The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to vote Thursday on the Palestinian Authority’s request for full UN membership, which if approved would de facto recognise Palestine as a state. The majority of UN member states already recognise Palestine as a state, and Israel’s war on Gaza has reignited more calls for a two-state solution.
The Israeli government opposes Palestinian sovereignty, but all eyes are on the United States, which could use its veto power to block recognition.
So what can be expected from the UN Security vote on Friday? And could recognition of a Palestinian state bring about an end to the war?
In this UpFront Web Extra, Marc Lamont Hill talks to Columbia University Professor and Special Advisor to the United Nations Jeffrey Sachs about the upcoming UN vote and the future of Palestine.

I saw a video of a 8th year old boy in a Gaza Hospital whose parents were killed in a israeli air strike and who lost both his legs as they were amputated.
The hospital is existing on diesel generators as the occupiers shut down the electricity.

@@mohsinchoudhury1078I listened as well to the last words of a Palestinian child trying to call for help as her and her family was wiped out by Israeli gunfire. When the ambulance came to try and answer the call, they shot the ambulance too.

The two state solution was proposed by UK supported by US. Yet they helped Israel established a state on the area the United Nations had proposed for the Jewish state, as well as almost 60% of the area proposed for the Arab state. Israel probably never wanted a two state solution and wanted all the land. Israel has fought wars with most of its neighbors and even invaded most of them - Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon and even Morocco and Algeria. US and the west probably never really wanted a two state. It is more talk than action like their human rights.

Please elaborate on how land is acquired by a group of people. AFAIK, prior to the end of WWI, the right of ownership by conquest was pretty much accepted. After that, there was a lot of dispute between folks going with self determination and de facto control. Neither of these favor the concept the Palestine should get all of "its land".
