    Would much prefer doing a job like that in freezing weather compared to doing that in a hellish summer climate. Pipe fitters have to deal with extreme heat in the summer time. My dad used to work in scrap iron and he had to cut scrap regularly and in the summer time in Georgia he would sometimes sweat so much that around the collar of his long sleeve denim shirts salt build up would form. He was a gatorade fanatic and went thru a lot of it.

    • @snowdust5382
      @snowdust5382 Před 7 lety +1

      it would make a longer weld without having to stop, but SMAW or how most know it "stick" is better cuz it cuts in to the metal far better then flux core, so "stick" is stronger for most jobs. this is why.

      15ironreaver seeing as they're only about a foot off the ground I don't think a fall harness is necessary. There's nothing overhead either so a hard hat wouldn't do all that much. I've been on job sites like what your explaining though and yes the amount of safety precautions are definitely up there. Fucking everything has to have a tether line , you gotta wear your hard hat to go take a shit, gotta keep your fall harness clipped on even when your on the dam ground.

      Welding current needs a complete circuit to flow. And it will always take the path of least resistance. So you could imagine that the gloves, slag, basically everything the welder is wearing is an insulator. Whereas steel is great at conducting current.

    • @LightGesture
      @LightGesture Před 7 lety +2

      not worried about shock, there is nothing to be a conduit. you're worried about heat. if it's too hot to hold, you're probably running too hot to weld, as a general rule of thumb...

      It's called a slider, or a slick. You use it so you can easily roll inside of the pipe to back weld, idk about this particular pipeline but usually you only have to weld fittings or engineered bends. ( the really sharp turns in the pipe) because there are usually .780 thickness. But some pipelines want all welds back welded except tie ins. Hope this helped

      Never knew pipelines were welded from inside too.
      Thanks for the answer.

      If youre a welder,you know that they push electrode too much into it,making root absolutely bad, but they make second weld over it.....finished! If somewhere leak something,no problem it normal.... lol buddy you get dissmissal for this horrifiny welding in czech republic. Do they even x-ray welds afterwards?

      but since u weld pipeline u should be using cellulosic electrodes, and since i've not welded with them i do not know how to use them the best way.

      I guess it's a question of which level quality preferred.
      Nowhere in Europe a pressure pipe would be accepted welded on this low level..
      Even on standard building/construction you're supposed to grind between each stick..

      ArrigAutist Comparing Northern Eu with the rest in welding are not fair our standards are way beyond many parts of the world😀 No grinding between passes or atleast clean up... insta fail😁
