  • This is a review of the new 2018 Indian Motorcycles Roadmaster, the largest touring bike in the line, made for all out passenger long distance comfort. Overall a very nice bike with certainly some points new owners will want to change or customize right out of the box. The styling is going to be love it or hate it with a strong appeal to the nostalgic. I happen to love it! Quality is high and it hits the marks for the class for sure with plentiful features.

    I have a 2017 Roadmaster that has no handling or bouncing issues. My perception is that there is no air in the rear shock and/or the fork oil is low. Went on a 500 mile ride last weekend and did not want to get off of it, very comfortable, sounds great, heated seats and grips, music, gps and plenty of personality! Not blah like the GL1800 i used to have.

    I have a 2018 Roadmaster. Changed the seat to an Ultimate, so much better.put a flare windshield on it,heel shifter and some other things. I have it set up for me and I love it. I also own a CVO Electra glide ultra and I hardly ride that anymore. The Indian is better handling,smoother all around and the air buffeting is almost none. It's a really sweet ride

  • @icebrakernh
    @icebrakernh Před 3 lety +3

    I own the exact bike you were riding. I don't experience the bounce in a corner or all of your gripes. Mine is bone stock at that. It however does help to adjust the rear shock. That is the difference in the ride. Then again you were on a demo bike that might have had a ton of riders on it. I used to own a Harley Davidson Electra glide and I found Indian to be the better of the two.

    I like seeing these reviews and getting different opinions. I was in Daytona on the 11th and rode the roadmaster, chieftan and springfield. Was intent on getting Springfield until test ride. Contrary to what was said, Roadmaster ready for travel straight off the floor. I am 6-4 300 and it was perfect for me. So smooth you almost don't feel you are on a motorcycle. Leaning toward Chieftan with tall boy seat and extended reach bars. Chieftan best of both worlds, feel like you on a bike but comfort of Roadmaster. Could change to Roadmaster in the end though. Rode Harley's but ride does not compare. Even rented CVO for a weekend (Roadglide). It was awesome, but not better ride for me. May be a bit biased because Indian fits larger person better. Not anti Harley by no means, but for price Indian is better stock. If you upgrade Harley suspension and Engine they start to compare. Of course we talking money now!

      I don't understand how people say they feel cramped either. I am 6'3" and it seems like lots of leg room and reach to bars was good. If this guys ride was bouncy, the suspension was not set up correctly for him. It definitely does most things better than my FTLRXS.

      I am pretty much the exact same size and weight as you 6 ft. 5 310 lbs. and I agree! I bought a 2020 best bike I have ever owned this guy must have got one that was in an accident because everything he says is the exact opposite of what i experienced.

    I own a 2017 Roadmaster and your review is spot on. I don't think much has changed from the 17 to the 18. The rear suspension is air ride and I bet Thats not set right on a demo bike. I do get a ton of dive in the frontend on hard braking but no vibration while riding. Lots of heat from the cat on your right leg, in my opinion it's bearable, and yep I did change my windshield lol.
    In general I like the bike. Great review!!👍 Did you test ride any BMW 1200GS or GSA's? I've been kinda looking at them.

    the rear suspension can be easily adjusted for your weight, and the Ride Command five screens can be tailored to many configurations, including showing which gear you are in. the lowers should have been open to help remove some of the right side heat, and the windshield works best for protection about 1 1/2" down from full up position. Lots of tweaks that you can make to best suit your comfort. As for the dip of the front suspension, I have to agree, new stiffer springs would help.

  • @richgleisner2611
    @richgleisner2611 Před 4 lety +2

    I'm guessing your ride was affected by low air pressure in the monoshock. I had a 2018 Indian Roadmaster and enjoyed every bit of 28000+ miles on it. Now I own a 2020 Indian Roadmaster as it has a bigger engine (116ci) and different ride controls. It is an awesome and comfortable bike!

    Test rode the Indian Springfield today. I was actually quite impressed but I have a few more bikes to go through before I make a decision. I agree with your assessment on the power though but still seemed plenty for me. Good review.

    • @erics9754
      @erics9754 Před 7 měsíci

      Well, I own one and also own a Harley the Indian is a superior bike with none of the issues he brings up that how I know the review is bullshit. If it was a fair review he would have mentioned you could adjust the suspension if it was a fair review he would have mentioned you could option for a larger windshield. He was biased and was out to misrepresent Indians and it had the opposite effect smart people could see through his lies and went to rode test them and he helped sell many Roadmasters lmao!!!!

  • @peterschryver

    Did anyone else notice the front tire pressure on the panel showed it was 12lbs over inflated? Could be why a stiffer ride and more road vibrations transmitted through the front end.

  • @motorcycleden
    @motorcycleden Před 6 lety +1

    I'm surprised you felt it showed its weight in the corners. I test rode one and didn't notice the weight at all when cornering. Maybe the suspension setup is partly to blame? Do you know if the front suspension is adjustable? Thanks for the review

      Strange one guy felt this way while every other review felt the opposite. I am going with the reviews who say it feels flickable and light at speed lol. If one guy tells me the sky is brown and I see it's blue and everyone else says it's blue I ain't gonna go along with the brown sky guy lol.

    I’ve not ridden one but am surprised that it came off subpar on your demo. I had heard how great they were & that they were going to beat out all the competition. I know they aren’t inexpensive either. I thought they had an opening behind the windscreen that was for buffeting reduction. Don’t have a dealer nearby so I’ll have to try & demo one at the AZ Bike Week in April. Thanks for the review.

  • @mrvwbug4423
    @mrvwbug4423 Před 6 lety +1

    The suspension is probably set up for 2 up with gear by default. It must be much heavier than the other Indian baggers. I test rode a Springfield and it hid its weight quite well and rode very smoothly, but it was't set up for 2 up either.

    • @erics9754
      @erics9754 Před 7 měsíci

      It weighs about 70 lbs. more than the Springfield so hardly noticeable. The Roadmaster hides its weight well ignore this review and go test ride one.

    I have been a big fan of the Indian motorcycle especially the Scout and the Springfield. However there is always something that turns you off with the Roadmaster and their higher end motorcycles on how its built, how it rides and i think you confirmed my own opinions on the subject. What I am wondering is how easy it would be to make adjustments to the bike.

    @vikenwellman7888 Před 2 lety

    Sounds like there is no air in rear shocks. Also the numbers for gear selector? I’m not sure what you want? I don’t need a explanation for every item on dash. I’ve had ultra classics, goldwing, and this rides as good or better then those. Other then that your review is ok. Thanks

    • @erics9754

      They do not put out a subpar product i own one and my 2020 is top-notch quality. Watch some more reviews or better yet go ride one it also handles amazingly. I tried many touring bikes and the Roadmaster was better by far than all the other major brands it does not bounce and does not wallow the suspension does not bounce the rear air suspension can be adjusted for any weight of passenger and rider and handles the curves like a much sportier bike. I have the 119 and it scoots. I agree with one thing he says the windshield is slow but it's at least a power one. It is a go across-the-country bike and out of the dealer you need nothing so he is wrong again here all you need to do is get the 21-inch windshield and when you're moving you do not feel the weight. As a matter of fact that was the first thing I noticed was how well and easily flickable this bike was for its weight it handles fantastically that was the thing that sold me on it and so many others point out. So thousands of people are wrong in his eyes something fishy here. He is outright lying and is full of shit and is doing a disservice and even the stereo he disses in his own way is definitely a very biased and dishonest review!!!!! Hey if it's not your taste fine but do not make up stuff to make others think it's junk.
