@SemperParatusUK..correct..many people dont bother to check a compass let alone compare..they just assume the needle swings fast and free..and that the needle points to true north..but when you do compare you see needles stick in one place..or dont return to the same point everytime..and when its your butt alone in the deep woods and this is your only hope of getting out before dark..being able to trust your compass becomes a very big thing...thanks for the comment..safe journeys

Say Heah Blackie, I just got a e-mail my Davley Large Compass is on it's way. I also ordered the Wikderness Compass which looks similar to the Davley, But Brass. Both have the Rotating Bezel's, But look like those old pocket watches. I have one now that's a Copy of I think W. W. 1. But it's just a directional and no orientationing bezel.,,.

Two compasses two different readings, pick the one that swings freer

The military grade compasses are shielded that is why it is slow to respond ..... I have the one I was issued with all the NSN Numbers and such. It is also slow to react.

unless you are located with a declination constant of 0 degrees, your compas is NOT pointing to True North, but MAGNETIC North

true but in my part of alabama ...i am on the 0 deg to 3 deg line depending..and you are correct to show the dif between magnetic/ true north / and map or grid north
