    The light regulations about vehicles have exact measurements about where rear lights are positioned. The original tail lights are no longer technically the furthest point at the rear so the aftermarket tail lights have to take up the responsibility of being the fog light, tail lights etc

    I drive a 21 plate Sprinter myself, the doors open right out and fold round the side of the van. it's only really useful for loading it with bulky items or euro pallets...which as a courier I appreciate a lot. The doors can be a pain in the wind, but it depends. It'd be better if they have a locking bar like a transit does, which you can lift off to fold the doors round the side of the van instead.
    The dash on ALL mercs, not just the sprinter, has teh "we just glued an iPad to the dash" issue, a bit like almost all vehicles have an obesity problem these days.

    The MAN Cockpit looks quite sleek (albeit beeing practically your VW trademark stiffler boringness, just bigger), but the Master cockpit honestly is almost equally as nice if you spec them similarly, and it has so much more functionality. Most importantly, they just spend so much time making this a pleasant space to be and to work, with the tables and all. Small things, but they make your day to day life just better.

  • @RichardStefanits
    @RichardStefanits Před 3 lety

    I have to agree there is a reason Transporters in general are so popular. The MAN (spelled M. A. N. letter by letter) and the new crafter are following the same ideas in the internals of the cab. They are just nice and functional at the same time. There are better vans mechanically, but most of them is just not the nicest place to spend workday after workday inside.

  • @Mark1024MAK
    @Mark1024MAK Před 3 lety +1

    I can’t remember which brand, but another brand of van that I’ve used has similar doors that open all the way, so they fold back flush with the side of the van. Can definitely be a right pain if it’s windy. But it does make loading and unloading easier.
    I think there may have been sockets that catch and hold the door open mounted on the side (outside) of the van.

    They don’t put the bulbs in and use the lower lights because of the bucket, you can see the main lights from directly behind, but at some angles you can’t see both lights because of the bucket. Same reason the original Land Rover Freelanders use the lights at the bottom, but that’s due to their spare wheel!

  • @stephenwilshaw3052

    Tom, about the rear lights. It's all covered in the Road Vehicle Lighting Regs, which looks about as riveting a read as the Wiring Regs.
    Basically the bucket could obscure one or more of the original lights, so they have to be moved to the bar below the bucket - where it cannot block someone's view of them. Reg 19

    Tom I see people using 50x50 trailer hitch connectors with a vice mount all the time, on the back of utes in Australia. Couldn't you mount the vice on a length of square section and a matching bracket on the floor? When you need it, you just slot it in, lock it and grind away. In fact I'm fairly sure I have seen folding units which would fit in that space easily. Otherwise love the Sortimo stuff.

    In regards to the rear lights I think it is just the company protecting themselves as The law is a bit vague.
    In The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations of 1989 Under Part 1 of Schedule 10 and 11, Paragraph 2(a) the rear position lamps and rear fog lamps must be fitted "At or near the rear" of the vehicle.
    in the 2017 Amendment to The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations of 1989 Under Schedule 14 will now refer to paragraph 6.4 of ECE Regulation 48 which under paragraph 6.4.4.3. states that reverse lights must be fitted "at the rear of the vehicle".
    And I think it somewhat common knowledge that indicators can be on the side of a vehicle.
    Of course I'm just guessing and it could be for another reason but I hope this helps.
