- Hot Wheels Maxi Taxi Restoration - This old 1976 Flying Colors series Red Line Maxi Taxi casting came in the mail recently. It has been kid painted, it pretty worn, had some odd chunks out of the base…but other than that, wasn’t too bad lololol At least the glass, other than having some paint on it, was in decent shape. #hotwheels #redline #maxitaxi

Sometimes we pay so much attention to the real classic Redlines of the late 60's, that we forget there were some very cool castings and designs well into the mid-late 70's. This is one of them. Nice revival. The yellow really pops. Well done!
That's so true Joe! When you really look at all of the Redline castings, there are a lot of them that seem to get overlooked in favor of the Sweet 16. I have another Redline on my bench right now - poor little beat to hell casting from the same source as the Maxi Taxi...and it had a crack in the metal base that didn't go well lol.
Lovely job on this restoration. The yellow really came out great on this one.
Thanks! I'm so happy I had that can of yellow handy, because I really like the color too!
Definitely not too shabby, not too shabby at all!
Thanks so much Fraser!
Lovely. I like this Olds 442. And Im a fan of deep dish. Maybe its the era we grew up in with deep dish Cragar and Centerline rims being all the rage. Those meant the drivers were serious about pink slip drags on the BLVD. 😂
Thanks Don! Maybe that is it - I know some people hate the deep dish wheels but maybe it's what we grew up liking that influences it. Just like I hate stanced wheels today...it makes no sense to me lol
Another great build their my friend keep up the good work stay safe and healthy out there and God bless
Thanks JC! You stay safe and healthy out there too!
Nice Job, Jim Bob.
You've managed, to work in some JB Weld, too....🤣👌
Thanks! Not only did I get some JB Weld into this build...but Thursdays upcoming build...and one that's currently on the bench lol
Always loved the different variations HW used of the Olds Cutlass
It really is a great looking casting!
Great job my friend 👍🏼 love the yellow paint job and the deep dish redline wheels, keep up the great work, take care and be safe.🐐👊🏼🇵🇷
Thanks Mark! You stay safe out there too my friend!!!!
Nice restoration, details and paint job 👌👍
Thanks Joe!
Great restoration Jim! I really like the look of those deep dish wheels from Brightvision 👍
Thanks Jim! Given the choice of deep dish or regular, I'm a sucker for the deep dish ones every time.
Nice Resto job. Came out looking great. Very cool Jim.
Thanks Jody!
That is a really lovely restoration Jim! 🥰🥰
Thanks Summer!
The deep dishes look good on this casting 👍. I’m still at the stage of restoring them exactly how they came from the factory, so I don’t even think of trying stuff like that. Looking good, my friend!
Thanks Brian! It really doesn't matter one way or the other as to how you're restoring them - if you're having fun doing it, that's all that really matters!
turned out great as always. they need bring back the various 442 castings back into production such cool cars
I think the last ones were Hurst Olds with the gold trim over white and Hurst logos. Brillant castings
Thanks Neil! It really is a great casting!
@@nascargasI want that one big time.
Great restoration, brother.
Thanks Gary!
Great job Jim
Thanks Pete!
Nice to see a well done straight up restoration. Beautiful job, Jim. Big thumbs up from Switzerland. 🍁☕👍
Thanks so much Andrew! I'm pretty darn happy with how it turned out. The look of this one is COMPLETELY different than the one in Friday's build...which I'm sure some will shake their heads when they see what I do to that poor little casting LOL
Looking awesome.
Thanks Cecil!
Lookin sweet, Jim! 👍😎
Thanks Dave!
Great restoration. Love the finished look to bring it back. I think your base fix is perfect, if nothing else will give the casting some additional structural integrity. Really well done. Thanks!
Thanks Brian! I'm pretty happy with the base, given what I started with. It's still really odd to me how those chunks were out of it...wonder why someone did what they did?
I really like how it turned out
Thanks Michael!
Love the redline recreates! Looks so good as always Jim! 😎🔥🔥 Need to open a Silva junk shop so I can order some printed bearings!! 😃
Thanks Brian! That "Silva Junk Shop" has already closed due to retirement lol
Decals were nice and i you did a good job with the fine details of restoration. It really came out beautifully 👍
Its like when plastic surgery goes well and makes you look younger instead of a thirsty cat.
Love the deep dish wheels lol.
Thanks so much daughter! I'm really happy with how it turned out non-thirsty catish lololol
Better than when it came out new! Excellent work, Mr. Jim!
Thanks Charles!
Great job Jim 👍🏻
Thanks Mark!
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms you're welcome 😊
GREAT SCREAMING GOAT that's a great restoration! I know the yellow may not quite match for the purists, and the wheels are different in that they are an older version. I just want to say that in full size automobiles that your choices I would consider as "period correct modifications". Deep dish deniers be "darned", it looks like we would've wanted it to. It definitely looks better than what you started with, and you saved it from a parental scrap-heap! Have fun with your toys!!!
That darn little Goat lololol I'm planning more fun for 2024! lol
Came out GREAT!!!
Thanks GW!
That is bang on!!!!! Jim🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Kevin!
That's such a cool restoration! One thing that doesn't make much sense for me is to make a taxicab out of an Olds Cutlass coupe, since there were a bunch of sedans around.
Thanks!
Wow came out better than the original.
Thanks Diego!
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms you are welcome.
I´m again amazed by your great work.
Thanks so much Fritz! This one worked out really well...the next couple builds (next one is Friday) turned out well, but not nearly as well as this one lol. Still fun...and I keep learning as I go :)
A great restoration, pretty sure that taxi will get you where you're going with time to spare, just might want to make sure you're buckled in and have sick bag at the ready, ha ha ha.
LOL Thanks John! If I don't have a bag handy, I wonder if the seats have map pockets on the back 🤣🤣🤣
wheee, fastest taxi around. :D
🤣🤣🤣
Very nice restore that looked so good ,and love the yellow
Thanks Scott! I'm really happy with the yellow too and I'm glad I had that can sitting around lol
Fantastic as always!
Thanks Mark!
Great restoration, Jim! In the new year, I plan to do a series of Redline restos, so it’s good to see one pop up in my feed. I think you made some good choices patching the widened holes and putting on deep-dish tires. It all worked. And don’t have a Silva Drinking Challenge (TM) card, but you had Gauzy, JB Weld, Flitz, and SuperKleen in this video. Some who play are no doubt sleeping it off now. 😂
It's always fun to mix some Redlines into the builds - they're actually somewhat relaxing in an odd way since if it's a "straight" restoration, it eliminates some of the guesswork (what color should I paint it, should I put decals, if so, what decals...and so on). They do have some unique challenges over newer castings (getting parts, freakin' tiny posts, damage) but are really a blast to do...unless it's the one on my bench right now that I've been yelling at LOL
Nice job man 👍
Thanks so much!
Awesome restoration 👍🏽😎
Thanks Armando!
Looks Great
Thanks so much!
Very nicely done brother, It is a great casting and good to see it being brought back to life. You nailed it brother
Thanks David! I'm really happy with how it turned out!
Sweet Resto Jim👍👍🚙
Thanks! It was a lot of fun!
Excellant work. I have couple of these i need to do for my wife, someday.
Thanks Mike! It turned out even better than I hoped. I'm sure your wife would be thrilled if you did one for her.
Redlines need to be Flying Colors
Great job!
Thanks Kevin!
Hey Jim I really enjoy your videos I I’ve gotten some great ideas from you Thank you.
Thank you Ernie for watching the videos!
Werry nice restoration
Thanks Morten!
Great job
Thanks Bobby!
im not sure as i havent seen it in a while, but im pretty sure the maxi taxi that was my dads has some slight holes in the base as well. they might not be as bad as this example but i swear i remember it looking similar. my dad probably wanted it to look more like a circle track car than a taxi lol.
You're remembering it correctly - it has some small rectangular holes by each axle...which is what I was trying to recreate here. The more I think about the damage to the base of this one, it's almost like someone tried to break into the base using those holes...like the posts holding it together were pop--ons on something lol. I'm sure it would make a better circle track car than a taxi, so your Dad was on the right track lol
Love the restoration!! Ready for the next kid to beat it all to hell; great job!!
lol
Thanks! This one will be avoiding kids beating it to hell...unless the grandkids get to it when I'm not looking lol
Mr JB Weld is poster paint !
LOL wait 'til you see Thursday's video LOL
Whenever I use that clear. I do a light wet sand. And light buff. It does it down just enough to make it look factory. Experiment with it.
Thanks Joe! I’ll give it a try on one of these. It’s such a wonderful clear to use.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms By slightly wet sanding and buffing it. It takes off that super wet look and makes it look more. Like that factory one stage paint
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms Please let me know how
Awesome but I never got the two door cab…was this a dodge duster….
LOL well some of these designs aren't the most practical LOL This is based on the 442.
