@@thorneradel4764 She was sick and 62. I could hit a lot when I was in my 20's and 30's. It's an entirely different thing to do that when you are 62. When I was in my 20's I had no break and could go from low base straight up through falsetto and hit the second highest F on the piano. It's not what we could do. I can't even sing anymore, but that's not the issue. The fact that Nancy Wilson can do this at her age and blow away a 100 person choir is testament to what she is still capable of and it's...Amazing!

So… Ann was very nervous to sing this song. Afterward, they were back stage. Ann asked Robert if they did ok. Robert said that he wanted no one else BUT her to sing the song and he was proud of her. There are a couple of things about this performance that had me choked up the first time I saw it. First of all, the whole performance itself was epic and they obviously went out of their way to make it epic. A full choir? Anne and Nancy. And can we take just a moment to appreciate the balls on Shane Fontayne to step out there and play that lead in front of Jimmy? Add Jason Bonham on the drums to the list of awesomeness. Aside from all that though, back in the day when Led Zeppelin was popular they took a lot of heat from certain political corners as being a satanic band, blah, blah...And there was always the rumors of back masking satanic messages in that song, so to see them give that tribute at the Kennedy Center, in front of Obama and half of Washington, meant a lot. At least to me.

You got it right brother. That was John Bonhams son Jason playing the drums. You are also correct on the hat that he was wearing was a John Bonham trademark. If you re watch it you’ll see the entire choir are wearing that style hat to pay homage to him.The part of this video that gets me in the feels is there is a shot of Robert Plant and he is actually shedding tears. One of the best live performances I have ever witnessed

Not only did they absolutely nail it, but to do so in front of a star studded audience including not only the President (Obama was the encumbent when this video was made) but also the gods themselves... absolute stone cold magic and the perfect tribute to Led Zep. And the smiles and tears from the surviving members of the band are the perfect tribute to Heart's performance.

I was a teenager when this song came out. I have easily heard it 2500 times or more. I have seen this clip, easily about 30 times. It still gives me chills and makes me cry every single time. Her voice is impeccable. The orchestra, the choir, Nancy on that acoustic guitar, Jason Bonham on those drums paying a most fitting tribute to his father. Not one wasted note. This is what perfection in a live performance looks and sounds like.

It's a brilliant performance, not the least of which because Anne's voice is held up so brilliantly all these years. Hart had a pre-existing reputation for covering Zeppelin songs all the way back into the 1970s, and doing them very convincingly. However I think this is the first time they actually had Bonafide Zeppelin second generation blood in their band in the form of drummer Jason Bonham the son of Zeppelin's deceased drummer John Bonham. Dude plays his ass off on this as well. Really heartwarming. No pun intended.

Studying Robert Plant, you just know it's him because of the smile and that curly hair that still falls down a bit over his forehead. This performance is one of three of my favorite live performances - alongside Queen's "Someone to Love" (live from Montreal in '81) and Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon" when they performed it for The Midnight Special in 1976. But, yes, Heart killed it and you have to have a certain type of voice to sing this song and Robert and Anne have it (obviously).

Heart is one of Led Zeppelins favorite groups which is why they were asked to sing this for them to honor them for this tribute. John Bonham was their drummer, he passed away. His son jason is the drummper for this song, and jimmy paige, the one with the silver pony tail wrote this song.

  • @gibsongirl2100

They were being honored for their body of music, not just "Stairway. If you get a chance to watch the whole tribute, there were a number of musicians who paid tribute doing various Zep songs. The Heart tribut was over-the-top amazing! That was John Bonham's son playing the drums - his dad would be so proud of him; I know that the members of Zep are - he's toured with them. Fun fact: Robert called Jason Bonham to tell him about the award and invite him to join them and he declined, saying that had something else going on. Robert was a little hurt and surprised by his refusal, because they were really looking forward to it and the Kennedy Center Honors are a pretty big deal. They were surprised and thrilled to see him on stage - there are other videos showing their reaction to his being there - unfortunately, you happened to watch a version that left a lot out.

Then Kid Rock performed "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "Ramble On". Next came Lenny Kravitz with "Whole Lotta Love". "This is a masterpiece"! Spot on guys, you hit the nail on the head with that comment.... When John passed away (I think in the mid 70's). Zeppelin by and large disbanded as a touring group (there were a couple tours, but Robert stated it was never the same without his close friend). Plant took Jason under his wing, and treated him as his own son. Prior to this performance, Robert invited Jason to attend this in his father's absence. Jason, already knowing about this set, used the excuse he had another commitment for this evening and sadly declined! Had the video had just another minute, you would have seen the surprise when Jason climbed in to his kit!
So for me, I normally do not enjoy "covers". But I do have a "Holy Trinity", when it comes to rerecording. This obvious epic. Bad Wolf's cover of the Cranberries Zombie, which Dolores O'Riordan was set to perform on and literally died the night before recording! I strongly recommend if you have not covered Bad Wolf's version, do the original again first, then the cover (it adds perspective)!!!! And finally, "The Sound of Silence" by Disturbed, (the original was partially a statement about the assassination of JFK, and that doesn't translate well to this cover, but the rest of the message is delivered in spades).

I was 12 years old when I found Led Zeppelin with their album, The Song Remains the Same. I fell instantly in love with Jimmy Page and his awesome guitar!! All my friends fell in love with the lead singers of the bands while I swooned between the lead guitar, rhythm guitar and bass guitar. I'm reaching level 60 this year (2024), and I recently found this performance/masterpiece... It blew me away! So tonight I've been binging on reactions to this from my favorite reactors.
