Actually funnily enough whenever kratos tried to get rid of the blades they would always somehow managed to find their way back to him. He even tried to drop them in the ocean and right after he tried a storm came where kratos was sailing. When he woke up the blades were right next to him on shore

Apparently the lyrics at 8:33 translate to "exiled god, father’s shame, mother’s hope, wounds remain, confront the past". To see Kratos look in shame, horror, fear, and sadness at the weaponry he used to kill his family is so powerful. To decide to risk becoming that same monster in order to save his son is beautiful. The brands on his arms begin to bleed, as if he is physically reacting to the permanent scar Ares left on him. To top that off, Christopher Judge apparently was so deeply invested in this scene that he broke down during one of the final captures... I cannot wait for Ragnarok.

He is clearly utterly ashamed of what he did with those blades and likely even fearful of what taking them up again might unleash within him, just from how he traces them with his fingers and reluctantly braces his arms, but knows he has no choice but to do so in order to save Atreus.

When Kratos asked Freya "Will you help me?" the face he made was absolutely helpless and vulnerable, a side you will never ever see someone like Kratos display. No God or any other threat has brought him down to this level of despair and desperate need. It truly shows how much love Kratos has for his son. To ask a God, a people he HATES, to seek the Blades of Chaos, a weapon he despises and wants to leave in the past. He put his ego and personal being aside for his son. His development of character towards change from who he was is astounding.

This is truly one of the greatest shots in one of the greatest games ever made. There was so much thought and care and development that went into this part of the game. When Athena calls Kratos a monster, I love the response Kratos gives. “I know, but I am your monster no longer.” He regrets what he has done in the past, and it has made him despise his own strength and status as a god. But he also knows he cannot let it define him or stop him from protecting those important to him. Then he turns and walks through Athena’s mirage as if she is not there to face the present, because for once he knows his monstrous power will be used solely to keep those around him safe. There is nobody to get revenge on, nobody to serve. Just a father trying to safe his son by any means necessary.

The reason why when she said kratos was a monster made me cry is because kratos IS a monster.
A monster isnt a horrific, blood thirsty creature. It is a being that attacks not only thier enemies, but thier own allies, family, and most impotant of all, themselves. Kratos knew full well that he was one, but when he said he wasnt athenas anymore, i just smiled because kratos wasnt controlled by anyone anymore. And that that he isnt trying to be a monster anymore.
Redemption is the hardest path anyone, even God's can ever take.

This moment gives me chills every time I see it. When I was a kid, i used to watch my father play GoW, draw pictures of Kratos for him and admire every little scene of this masterpiece. Years have passed and here I was, watching this scene for the first time when my father played it. My eyes instantly went teary, remembering not only the unforgivable burden of the God of War, but also the feeling of excitement and engagement to the game I've absolutely loved as a child. This game raised me and is one of the best memories from my childhood. I'm delighted to be able to play GoW Ragnarok for my own now, experiencing all the emotions through gameplay twice as much as it was from only watching it. The Blades of Chaos are now tattooed on my skin, and they'll always remind me of the beauty of my and Kratos' past.
