- The iconic DC-4 has seen a lot of action across the planet since its first use in the second world war. The brave and bold ice pilots up in Canada use the DC-4 frequently to deliver large loads of gas across the Northwest Territories. But one wrong move when flying in sub 40 degree temperature could end it all.

Soo sorry to hear of Kellies recent passing.... Arnie too...although he passed a couple years back. Man do I miss ice pilots.
Me too, I really liked her but it was Jan 2017 that she passed, not sure about Arnie though.
Hahhaha I love how Audrie says "some guys think I have advantage because I am a girl. But if I get offered the cockpit I'm gonna take it." wow you cold :D lol 😂
This is bittersweet. Arnie and Kelly were my favorites on Ice Pilots NWT. Now I just learned that both are gone, so sad to know they are no longer with us. They both were such great human beings. May their memory be eternal.
they died??
Arnold “Arnie” Schreder died May 5th 2012.
This episode is from season 1. There are seasons 1 to 4 with Kelly in them. Just to see that smile and laugh one more time.
@@andrewfrodo2086 oh damn. Everyone loved Kelly…what happened?
@@iamra_n3189 she died. RIP Kelly.
Arnie's 37000 hours is pretty well untouchable nowadays. The last group of pilots doing 30000 plus something hours were the DC-8, 747, 707,L1011 captains back in the seventies and retired in early eighties
My father was one,his favorite plane was the l188 lockeed Electra,he flew all the way up to his last day he really loved it!me too)
James had a helluva job changing that tire in that awful cold. All credit to him!
Buffalo Joe Mcbryan and his fleet of war birds is a through back to the golden age and by gone erra of flight . Arrnie and Joe both legendary aviators and Canadian icons . I was the world's biggest fan of this Tv show because it brought his little known airline into the lime light for millions to see. Joe Mcbryan will always be the king of the north . R I P Arrnie
I love to watch these cool old planes. I live in NW Alaska and we seldom see big prop planes anymore.
I spent part of my childhood growing up in Brooklyn NY between 2 major airports (KJFK (formerly Idlewild / New York Airport) and KLGA (LaGuardia)). Back in the late 1950s and early 1960s I saw (and heard) many old piston airliners rumbling overhead. A lot of Lockheed Constellations, DC6's DC4's, DC3's, Stratocruisers, etc.I also remember one dismal, overcast, snowy day in December hearing the thunderous BOOM of a DC8 jet airliner as it crashed into the streets of Park Slope Brooklyn after colliding in midair with a LaGuardia bound Constellation. It was a tragic day. During the mid 1960s I saw fewer and fewer vintage propliners as most of the airlines transitioned to jet airliners. These days a vintage propliner is a rare sight around these parts, unless there is an airshow taking place nearby.
Love this series.
A tough and dedicated bunch of guys and gals.
True Canadian grit.
37,000 hours ... Jesus !
This man should have the Order of Canada.
Kudos to Audrey for having the courage to gut it out.
But, no brains, who would choose to live in a freezer, with no lights half the year?
I love hearing the buzz from those propellers
RIP Arnie and Kelly
When he said "she's about 100lbs soaking wet, about 5 foot nothing" I lost it😂😂
What a pleasant surprise to run across this video.
I first discovered Buffalo Airways in a rather unusual unorthodox way. I am an avid flight simulator pilot and one day I flew a Lockheed Constellation into Canada and I landed at Yellowknife. As I taxied onto the ramp there it was. The Buffalo Airways terminal in all it's glory. . The people who created the scenery included the Buffalo terminal. When I saw it I wondered if such an airline actually exists. So I did a google search and low and behold, I learned that it is actually a real airline that operates up in Canada's far north. From there I discovered the "Ice Pilots" series.
Arnie made the show!
Yes he did and he was my favorite cast member .
Totally agree with Jeremy here. If anything she should have to work harder to prove herself. I've been in law enforcement for 36 years and trust me, it was anything but easy. Once they realized I was not going to ask for or expect anything I didn't earn then I was treated exactly as I should be, but this really disappointed me. I'm not saying this was right but I wasn't going to change my ways for anyone and I didn't have to.
joe is gone also
@@jasonharper2601 no he is still alive I believe.
I love your videos Wonder, but I am still waiting to see a DC-10. The plane Buffalo was flying fuel in was a DC-4.
no one said it was a dc10
@o0O - JD - O0o that is a dc4 not a dc10
Don’t think Buffalo flies DC-10’ s. Too big
@ The Gospel Quartet Paradise they don't fly dc 10's or any full-on jet planes, they do fly turboprops though, I know a lot about buffalo, I've watched the entire show multiple times and I've met Mikey Mcbryan at an airshow
@@Julian_Bolt Is Mikey a pilot hkmself?
i love bloopers,. around 26:30 arnie calls for "lets go green" or something, when in fact, the footage before that already shows the landing gear down.
so happy u posted this
That girl who is determined to be an airline pilot is like my two daughters superimposed. I just know she will go very far in life.
She gets effed by the company...
@@lyndiwilson2334 wow. How sad.
@Joshua Stavos hopefully she does great things where she went next. It was as a flight attendant at a major airline, but who knows where she went from there
Just found ICE PILOTS.
Enjoy all of WONDER VIDEOS..!
Thanks for the UL's..!
Love watching these old video's from the 90's
The series ran from 2009-2014. Great show.
Love this show, saw it it in the 80's
All commercial pilots should have to do a stint at Buffalo so they have an appreciation for all the ground op people that keep the airline going.
I would be happy being ground crew. That would be my dream retirement providing I don’t break any bones sliding off a wing. Those aircraft are miracles to thank engineers and Yahweh for.
@@joshuastavos4376 WHAAAAAAAAT...? You got to be shi@ting me! Engineers

kelly was such a nice person , so sad that , she has passed away
OH MY GOD!! WHAT HAPPENED TO HER??!! SHE WAS YOUNG!!
I'm absolutely hooked ! 👍🏻
Nice views of that bird flying around. The coolest is the view with the blue flame shooting out of the manifold. I wonder if the old man does that on purpose. It's a cozy feeling to watch this show from Texas where it's been 90 and sunny for the past 4 months.
AWESOME DOC
Love your Videos Wonder
Just found this series. Totally impressed with the guts and skill of these folks! However do they fight the metal fatigue that must affect these antique planes? Especially with the extreme temps and the constant work?
Kelly is such a sweetheart!!
Ya, she was a very cool lady. Sadly she passed in 2017. Such a loss.
Hello! Which days do you usually upload? Because I'm waiting for the next Air Crash Investigation episode. Which episode are you going to upload next?
Beautiful video, I just joined the channel. Greetings!
I love this show keep it up

When the mechanic heard that engin start he must Ben so happy to get out of the cold
Unfortunately you can't completely fill up those tanks. There has to be room for expansion of the liquid inside the tank.
great!
Real life Tailspin.
You don't put that pipe like that on top of the forks!! You strap the pipe underneath the forks, then lift it hanging.then in angle you set it inside the aircraft.then slowly slide it in..after that secure it to the floor.
Hillbillies.
The guy is 66 and still flying ??? !!! The limit is 65 !
Its his 66 birthday. He could go on social ßecurity.
I’m earlier than expected
Funny looking DC-10
This was the blueprint of American aviation all the way up to and including the 1990's and early 2000's, BELIEVE IT!
In 1988 I started as an A&P mechanic, with experience, for a US Airline flying B-737's and B-727's, and was paid $13/he, and pay your own taxes, 1099'd!!!!
I’m actually one of the first!!!
And?
Well it doesn’t usually happen…

Well done
The question is, why would anyone want to live there??? 🥶😱🥶😱
I lived in both Nome and Barrow, Alaska, the best answer I can give is, the adventure.
Not a DC10/ A DC4
yeah thatc confuse to me
@@Muyendisbey1815 DC10 much larger and a jet powered tri-jet

4:01 Madagascar's penguins landing flashback.
They needed to give Audrey more stick time... She would have stayed if just given that little bit of incentive.
If she's the better pilot then that's awesome if she's not then that's sexism plain and simple. The person that has the best quals for the job should get it, PERIOD! It should never be based on anything else!
Girls usually get treated badly. Someone needs a break.
RIP
My heart almost pumped fast when the forklift driver screwed up with the pipe. Thank god arnie was ok and the pipe didnt hit the airplane tail.
I thought we were dealing with Clean on some from star trek
I think you guy's mean DC-4 and not DC-10. You might want to fix that title.
I swear baffallo needs more modern aircraft I mean yah having a unique fleet of antique aircraft is cool, but having to have 5 loads instead of just one is not very good. i appreciate the retro fleet tho cool to see DC-3s and DC4s flying still!
The problem then is weight on ice runways and the fact that the airports up there are small so have small runways. The DC4 or Electra is about as big as you can fit. Jets need longer runways and definitely can't land on ice runways.
@@cjmillsnun Turbo Prop conversions, or other turboprop planes are the way forward
I wonder where they get spare parts for maintenance & repair of a 1940s vintage aircraft. Are they custom made on special order, maybe? It's a bit like driving a Model T, isn't it?
they are easily availiable
@@pilsplease7561 OK, that's great! To keep those veterans running!
Buffalo Joe Mcbryan has the world's largest collection of DC3'S and enough parts to keep them flying till the 100th birthday of the Douglas DC3 . This man was visionary 40 years ago and bought every part and piece he could get his hands on . The entire world now comes to Joe looking for parts .
It's not DC4, but one DC3 !
Will there be any royal marines or nah? 🙂
Kelly died in 2017. Arnie died 2012. Joe died recently. Anyone else dead???
Why is the jack too small? Have they never changed a tyre before? With so many years of experience, they should have known to bring a bigger jack.
Its probably all actors but wat the hey 🤷♂️ fun 😸😸😸
Those who think that it's more difficult for women than for men to find a job as a pilot know definitely nothing about this industry...

Poor jermy he just got passed 😭
DC-4 is not the designator for a military aircraft. How about C-54 or something like that.
C 47.
Where Is the Other Narrator ?👀
Not fair to Jeremy
8 MINUTES
Is Mikey a pilot?
Why does ANY ONE live in that mess!!!!!!???
would it be possible to let the engines run idle?
This is stupid. How are they learning to be better pilots?
DC 4 has 4 engine
They need to get better computers cmon that like a Macintosh classic
That they do! Mikey McBryan is here on CZcams and you get to see a bit through his own channel where he recently had a series called "Plane Savers" where they saved a very derelict DC-3 and got it back into the air again.
Imagine a very gutted DC-3, left open to the elements, with birds nests inside, that one is today back in flying condition thanks to the CZcams series "Plane Savers"
@@CMDRSweeper I’m confused what you are trying to say, I watch plane savers all the time

What the god damn deal lol
What? A flight mechanic without much field experience is not too abnormal but having the right spares loaded up with the wrong jack, o
or at least the wrong or NO dunnage to use with the jack to be able to change the tailwheel, that's everyone's fault, all the way to the D.O.M.
I was surprised the spare wheel didn't have a bearing installed.
Heyy
Don't pull an Amelia Earhart Audrey...
I think the filming of ice pilots put a microscope on ops. Thus they are done. Dramatizing the edges of safety will make the authority put you in a category maybe not warranted.
She’s cute though but I love how he’s a hater on her I hope she comes up first then him f jeremy

Too bad Basler BT-67's are 6 to 8 million a piece.
It looks like they are not allowed to use more appropriate oil for low temps, like synthetic 0W20. Too bad, it probably would make it far easier.
Why aren't they allowed?
I want the other narraror, im not watching this
I am a Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor. I would never put up with the abuse of having to be a rampee. That is BS and a total lack of respect of one's person.
Planes are different a DC 4 is a medium Range 4 Propeller aircraft
And a DC 10 is a Longrange TriStar Jetairliner
