- Benjamin Hardy wanted to be a professional writer but could never find his traction. After adopting three wonderful foster children, however, he found all the motivation he could ever need. In this talk, Benjamin shares how he learned to turn difficult situations into profound meaning and progress. Benjamin Hardy’s work is viewed by millions of people monthly and is featured on Forbes, Fortune, Psychology Today, CNBC, Cheddar, Big Think, iHeart Media, and many others. He has grown his email list from 0 to nearly 400,000 followers in the past 3.5 years without any paid advertising. He is the author of the bestselling book, Willpower Doesn’t Work. Ben is nearing the completion of his PhD in Organizational Psychology. After years of fighting in court, Ben and his wife, Lauren, recently adopted their three children. Shortly after the adoption, Lauren became pregnant with twins (2 GIRLS!) and is due around Thanksgiving of 2018. They live in Orlando, Florida, and you’ll regularly find them at a Disney park. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
My uncle taught me this, he always used to say to take up work, even if you initially think you won't be able to do it, but once you take up the task, your shoulders will able to carry that burden - and there are no true failures in life, there are lessons that you learn. I applied this in my life and I am doing really well and have come a long way
“ If You Want to Go Fast, Go Alone, If You want to Go Far Go Together" African Proverb
Training for marathons and working more than full-time were some of the most successful times in my life. thanks for reminding of that. Growth in one area begets growth in other areas
Love this concept of the bigger the Why, the easier the HOW. A "heavy" LOAD, and difficult situation forces us to be committed and FOCUS. Without this WHY, most of us lack the motivation and courage to move forward and find the HOW. Love the truck stuck in the snow example. Thank you
"The bigger the why, the easier the how."
This is so true. It's like taking on a huge project that you feel overwhelmed and scared by. The amount you grow and change is unbelievable.
That's the same reason why most of the students are able to study for hours just a day before the exam. The load is damn heavy at that moment.
Good luck, hope all went OK, Bless you friend.
True u describe me
I don't admire many people so my respect does not come cheap; but I have to say, my admiration for this man keeps growing.
It was very inspirational and calming for one who has had though time, who feels extra load and I could really feel connected with what he said about loading the truck.
The insight is phenomenal, and the great analogies throughout your speech make your ideas easy to understand and relate to one's own experience. Ty.
Definitely so true for many of us Benjamin. But some people cannot manage their load. May even abandon their truck. May even flee into the wilderness. Sometimes never to be seen again.
I love this story, Ben. You're one of my favourite writers!
Ben is the best.
Yes, my too.
Currently I am reading his Willpower Doesn't Work book.
@@prasad3670 thank you for commenting, you have just alerted me back to a video I need today but watched 2 years ago!
@@KerryNeeds with the start of a new year you might want to watch it again, so i'm commenting lol
@@musabkartal you legend. Thank you. I do need to. I had a heart attack last year and it’s been tough 😣
Damn true. The load of reason will thrive us towards the goal. And the idea u said "when u go with some difficulty rather than focus on strategy ideas an so and so, let Focus on the load and u will get motivated and u will be on u r traction
Wonderful perspective, Ben. I agree that great purpose/commitment commands us to rise up and be more. It sounds counter-intuitive, but so true.
Wish you and your family happiness, health and love and more and more love.
Ben Hardy, while some of the things you write irk me to a point of incredible irritation, I know that it is because your wisdom is helping me to grow, and growing is painful but fulfilling. Thanks Ben.
Beautiful amazing n great talk . Very inspiring . Thank you, bless you. All your dreams come true.
A quick prayer like " Heavenly Father please help " and here it is, thanks Benjamin. Short prayers (1962 on) have helped me many, many times. Song says "what he's done for others he will do for you"
wow very interesting this perspective. I think it is worth to try this approach. A way of getting out the confort zone, a way out of myself.
Beautiful.very inspirational. Thanks for this lovely talk, it's truly the need of the hour
Sure, Whatever greatness a person may have within him or her, it will develop with responsibility.
The responsibility will show you whatever greatness you have in you, and of course it will transform you in the process.
What he left out of this idea is that the responsibility ("load") has to be taken on almost exclusively willingly, voluntarily. I have put responsibility on my workers' shoulders and because I "gave them" the load they did not feel engaged or responsible for making it a success; they inevitably failed, so I come on the scene and WITH THEM I get it through and done, meaning they could have done it by themselves all along.
This is really great Benjamin, ! THX
Very good insight. Thnx.
Tell this guy not to go wood cutting alone..great talk..kids always bring the greatest growth.

Thank you for this perspective challenges have a way of sharpening and shaping a human being to move forward and be resilient in way that comfort cannot
I'am a man, and while i listened to this talk, I thought about women, and how much loaded they are, and how brilliantly they succeded in almost every field when they have an oportunity.

I cannot believe the foster system is so horrific to make it miserable for loving people to adopt.
what about ace studies?
Anti fragility sums up this entire talk.
Great! Life is school/gym. Everything, good or bad, is an opportunity to train... That said, every time he says "your load".... Not sure what that says about me... No that's a lie. I know exactly what that says about me: I'm a wide load...

These kids???!! You mean your kids. They were your kids from the beginning.
Theresa Andrade what about before they knew “these kids”...what about when these kids were born to someone else...
I came looking for this comment lol.. it's a beautiful talk, but I am sure his wife refers to them as "my kids"
Or using names as a sign of respect...very interesting way to talk about one's adopted children.
Not the best talker but the content was solid. Thanks
