Wow.. everyone is obsessed with the temporary belt. For short runs with the engine benched it's actually overkill anyway.
I had a temporary wooden piston in a car for 6 months once while the new one was in the mail. It worked fine as long as I drove with the grain.

pachy444 What do you mean a wooden piston?did it seal at all?

It was evidently a crude way of getting a temporary seal (against losing all the oil out the port) if the vehicle just had to be driven but had holed a piston. it would not be firing on that cyli obviously.
another bodge was to leave out the piston & rod & wrap the journal to hold the oil pressure. ... I've tried none of these myself. lol

Excellent vantage point of the Rover 3.5L V8. Although, your application is not relevant to me, seeing the engine running, outside of the vehicle....is important and helpful. Thank you

wow! nice engine with proper sound! why not using the EFI instead of strombergs?
Having the same 3.5L engine, but with one carburetor - have some questions left without answers (since it turns to be a rear model, most enthusiasts run injection systems these days). What are those hoses from the rocket covers to strombergs? What is that U-shaped large hose above the flying wheel? Does it go from the carburetor to the inlet manifold? What is another black pipe next to the fuel-filter pipe? oops

I thought these made very little horsepower, now I don't care much for bhp but that being said what is it making? Love that sound!!

Well the 3500cc one here from factory made around 140hp and the bigger 3900cc made around 160 to 200 depending on of it was carb'd or efi

    • @krookdfinra

Really thats all you need. A pair of panty hose can act as a belt in an emergency. Granted you wont be able to make it far or very fast, but it may just be enough to get you off the side of the road. The engine doesn't care what type of belt material thats used as long as there is tension on it and it holds a shoe string could work in a pinch even.
