    thank you so much for explaining this Lisa.. I wrote EVERYTHING down... lol Now, is there any way you have the time to explain how to take a quilt pattern that you have gotten from someone else and do the math on how to make it a different size ? Like from a King to a queen size or a twin size to a queen size?? Thanks again for sharing with us.. God bless you.. If you are a mom, I hope you have had a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.. God bless you....

    When i came across a different video i was really confused on why you needed to know the Width of the Binding??? i guess i am still a little confused because if you are using a jelly roll the width would be 2.5 inches. right? or are you saying to measure the length of the jelly roll?? that would be long ways???

    This is what I am sure is an ignorant question but I’m going to ask it anyway because I NEED HELP. Is measuring borders and backing the same as what you’ve shown? I have a book giving ways to do all this but it’s really confusing and math is not my forte. Math is the only thing I hate about quilting or sewing. I have three quilt tops but I can’t figure all this out so I just keep making them. It’s good practice at matching seems etc. I reckon. This is a great tutorial and I am now subscribing. THANKS

    HI I am new to your channel, not to quilting, but I have never made binding, I always do a larger backing and bring it around the front. Works great on baby quilts.....only question I have is 5 strips of binding but how wide is each strip?

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey Mimzy! If you ask 20 different quilters, you may get several different answers hahahaa. I think we all have our favorite width to cut our binding strips. Mine is 2.5" wide. This insures that it'll be wide enough no matter how thick my quilt is :) A lot of quilters like to cut theirs at 2 inches.....this leaves a little less extra flap beyond the final stitching.

      @@TheQuiltmakerHomestead Thanks, as I said I never made binding before and was curious....That goes for anything you want to know, ask too many and you are as lost as beofre you asked.

  • @annamarieh333
    @annamarieh333 Před 4 lety

    This might be a dumb question but I’m horrible at math .. so if you need 5 strips do you times 5 by the width of binding 2 1/2 in order to figure how much material to buy? Which would equal 12.5 in of material? Is this correct? Just finished my first quilt a jelly roll quilt and it’s been sitting on top of sewing machine for 2 months because I haven’t bought binding

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  Před 4 lety

      girlfriend, let's get that quilt finished up so you can enjoy it! Here's a QUICK way to figure out your binding...download the free Robert Kaufman quilt calculator app.....all you have to do it type in the measurements of your quilt, how wide you want your binding to be and tadaaaa....it tells you how much fabric you need and how many strips to cut. It's awesome and totally free.

  • @veronicapricethomas4229

    Lisa, what is the website that has a scale of how much backing to use fir my t shirt blanket? I have 28 tees and it is 4 X 7 for a twin bed at college. I cannot find it. Thanks Veronica .

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  Před 5 lety +1

      Thank you! Yeppers.......same math still applies even with different widths of binding.....what WILL change is the amount of fabric you'll need in order to get the amount of binding strips for your quilt.
