Hey Mike,
Strap an Alaskan Sawmill to that 880 and start milling those saw logs you've put back. That will get you into saw milling on the cheap.
so when you are going through a divorce and the judge says to give her half, stihl makes a chain saw for that.
🤣🤣🤣
That's what I need to use it for to chop down the shore tree
Otlicino
Mr Gasmask 8hi)
ms880 fits good in that case
Hi Mike, love the channel,my family were in the timber import business from the late 18 hundreds here in the UK. There were lots of enormous Elm and Oak trees until the Dutch elm disease killed several milions of trees.Around 1950 my father built a saw with a six foot blade powered by a 350cc New imperial motor bike engine and he fabricated everything by hand even the bar and sprockets and had to join two blades as there were no blades long enough to suit.We used it for several years cutting fallen trees but it could only be used in the vertical as it was a four stroke engine then it was black powder to split the sections as there was no handling machinery such as you use and it was all down to muscle power .
U should upload a video and show it off I’d Like to see ur families own built chainsaw
Still remember my uncle running his Mac 125 what a beast
I’m in eastern Ontario Canada and do tree work for a living. I’ve used an 880 before and they are definitely a handful! Nice to have the right tool for the right job
Nice saw. I used to heli log in British Columbia for 13 years and we used to rip logs up to 9 foot diameter using old 088s or 090s,sometimes Husky 3120s. We would use 6 foot bars but you could get up to 8 foot bars if needed. I personally have an old 066 that just motors through wood like crazy. Greetings from BC 😎
I always like comparing US prices to Canadian pricesMS880 - $2214.95 Canadian web site with a 60 inch bar MS880 - $2239.95 American web site with a 60 inch bar That is a huge price difference considering the money exchange is around 25-30 % Glad to see you're starting to get more of your lovely family in the videos .
People that live in California use these we have huge trees here. 880 vs giant sequoia trees here we come!
Buckin sent me over, he says you're good people and that's good enough for me.
I am now the Proud owner of a MS880 I went with the smaller bar the 47" and a 25" for small work. Love the videos
Now That Is A Paul Bunyan Big Man Saw!!👍👊
Stihl MS 880... for the man who feels the need to compensate for something even though he doesn't have to
What a saw! Looking forwards to seeing it being used.
Biggest saw I ever owned was a Stihl 044 with a 36" bar. Loads of power. Used to carry that up into trees. I don't have the strength to do that anymore.
I use the the 290 sthl my self for firewood and works great 😎👍
Good move on becoming self sufficient. I did it 22 years ago . Kits been up and down, good and bad and I wouldn’t have it any other way. May God bless your journey. Rock on
If you come across a California Redwood on your property your prepared to tackle it
880 with a 5ft bar is my everyday milling saw primarily - and gets taken off the mill for the odd felling job - Mill a few sticks into 55" width natural edged slabs and the saws price becomes very bearable compared to band Mills ( that can't fell a tree).
yes heavy and ungainly -- but it excells in its niche.
I have a 066 made in 1994 its still getting it done . Love it
Yeah buds, I have an 066 that’s even older but it rips like crazy still. Love the old saws.
The intro to this video by your lovely assistant is of academy in value
@@Morgansunleashed Your welcome. I love watching you guys, its of better value than TV
@@Morgansunleashed they don't make them like they used to but damn you're lovely.
@@Morgansunleashed you're welcome. Do you have your own saw?
Thumbnail. Can see you’re putting what you learned from your trip to CZcams into practice.
*I custom built a husqvarna 3120 which is close to the same specs as this saw. I ported the cylinder, muffler and advanced the timing and let me tell ya, this this is a beast. I can lay down on it in the cut and it won't bog down.*
Lot of chain to sharpen 😊
I own this saw, its a monster. Its just to big and heavy for most jobs. I bought it to rip through locust that fall on my farm and sit a few years before I can cut them up. Also have the 441 Magnum and the 880 doesn't cut any better, it just allows for longer bars. I run both with carbide chains. The 441 is my go-to for tough jobs. I only use the 880 which has a 60" bar if I have to fell a really huge tree. As time goes on, you will agree with me. I've had mine now for several years. I carry the MS201 in the truck with me most of the time. It's the most versatile and will do anything you want it to.
I commented before I heard you say the saw is a loaner. I just saw the 880 and from what I know about you from your videos, thought it was overkill just as its overkill for me.
Great video Mike and Melissa, really looking forward to seeing that thing in action. wanted to point out when you were listing your reasons why someone would buy that big of a saw, you left out probably the number one reason people buy that saw. Milling. with all that power and a 60 inch bar, you can make some amazing slabs. tables, bar tops.. ect
Yup, thats why I bought one
When he started it, I thought I was at a dirtbike race in the '80's :)
great video! thank you for this
if you cut enough firewood on a weekly bases who needs crossfit !! right Mike hehe
jfbadboy09ct Fact!^^ lol
You're such a nice family.
You can always ride that thing to work.
Love that saw power is good.I am very new to all of this smart phone stuff
What a beast. That saw would wear you out if you had to carry it through the woods much. Sounds just like my old two-stroke dirtbike from the 70s. That a huge two-stroke. Enjoyed the video Mike. Merry Christmas.
Ladies always love a Magnum.
Love big bore saws. And I thought my 660 sounds great. Awesome
Love my ms460 but excited to see what this mega saw will do..!! Note sure my back could handle it for very long??
I have a set up similar to that with the 440 for cutting slab bundles. Cut through the entire bundle without having to walk around the other side to finish the cut. Much faster. Great video mike and team.
Hello how are you doing
expensive but badass saw but smokin' saw, thx for sharing
Girls do cross fit, Mike does Firewood Fit, Tractor Fit and Chainsaw Fit
I have a 090 that's sits around. Love it
Dang she’s a keeper
Wow, the sound of that saw at idle is dreamy.
Big saws kickback less for me anyway.
I have a husqvarna 395xp and its all Rock n Roll.
Man I don't know what's prettier! That 880 or her! You are soo lucky to have both bless you both!
I have the same saw on my Norwood PM14 Chainsaw mill, it’s certainly a monster. I have a 24” bar on mine.
Great video. Just bought a new 661 to buck up wood we get from tree services. I split it with a black splitter auger on my bobcat excavator. Big saw really commands full attention and respect!
I just ran across this video today. The biggest saw I have ever ran across was in 1969 after Hurricane Camille. From one end to the bar handle was almost nine ft. It was used to cut up the huge live oaks in Hancock County in south Mississippi. It took to men to handle it and a three eighth file to sharpen it I ran it twice; my first and last time. Never saw one like it again
yall make a beautiful family
Sounds like my old cr80 dirtbike!!👍👍👍
Holy cow! Do they have a kick start option. The sound of that motor at idle gives me goosebumps
Sounds like my old ktm 125 dirt bike 😂
It sounds like my 80cc Suzuki lt80
That sounds like a old school two stroke dirt bike. I love it!
Good saw for chainsaw milling!!
nice saw anther great video ,thanks an GOD bless from il
It is truly a Beast !👍😳
Lol! “It’s like cranking a dirt bike with a pull rope”
Just bought one with the 59” bar for slabbing wood for countertops
I think Melissa showed pretty good driving and shifting skill. Hope you consider making up some T-shirts with both dump trucks on them. Thanks for the video!
Ever logger. 70 cc or more!! I was at my local dealer and I did check it out. And more .. love my husky 371xp.. it old but it gets it done! NC MOUNTAINS ❤!! 👌👍...
I have several trees like that on my 2/3 acre lot and unfortunately they are a lot closer to the house than yours. Very impressive, thanks for sharing this video!
Melissa, "Do you want me to hold the camera too?" ROFL! I laughed out loud when I heard you say that.
Hello, the company STIHL is not far away from us :) Just come to Germany and I will show you Waiblingen. Greetings to the family and a nice Christmas. Greetings MARIO.
I just found your channel and love it. You're a great couple and family who obviously love each other. Keep up the good work!
Reminds me of my 084 with a 41 inch bar. It was BADASS. Getting too old for that kind of fun. Do miss running it.
an ms-661 with a lightweight 32" bar is my go to for big logs otherwise I run a 25" bar on it and it sings through wood
Chainsaw milling will definitely break that saw in in no time. Come on give it a go.
Good video folks. I'll have nightmares about you all operating that saw on those tiny trees. I'd like to make a few cuts with it myself but felling with that monster is out of the question with these old bones.
Merry Christmas to you all, Hunter included. When you all were lining up I thought you were sending out a Christmas "CARD" Video picture of the family??? A photo bomb with Hunter would be nice. Thanks for sharing.
I was climbing a tall eucalyptus tree and the last cut, 20 foot up the trunk, with my spikes in, I needed to exchange my MS 660. 25” bar, for a MS 880 4’ bar.
I cut in a shallow scarf
From the left side.
Then I had to do the back cut, spiking around either side to span the 6’ diameter.
Only time I’ve ever needed to climb with a Saw larger the a husqvana 394.
I really hope that this means that you will be making some chainsaw milling videos. Granberg should definitely team up with you.
Love the way it sounds monster saw,I have a Ms 180 found the afford the880
Good stuff enjoyed that, very large chain saw
I climb for living, the 880 is a sweet saw! I’ve got a 660 with a skip tooth 36” bar. But in one year I of tree work I’ve fallen and bucked at least 12 trees over 4’ DBH. And 3 at 5’+ DBH
Definitely have a need, but there’s so many things to spend money on in tree work! I’ll get one someday. Love your family values my man, keep em comin!
Melissa Morgan I forget this is your whole family‘s channel! Really dig what you guys are about!
I climb also i cant afford it god kids bills keep working ill get there
I like looking at that:) And she has a sense of humor. Your'e a lucky man and may be she's a lucky woman. Hey I just saw the kids. Good job on that too.
The "Ole Painless" M 134A of chain saws. Jesse Ventura would be proud.
Ran one for years falling big cedar. Never used the compression release or chain break. To be honest I much preferred the 660 mag with a 3’ bar. The 660 run a 3/8 chain and is much lighter and cut just as fast.
you probably just suck on the muffler don't you?
?
I think the landscape looks very nice great job Mike.😊
Awesome chainsaw keep up the great work I enjoy your daily videos
I really enjoy your videos! I'm new to your channel but what I've been watching, your family is very positive material and attitudes. Keep growing and enjoy life. Thank you.🙏❤️🇺🇲
The real advantage is on a nice day you can ride that saw to work.
This saw cuts through trees. And trucks. And buildings. And....
MONSTER of the monster's!!!!
It is lick what they used in the old logging day when there was real old growth trees. It would be amazing to see them.
Stihl's current professional saws from smallest to largest are 201T, 261, 362, 441, 462, 500i, 661 and 880.
Just about any saw can be a professional saw, depends on who's using it.
You missed several. And the pro saws start with. The 31
@@jeremyhall3730 , that is no longer a current saw.
We have several very large trees down on some of our property and I needed a bigger saw. I looked at these but settled on a 661 with a 36" bar as the 880 was another $1,000 more in price and just couldn't justify it. Great video though.
Melissa, you missed a great opportunity when Mike started talking and guessing about the length and girth of the lumber!! (-; Nice saw, little large for southern MN also. Great video!
Your description is accurate..it is a beast of a saw..and I thought my 24" bar was big.
Life is good in most all situations with a 661.
Sounds like my son's YZ 125 at idle....loved my 034 av for years looking for a new comparible saw from Stihl.
You know there's people out there that would use that to trim tiny fruit trees.
Wow, What a saw!
First guy in history to ever under estimate the size of his tree...
The 880 is a great saw for sure. Make sure you try the 660/661 before you buy...... I promise you you’ll end up with a that.
Okay I'm going to be the guy that asks.
How come the 660 are better? Thanks
@@danpinkner4225 they don't weigh as much and they cut just as well
Dan Pinkner The 880 is an absolutely fabulous saw. However the power to weight and anti vibration were the seller for me. The 660 is just a lighter more comfortable saw when you’re running it for hours on end. The 880 is so powerful and heavy that it just takes a toll on you. The 880 was great for felling. But once the trees on the ground, it’s far easier to swing a 660 with a 36 inch bar.......
Love it ty for sharing it 💜💞🍦💞💚
Can’t wait to see you use that big monster
I have a 660. Good enough for me so far.
Good video brother. Love you guys positive energy .
Great saw guys even a girl could use it keep it up
Those saws are interesting for sure. But more for an occasional job then something to use everyday. I have an 084 (the older version of the 880, basically exactly the same) and i cant remember the last time i had to pull it out. My 372xp is more then enough for firewood and if im removing a large tree and want longer then a 20 or 24 inch bar then the 395xp comes out. But that old 084 is still a fun saw to pull out and show off. Makes you smile every time :)
Love your channel Mike, Merry Christmas to you and the family!
Would love to stop by and help you cut some firewood some day.
Wow what a humongous saw. When I was falling timber I had an Stihl 056 magnum and a Stihl 066 magnum. Those are big saws but this one dwarfs those. lol. I would love to run that one. Just to feel the power. Wow. Enjoyed the video. Thanks 👍👍👍❤️
Hi Mike & Melissa,
This was a very interesting video. I like when Melissa postures as a big muscle woman!
If I may, I wish to offer a few supportive comments.
I have been an arborist since the '80s, and have a background in forestry.
I like the way you measured the tree diameters. And you used the right verbiage, "diameter." All you are lacking, though you were close, is that in tree work, diameter is measured 4.5' off the ground. This is called "diameter breast high," or DBH. Only in case of very odd tree configurations is the diameter taken elsewhere on the trunk. So it is always at 4 1/2 feet above the ground.
I just want to say that my late wife and I lived in the East for three and a half years, to care for her grandparents. We were in NJ. But we did get out at times to see DC on an anniversary trip, to see relatives in Gettysburg, and to poke around in Lancaster County.
But with my interests in forestry, we especially enjoyed going to Milford, Penn. There we see Grey Towers, the home of Gifford Pinchot. He was America's first forester. He helped organize the U.S. Forest Service around 1905. And later on he was governor of Pennsylvania two times. And a friend of Teddy Roosevelt. For these and other reasons Pennsylvania is my favorite eastern state.
So I just wanted to throw a few things your way. By the way, Lufkin and a few others make "diameter tapes" for measuring trees. And that is important in forestry. These measuring tapes may have more than one scale on them, and the diameter "inches" are 3.14 inches wide. The Lufkin D-Tape is about as big as a stack of three old silver dollars. So it's easy to carry around. But there are bigger ones, the ultimate being from Spencer.
Keep up the good work, and I appreciate the explanations you give for things.
Michael Dougfir.
Great comment, Thank you
I was hoping to see you use it. Enjoyed the walk and tree measurements. That large fir tree would make a gorgeous Christmas tree but looks almost as big as a house.
It has another use you did not mention, put a 20 inch bar on it and then flat file the chip height bits down a TAD and you have the fastest firewood slicer.
