue making Mickey related content aside from kid shows. Honestly, the mascot himself has been distancing himself from the mainstream media since forever now. Hopefully this game will finally bring some senses to Disney.
May have to do with the copyright on him nearing the end in coming years.
@@noneofyourbusiness4616Copyright belongs to Disney so as long as Disney lives so long lives Mickey
@@exciter3714 Google the words Mickey Mouse copyright and get back to me on that.
It does. The specific version of Mickey used for this game is not the one you usually see. It's the Steamboat Willie version, the one that was set to expire in 2028. This gets around that, plus being released on Nintendo, who is notorious for going after copyright infringment cases, assures them double protection.@@noneofyourbusiness4616
Looks great. Will get it eventually.
man, it really does look like rayman legends, combined with the hugging/kissing mechanic of kirby.
Reviewers voice be going to the moon and back with every sentence
Love that opening line.
As a huge fan of the Illusion series, I’ll have to give this one a shot. It’s on sale right now on the Switch. So glad they are still making these games.
Thanks for the great review 😊
can you change characters outfits?
Wish this would come out on PS5, but for now I’ll be playing it on Switch.
Not a big fan of platformers but the art style looks incredible
Getting Castle of Illusion vibes here
Remind me of Mickey and Donald world of Illusion in mega drive
Disney games are back and I’m still waiting for that Split Second sequel to comeback
No attack button makes no sense.
They used Steamboat Willie Mickey in this, and released it on Nintendo, to circumvent the copyright expiration in a few years.
is it super easy ??
Great review. However, not mentioning the amazing soundtrack in this game is nearly criminal.
This is only on the switch, right
Yepper.
Where's Rayman 3 ?
Why are you asking for random games in random comment sections
@@undisclosedsteve6361 no comment
Is it 7?
Anyone who wants a challenge with this game try playing with one heart and no friends. It makes it harder than u’d think
But can it run steamdeck?
this game is going to my wishlist
Daisy would be mad that she wasn’t invited 😂
$40 for phycisal game is not bad
Ate que enfim incluiram o pateta !
I'm a big platformer fan and think this looks awesome! Will certainly be checking it out.
Disney have always had a decent track of games since the PS1.
Just need three friends 😢
Can you please make a reviews on signalis and bramble the mountain king 🤴 🙏
IGN's best review in a long long time. Well done! Looking forward to playing this.
Dreamlight Valley is so much better but this is cool too
feels nostalgic like playing at old console back there
This looks like Rayman Origins/Legends but with Disney and that's what really draws me to this game
As a lover of the "carl barks" and "don rosa" comics, the new art style of the characters makes my eyes hurt
Funny Disney never made a new Mickey Mouse movie.
I'll wait for it to come to PlayStation 5
They gave it 7
Finally a new Disney game
7/10 for you lazy lads!
But what are the reasons?
@@jksanriono combat and weak boss fight coz no weapons and platforming is not much challenging for veterans of 2d platform gamers. It's a fun ride for family
Yay! Thanks lol
Seems fair for a kids game
7/10 scores don’t bother me; does it actually bother you guys when they give a 7/10 if they think the game deserves it?
Great game. Love the artwork and graphics
More like "cartoon network" illusion island
You have kids just breaking into gaming its perfect. If you want a Mario like platform adventure... then skip it. Its very basic and lackluster compared Magical Quest.
So do all games revolve around Metroidvania? It seems people can't do a review without referencing it.
Cause by structure this is a metroidvania, not a linear platformer. What can't you understand?
@@sausage5488 Yeah, but move on. It's like saying all games with guns are Doom inspired.
@@finlaywhiskard3965 Metroidvania is a genre of games, just like fps.
@@finlaywhiskard3965metroidvania is just a part of the gaming lexicon. Trying to erase that is trying to erase history, and until people stop knowing what “super Metroid” and “castlevania: symphony of the night” are the term is going to continue to be used. It’s also not an easy term to replace, since it has been used to describe 3D games like Arkham asylum it can’t just be referred to as a type of “platformer.” Exploration, collectibles found through investigation, puzzles, large and involved boss battles, ability upgrades that unlock additional areas.. by using the term, you know exactly what type of game it’s going to be. “Rogue like” is another term referring to a very, very old game, but it’s one that hardly anyone has actually played, while most peoples at least know about castlevania and Metroid. Between the two, roguelike is worse!
@@sausage5488 Alright, fair enough.
Вот бы Bunker 21 платформер
It deserves a 6
This game at least 8/10, seven is underrated for me
Is it better than world of illusion though ?
Not even close.
Rayman vibes! 🎉
I’m sorry this looks like a flash game, the original castle of illusion was much more artistic then this.
Great minds think alike!
Oh, look. It's another "7." Should anybody really be surprised at this point?
Goofy back on the glass bbq
Did you need two copies to play with your son?
Looks like a 1st year game dev project
It looks cute but it's not for me
Rayman is the best
This looks like a worse version of World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, TBH.
9/10
Adorable
the graphics are so not appealing
Where is Daisy? Boomer she isn't here.
First view, like, and comment!!!
Edit: within 19 seconds of upload too 😂
Hug button?
Automatically 10/10
Si no one going to say this is like super Mario wonder 🙃🙃🙃
Not even mention Rayman Origins where entire style mostly inspired by that game is the downside of this review.
Goodyy
The art design is terrible though. Everything is so flat at “flash” animation today.
Why are they so POORLY DRAWN? The original Castle of Illusion is way better illustrated!
They went for the rubber hose style used in the super old school Mickey shorts and new Mickey Mouse cartoons. Probably a lot cheaper and easier to replicate than the 90’s style “House of Mouse” style Mickey.
@youtubeuserman2460 90's art work was way better.
The hug mechanic is ripped straight out of The Swords of Ditto!
7/10
But what are the reasons?
2 min into the review, and I'm seeing more cinema scenes than gameplay. Do better.
The start of the review is completely irrelevant. Like…what does the cost of living going up have anything to do with this Mickey Mouse game? Giant turn off.
They gave it a 7
But what are the reasons?
@jksanrio it's boring and easy
looks like an extremely bland version of far better games
This was made entirely to circumvent the copyright expiration on the Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse in 2028. Releasing it exclusively on Nintendo assures them double protection.
the game is boring
…and it still manages to be more of a rpg than Final Fantasy XVI 😀
Not a fan of the animation style and art, not up to Disney standards imo!!!...
So there are assists for less skilled players. Gamers hate that right? Everything must be a challenge
LGBT?
what?
Long Gone Button Tom?
The hugging reminds me of kribys kissing 🥰
