The 2024 Hyundai Kona offers up to 8.3” of ground clearance and has a bolder and more rugged exterior design with a long wheelbase short overhangs and wide track giving it a planted look. It’s almost 6” longer and an inch wider than the previous model.
The sporty 2024 Hyundai Kona N Line models come with N Line exterior accents including an N line grille and front and rear bumpers, N Line badging and N Line design 19” wheels.
There are two powertrain options, a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada, FWD and AWD options are available in the US.
The base engine is a 2L 4-cylinder with an IVT, intelligent variable transmission, 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. FWD and AWD options are available.
One of the biggest complaints about the outgoing Hyundai Kona model is the lack of interior space especially second row legroom. With this new model, Hyundai has designed a larger space with 30% slimmer front row seats to maximize second row legroom. The front row has a floating centre console with available dual 12.3” screens creating a clean and modern feel.
Standard 2024 Hyundai Kona features include, a 12.3” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 4.2” driver display and manual heated front cloth seats. In the US, heated front seats are not standard.
Available 2024 Hyundai Kona features include, a heated steering wheel, power driver’s seat, sunroof, a power tailgate, ventilated front seats, surround-view monitor, blind-view monitor, a 12.3” digital driver display, Bose sound system, a wireless charger and navigation.
In Canada, the 2024 Hyundai Kona FWD model starts at $28,648 CAD, Essential AWD $30,648,
Preferred FWD $31,148, Preferred AWD $33,148, Preferred AWD w/trend pack $35,148,
    N Line AWD $38,148, N Line AWD w/ ultimate pack $41,148.
In the US, SE FWD $24,100, SE AWD $25,600, SEL FWD $25,450, SEL AWD $26,950,
    SEL FWD w/convenience pack $27,650, SEL AWD w/convenience pack $29,150, N Line FWD $30,650, N Line AWD $32,150, Limited FWD $31,650, Limited AWD $33,150.
Fuel economy for the 2024 Hyundai Kona is the 2L 4-cylinder AWD gets 9L/100 km, 26 MPG city and 8.1L/100 km, 29 MPG highway. 1.6T AWD 9.8L/100 km, 24 MPG city and 8.1L/100 km, 29 MPG highway.

No spare tire and jack is a deal-breaker for me. Last flat tire was on a long trip in my Toyota Sienna and the spare tire saved me both money and time. I was back on the road in 30 minutes. My 2018 Honda Accord hybrid has a tire repair kit. Waiting an hour for a flatbed truck is not convenient. If Honda would offer a spare (there's room for it) and jack I'd buy it. The dealer parts dept looks at me weird every time I inquire of availability. Rats!

"Most people don't want to change their tire"... even if this was true the people like me who stop and help people will need them to have some sort of spare to change for them. A "fix a flat" will only be useful in very limited situations and at a bare min the "donut" is a must

It's gone up in price a lot compared to my 2021 Luxury which was $28K and came with powered perforated leathers seats. Extra $12K for the similar level of luxury is another reminder of how expensive things have gotten... 2021 2.0L was the last Kona to have a regular Automatic (before they all changed to CVT) and it'll climb up the most challenging slopes with 50/50 split locked and no sign of slipping. Given that the new one now has a regular 8 speed torque converted automatic, it'll be interesting to see if it's as capable.

Hyundai had all sorts of issues with their DCT's (including the 7-spd and 8-spd versions found in the prev gen Kona and Kona-N's). At one point they recalled/replaced all of them. I'm not surprised they replaced the DCT with a more reliable 8-spd traditional tranny.

Thanks for the review! It’s disappointing that a lot of features are not available in the Canadian version. Here in Australia the 2024 Kona is available with a power lift gate, heated and cooled front seats with driver’s seat memory, heated rear seats, a space saver spare tyre and a sunroof amongst other things. It’s also available with a hybrid powertrain and is priced very competitively. I’ve actually ordered a top-trim hybrid myself and should be getting it in a couple of months. Looking forward to it!

Fuel tank size? Has it increased to 14 gallon capacity? Having electric assist could reserve more fuel in a smaller tank? I have not heard these issues raised. More head room. Smoother outer shell for better fuel economy. This is one ride which will turn heads.

I always like the way Kona drives. That's why I have recommended the original one to many people who want a subcompact SUV. However, I still can't get pass the new styling. Especially the headlights and tailights. The move away from DCT is a smart approach, as its smoother and more refined, for its target audience. Kona N's target audience might be different.
In the meantime, my personal favourite of the class remain Crosstrek 2.5 and Mazda CX-30 2.5T. Their styling is more pleasing too.

Getting rid of panoramic roof was a big disappointment for me. With this high price, they should have included it or atleast kept it as add-on.

DCT is an overkill for this vehicle and is a long term maintenance headache!

Yesss, impressive change for Kona 2024…but I will choose in 2025, between this Kona ….and Kia Sportage or Seltos according to the price also instead my Heart 😂😂😂😊😊😊

I love the 1.6T engine and miss the DCT which frankly gave a better driving experience. CVTs still make me nervous. The EV will be interesting if they price it well.
Same size as the old Tuscon? In there for sure.

LOL, "Hyundai said the majority of people don't want to change their tire" well yeah.. I don't want to LMAO, I also don't want to go to work in the morning. I still think it's a win that the car even has the room for a spare. so I assume you could just option it in at the dealership.

Stylewise, the low head and taillights make it look like both ends of the vehicle are melting and sagging.

The N Line is very expensive, nearing the Mazda CX-5 which is far more premium than this N Line.

What Hyundai meant is: “relatively few people remember to ask about a spare tire before buying their cars”

Crappy PQ pavement notwithstanding, like my E-Kona, that vehicle suffers more than average cabin noise - mostly from the tires and mirrors on my unit.
