    Another good one Jaw Tooth. Some real rail fanning material was captured. Again thanks for capturing my home town. When I was 4 and 5 years old, grew up right across from the Depot on Crawford Street. That was when trains crossed East/West, the old Big Four/Pennsylvania. Memories. I guess that’s why I love trains. Thumbs up Son!

    Last time you were there a truck went around the gates and this time it sure looked like that school bus didn't stop to check for a train. It had quite a bit of speed when you panned to it

    • @jackiebrown6845
      @jackiebrown6845 Před 2 lety +1

      I, since the bus didn't have any kids on it, the driver had the attitude that he didn't have to stop - which is not true. Federal law states that buses have to stop at all crossings (even abandoned ones) before crossing, regardless of whether it is carrying passengers. Perhaps he did a quick look around for police cars as he was approaching the tracks.

      Ex B&O and this entire used to have them up until about 2014 when slowly but surely they started taking them out and installing the Darth Vader signals to be Positive Train Control compliant. I just don't see why they couldn't retrofit them to keep the CPLs.

    The 2 different size rails on that spur create an artificial banked turn around that curve. The larger rail sits on the outside while the smaller sits on the inside. It was cheaper to lay the uneven rails than to rip up the tracks only to grade if for the curve and lay new ties and rails.

    That locomotive is a GP39-2. Very rare unit on CSX as they had 20 (I believe) and all are former Reading units not wanted by Conrail upon its formation. They went to the D&H after Conrail disposed of them, eventually becoming Guildford locomotives. CSX acquired them when CPRail acquired the D&H from Guilford, as CPRail didn't want them. They are now appearing across the CSX system after being confined/sequestered for years in Florida.

    I really enjoyed that video! It reminds me of the old industrial towns in NJ where I grew up. There are plenty of old lines and former passenger stations in NJ like that as well. Many are still in use. My favorite is Roebling NJ where the steel for the Brooklyn bridge was made and shipped by train from the Roebling plant. Many old lines from that era are still there and some still in use. I think you'd love to film that old stuff there Jawtooth. It's cool to see all that old stuff and then see a modern CSX train rumble through Roebling on it. Merry Christmas Jawtooth!

      That orange and yellow paint scheme you see there seems to be the standard Genesee and Wyoming Corporate design. G&W also acquired the Providence and Worcester Railroad as well as the New England Central Railroad (formerly, the Central Vermont Railway). Then, G&W insert that Railroad's black letters in the seen location, hence, I have seen the black letters NE CR and a P W painted in those spaces. For their Huron and Eastern Railroad they have painted in the letters HE SR in place.

D & H was aquired by the Guilford group and again renumbered 370-19. Guilford reported run D & H into bankrupcy in 1990 and CSX wound up with all 20, apparently alive and well.

    Well, that does it! I'm going to try to buy that B&O station in Troy and then have it converted into a residence. It would be a really tasteful looking home to live in, although the neighborhood may not be quite the best. No problem - just add a 10,000 volt electric security fence. Basically, surrounded by rails and plenty of room to build a large outbuilding for hobbies and such. It would be a beautiful structure as a residence. Remove some gravel; add some lawn and shrubs. Nothing to it except mucho casho. I'm just dreaming.........
    More realistically, I do love that two-car garage with the dwarf signal right outside the doors. Thanks for another good one, J.T.

    That whining of the wheels on those rails is an indication that the rails were recently ground

    JT, I don't quite know what you mean when you say, "train knocks down signal", could you please enlighten me?

      It's when the train passes the signal and it changes from green to red.
      Like someone has stated on here it comes from the days when the old semaphore blade signals would actually drop when the train passed.
      Look up semaphore signal to see an example of one.

      It means the signal changes from green to red as the train passes.
