You know it is my belief that oil pastels are the worst medium one can work in. The best work just doesn't make it.
I don’t understand why. Along with gouache, oil pastel is my favorite medium to paint with.

Identifying yourself with a certain painting medium is a limitation for an artist. I paint with many different mediums and my experiences with each of them affect how I use them all.
@LenaRivo I do it all from graphite to scimshaw. Just not oil pastels. Your work in that is as good as I've seen.
I guess it depends a lot on the artist’s personality and inclinations. I don’t like working with black and white, for example, even though I love seeing charcoal drawings and ink paintings made by other artists. To me, color is really important, and oil pastels allow me to physically feel the colors I choose for my work. Oil pastel is difficult to master though, which is why it is not a popular medium. To me, it provides a very unique and enjoyable experience.
