Great job on these videos. They are well made and you bring up many good points. I played this version of axis and allies with my friends. I was Germany and was absolutely wrecked... too many things to think about, really hard for a first timer. Now that I've seen these I plan to go back and bring glory to Germany.

Good series! I agree that going West is a good option! What you did not mention, but what is important is that the UK has a lot of original territories in the Pacific. By liberating any of them the US indirectly support the war effort in Europe. Plus, if you play with NO’s, there is one NO for the UK in the pacific which you can secure for them. So, going West for the US is economically very good.

Good call. I completely forgot to mention that. Also, thanks for the compliment!

Maybe you could also do a quick strategy video on what to do as China in this game.

I find the Money Islands is the best way to cripple Japan.
Taking out 9-12 IPC from Japan takes most of the wind out of their sails, allowing you to devote most of your income towards the European Axis, who are extremely dangerous in this version (regardless of scenario).

When strategic bombing a factory and you roll a 4 or less, do you place 1 damage marker on the factory per strike or 1-4 (depending on the roll)?

    • @phd_angel4192
      @phd_angel4192 Před 4 lety +1

No. You roll one die per bomber, and the number you roll (1 to 6) is the damage you inflict on the factory. For example, if you attack with 2 bombers (and they survived AA guns) and you roll a 4 and a 5, then you place 9 chips under the factory. The factory owner will have to pay up to 9 "dollars" in his turn to repair the factory.

What do you think about national objectives? I haven’t played a game without them, but does it balance the game more or something? Generally, I experience the Allies with a stronger advantage.

The Axis objectives are better in this game. Much easier and with Italy sperate that's more objectives (extra money) to get.

There are, in my opinion, two good reasons to play with national objectives:
1.) They are a crucial part of game balance. The game will not feel broken without them, but the balance will change.
Just think about Italy. They will be even more severely limited in their production abilities throughout the game.
And the damage the japanese momentum will cause to the US and UK in the early game will be much lower.
2.) They lead to a more historical accurate game experience. Because that is where the incentives are.
Japan might still invade russia for example. But they will gain very little, and are at a risk to loose their objectives to the US if they invest too much on the russia front.
UK might focus on Europe, but will have to wait a long time for the US to secure their victory conditions back in the east.
Germany might try to win the european sea with battleships and carriers. But this will bind ressources they could use against russia to secure their objectives (and undermine theirs).
      To sum it up:
Without the nationsl objectives you have a completely different and worse balanced game experience.

I prefer sniping the money islands in G40, Revised, and 42/42SE also. I would never advocate a pure KJF strategy though. Once you take the money islands I find you end up wasting way too much time and money trying to supply your fleet/kill the IJN.
Classic (and 41 lol) is the only version I can think of where it's outright a bad idea to build up in the Pacific to some extent. And that's only because the money islands in that game are not worth many IPCs.
