- Troops of Ukraine’s Lyut Assault Brigade stormed a Russian trench and captured an enemy soldier during a close-quarters gun battle near Bakhmut. The Ukrainian soldiers from the ‘Tsunami’ regiment were patrolling the battlefield when they discovered the trench. Intense first-person footage shows the men jumping into the trench and proceeding with caution before they attacked. Lyut Assault Brigade is a special police force, which consists of the Safari regiment, Tsunami and Luhansk-1 Battalions. Myrotvorets, Skif and Zakhid police battalions also joined Lyut at the start of 2023 - their motto, Lyut Brigade means ‘turn your rage into a weapon’. The Brigades targeted enemy soldiers during the summer as they attempted to win back positions taken by Russians. In the famous WW1 poem titled 'In Flanders Fields', there is a ine which goes: " ...and in the sky the larks still bravely singing fly, unheeding of the guns below." You get the same thing on the Salisbury Plain army training ranges, the larks and other animals take no notice of the gunfire and explosions. They probably think its a natural sound, like thunder. But I think cats and dogs caught in intense air raids must be terrified.

In WW2 the surrender of a single Geman soldier was so unremarkable that the media made no comment. The surrender of 1,000 might have been worthy of a media comment, but not necessarily. The surrender of Japanese soldiers was very much rarer but still not commented on by our media. Mass Japanese surrenders did not come until the end of the war in August 1945.
We are talking about bigger numbers in WW2. My grandfather with about 5 other British Tommie held 45 surrendered Germans until they could be sent home. Most just wanted to go home, and eat and shave and see their girlfriend again.
What is your point. Are you trying somehow to say that Ukraine isn't in a war as important as WW2, to them?.
Not to mention the half dozen times that it became World Wide news when a single American soldier was captured in Iraqi or Afghanistan.

The media might have decided to not comment on individual surrenders as that would have created too much sympathy towards the enemy, resulting in lowered combat morale, thus it was not allowed to be spread.
Hell, just the story of Stigler and Brown can clue you in that such suppression of information was far from rare.
There's also the fact that information wasn't quite as much of a 24/7 highway as it is now. By the time the media learned that an Axis soldier surrendered, it could have been months after the fact.
