  • With the 997 gen 2 911 Targa 4S being a very rare and sought after Porsche in the UK, I simply love getting them in stock and taking them out for a drive in Hertfordshire. This is one I have sold twice now, I share my thoughts on what makes them so special and so popular with prospective buyers and owners alike.
Welcome to Diary of a Porsche Specialist! This is the forty-seventh episode in a regular series of VLOG diaries of running a Porsche Specialist car dealership in the UK by me, Raj, owner of M R Sportscars Porsche Specialist in Hertfordshire.

Loved this episode! I own a 2010 Targa 4S here in NYC, because I can only have 1 vehicle and it needs to be somewhat practical. The Targa is the perfect answer to the city dweller who dreams of owning a 911. I do full film shoots out of mine using a case that extends over the shifter, to hold grip stands! I had mine fully wrapped in STEK PPF with ceramic over that to further urbanize and protect the vehicle. Mine is also Black and was ordered with almost every major option. I can't imagine selling it and will just be my car for life.

Thanks Johnny, sounds like a great unintended use for the super practical Targa format! With all that paint protection the condition will be preserved for many years too! Enjoy it, Raj

I used to see a number of 997 Targas here in NYC but not in the last few years. Perfect urban sports car that lets me do Costco runs and even film shoots due to the hatchback, which for me is the star of the show.

I have a Meteor grey Targa 4S Gen2......its got a lot of options on it, even the air blown seats.....i absolutely love it. I have worked out pretty much every roof noise solution and maintaining the roof with the right products is a must on these cars.

Bought my 2011 triple black Targa 4 on a 60 plate earlier in the year, Really really well speced from new and I absolutely love it, I'm fortunate to have owned some really gorgeous cars in my life, but this always feel special whenever I climb in it ....... If i had to complain about one thing. it's the crazy crazy prices some stealers charge to work on them, no harder to service than any other vehicle, in fact in some areas super easy, but put PORSCHE in the mix and some think that's a license to print money, I've owned garages and worked on race and road cars all my life, so have heard all the "Ohhh you need to change that part" recommendations, some true yes, but many not ! maybe that's because Porsche owners are often so willing to spend where it's not actually necessary, or maybe they just don't know ? .... other than that, an iconic model that always puts a smile on your face and Raj knows his stuff and has an eye for a great car, a true enthusiast, not just a dealer.

Thanks for your insights, great to hear from a fellow owner! Sadly not all dealers are great! Do your due diligence! Raj

I run 2008 997.1 Targa 4S with triptronic. Bought it after a full engine restoration with upgrade parts and is running beautifully.. Actually it is the only 4S Targa in Thailand

Just purchased a 2012 Targa 4S. Only made 76 of these in the last year (2,451 made for 997.2). I agree, they are an amazing vehicle.

Congrats. can you tell us a bit about it - miles, how you found it, options/colors, and why you wanted the Targa?

@@johnnycashlesscomedy8616 it is black/black with painted rims to match. Full leather interior and every leather option. Manual as well. 44k miles. Found it locally here at Grand Prix Motors in Oregon. Was in the market for a C4S and this Targa checked every box and when I discovered the rarity, it sealed it for me.

most of the cases, the rattling sound comes from the wind hurdle (that plastic board that lifts up when the glass roof slides back). It rattles the joints when it is folded in. Solution is to use some soundproof tapes patching the joints with the roof, so as to make a pad of cushions in-between.

Touch the roof when you are seated, you will find, when it's open, right above the back mirrors, comes with two plastic holders, one on each side. Use styrofoam, or tapes, materials of rubbers or whatever is soft, stretching materials and stabilize them in there, then you make a cushion in between. Porsche should have designed it that way in the first place. Hard plastic, no rubber cushions, these materials could expand and contrast along the climate change, over the years they start to rattle. @@johnnycashlesscomedy8616

What’s you opinion on PCCB on non Turbo 997.2? How rare is this option on the S/4S?

    • @MRSPORTSCARSPORSCHE

It is pretty rare, I had a 3.6 carrera with them, original discs and pads with over 60k miles from memory. Brakes were exceptional, once warmed! Raj
