  • Roof liner removal: 30 to 60 minutes ($25 / $300 / $600)
    In this video I pulled a roof liner from a Volvo V90 that will be installed in my 740 GL wagon. ALL of the plastic is super brittle so be extra careful.

    I am so thankful for your plethora of videos from which I can apply most if not all of your knowledge to my 1998 S90. Thanks buddy.

    Wow very helpful! Thanks Robert . You prevented me from unnecessarily breaking parts. I am used to '60's Volvo's and I am surprised about the many plastic parts in this car. Having my first 960 (1997). Greetings from Portugal.

    Super helpful video, the plastic in 740,940,v70 and v90 is notoriously brittle.
    Wish you would to more videos with 240's!

    The support at 0:55 is for mounting the cargo divider/safety net right behind the front seats. It's a genuine Volvo part.

    4:03 Easiest to remove the above-window trim first, then slide it over the reading lights/courtesy lights. Once the trim is removed, the light's concealed retaining clip is easily accessed - unclip, rotate and slide the trim through.
    Removing rear-view mirror trim w/o breaking continues to be a superbitch for me 3:27

    Very Helpful video!!, helps tremendously , now on a 95 960 volvo, do you recomend removing fronts seats prios roof liner removal? , i am about to replace/fix mine soon due to a leaky suroof and worn out headliner. :)

    Do you have a video on fixing a leaky sunroof for a "91" 740?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  Před 8 lety +2

      +Ben quinn No, chances are, you have a clogged drain. These sun roofs are not made to be sealed. They let a little water in and drain it out.

    Love the videos, as I've been DIY'ing stuff on my Volvos for 25 years (1800, 242, 244, 740x2), and have an odd question. Do you know if the 940 and 740 sunroofs are compatible? I need a sunroof seal for my '88 740T and they are not available, however the 9xx series ones are.
    Also, I removed the headliner from my '88 740T and replaced the foam/fabric, and it was awful. Most frustrating Volvo project I've ever done..by far. The 13 hour heater fan project in my '79 242 was not nearly as terrible.

    Do the 960 headliner fit on a 740? I think 960 has a different design (angle) on the a-pillars then the 740-940, there for a make the assumption that the roof is shorter. I read it in a Swedish Volvo book about model history but I have locked at alot of 960 cars but i haven't de able to se any difference from regular 940 have you ever noticed any difference?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  Před 8 lety

      +nilsutt From the windshield forward on the '95 and newer cars. Yes the headliner will fit. That's what I said I pulled this one for...

      I wonder why usa vehicles dont have a driver side handle. atleast the volvo has provisions for one.

    • @j0oi88
      @j0oi88 Před 5 lety

      @@austinaubinoe I wonder why too. Is it really only US models? I thought perhaps they did that because the steering wheel might be considered the driver's handle. Aside from use when moving, I think the handle is useful for getting in and out of the vehicle. Likely gonna put one in for that purpose.

    Hey Robert, do you think it is possible to do a manual crank swap on a powered moonroof 740 GLE? Mine doesn't work, and i have heard that they are unreliable so is it worth it to try to convert it to the manual crank style operation, or see what's up with my powered system?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  Před 6 lety

      Huh? Yes you can step back in time if you'd like. The hand cranks are less reliable.

    • @mraiwa1000
      @mraiwa1000 Před 6 lety

      The hand cranks are less reliable? In what sense? I have a working hand, and it is hand powered, so I shouldn't be having to deal with replacing the power switch all the time or getting the motor fixed, unless you have another idea for how to make the original 1988 power moonroof to be more reliable.. thanks

    How do you get the headliner out of a 740 sedan?
    I’ve done an s70, and 850 wagon, they go out the back. Is the 740 sedan, the same?
