    I jumped in to 10 yesterday with the last EPI of this series her I'm doing and it was a big difference in my opinion. Much smoother mixes. Less harsh I would say to my ears. I heard another review that was not very good and sort of talking about analog gear they were using and also other products. It was obvious he was not into it. I like the reviews he does, but not that one. He never reads instructions either. Sort of just slams into it and misses a lot of "why" things work and the subtleties, which is what you did Sean. That's the detail I look for in reviews. Also your walkthrough was essential in getting me going quicker, as I am on the clock here and had no time to really speak a lot of time with it. Thanks again for the help-:)

  • @stevend984
    @stevend984 Pƙed 9 měsĂci +1

    A few issues...I recently got Ozone 10 advanced to complete my mission of mastering the four albums I have recorded. Needless to say I am just scratching the surface of all the capabilities at my fingertips. But I have to say...coming from the analog world of the sixties, seventies, & eighties, I keep wondering what guys like Steely Dan were doing in the 70's pre-digital with tape decks making award winning engineered albums like Aja? Yes...I'm old, but there's that! I love that digital tech has now given me the chance to now do what was a world away 30 years ago! But as I delve into this software I can't help but think at some point where's the overkill! I've already experienced how massaging one track with one plugin completely throws off these master fxs. It's nice to have all these options and such, but again...flash back 30 years...how many ways can you split a hair? And at what point does a song come to be over engineered? I still can't help but reflect on digital tech going thru the growing pains and now twenty some years later they're writing software to emulate that warm "Analog" sound. That's my world...but I do like what "I" can do to improve on a nearly 40-year old album recorded on a good old Tascam 8 track tape machine! One other thing...I've been trying to get info from Izotope to upgrade from 10 to 11 and their site sucks. No way to contact them either. Your thoughts?

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Pƙed 9 měsĂci

      What engineers were able to do with the analog tools available back then was remarkable, no doubt. Aja is a classic album for a reason. I also believe there are engineers in 2023 using new digital tools like Ozone to do equally remarkable things
 are they the same? No. Both capable of great results, nonetheless. That being said, if the old way is your preference there are still ways to use Ozone in a similar fashion using the vintage modules i.e. Vintage Tape that can sound quite convincing. You don’t have to use all the modules, even the master assistant is optional. Anyway, appreciate you sharing your experience and feedback! My understanding is you can sign into your iZotope account for special upgrade pricing from 10 to 11.

      @stevend984 Pƙed 9 měsĂci

      @@SeanDivine Didn't expect such a timely reply...thanks. I really never gave mention of a preference so much as just retrospective and reflection of the times. No disputing engineers of yesterday & today. My only point really was the overkill/over engineering factor. But the bottom line is results. Really glad to hear your acknowledgement of Aja...masterpiece for sure...and the band wasn't too shabby either. One of my fav's. Good luck getting in contact with Izotope...been trying for a few days now. I just went thru the same thing with IK Multimedia and their customer support really sucks! Thanks

      @@SeanDivine I can only hope...Thanks. BTW...meant to ask before, I've been using Samplitude forever and now that I'm delving into rare charted mastering realms...[for me], I've noticed in some cases using the De-Esser can really help, since I like my vocals really crisp. Now that I'm branching out to other plugins I've been looking to try something other that the "basic" Samplitude offering in hopes of even a slight improvement quality wise. I recently popped for an upgraded plugin package with IK, but after the fact found it wasn't included in my package, but of course I can buy it for an additional $50! I spent some time on the Izo site looking for De-essers but came up blank. Just wondering if there is something in the OZ-10 advanced package I have that addresses this? Thanks again.

      From what I've been hearing about people that are getting signed, they all end up having somebody that really knows what they're doing, the person I was listening to I believe they had a couple of people from the prototypes, do the mixing and mastering. I'm just beginning my production journey, but from what I'm seeing I would focus hardcore on your creating the songs itself creating your amazing loop, arranging it, picking up the most amazing off the wall high quality sounds you could possibly find each instrument whether it's your violin or your hi-hat or kick drum make sure it's the absolute highest quality you could get. And they were also saying that a lot of the mixing can be done on that level anyways just making sure you have the absolute right sounds, super super high quality stuff is what you want to focus on, even if you have to put in some extra money to get, the best vsts like sooth2 addictive drums, serum native instrument packs are amazing from what I can see, landr there's a bunch of other real high quality sample creators, / vsts that will take it to the next level. From what these people were saying any mixing and mastering, in the end if you get signed it's going to go into the hands of somebody that's been doing it for 20-30 years anyways

    Hi Sean. I am working on my Bucket List. I am still learning how to use Cubase 12 efficiently. The only person that I know personally that knows anything about mastering is Greg Ondo and he is a Specialist for Steinberg. I don’t know anything about mastering at all. I am a retired. I am also a former Choir Director/Musician. I majored in voice when I was in college. I want to release my own music to the world soon. I am asking you this question? Will Ozone 10 be something that a beginner can use to make CD or Steaming quality songs? Or will Ozone 10 be something that will be extremely way over my head? I would appreciate your advice if you could tell me what programs or plug-ins that I could buy that would give me a great starting point to learn how to master my own music. Would you also give some pointers as to where to seek information that would also be a great starting point for learning how to master my own music? I need to learn as much as I can and fast. I want my music to sound as professional as possible. I have watch a few of your videos on using the Harmony Engine and the New Waves Harmony plug-in and I have enjoy them all very much. Any consideration given to my request would be greatly appreciated. I wish you continued success with all of your music videos and all of your future musical endeavors. Plus I also wish you continued financial success as well. Have a wonderful day and thank you for making this video on Ozone 10.

      @SeanDivine  Pƙed rokem +2

      Hi Greg! Ozone Master Assistant is a quick way to get you close to a professional result, however, purchasing the plugin with no intention of tweaking the settings and modules seems overkill to me. It’s a very capable mastering suite on it’s own and you’ll get the most out of it with some experimentation and knowledge of the included modules. Another option would be a plugin suite like Waves Gold (that’s what I started with) and I offer simplified StudioRack presets with only the most important adjustment controls available to tweak. Lastly, here is my free mastering tutorial playlist, hope it helps! czcams.com/play/PLQwluYHw-cPFKmlcfU7TfQw52ZFjd5JnY.html

  • @donforbesmusicchannel1196

    Hi Sean,
    I bought an Ozone 10 Advanced after talking to a friend in Whole Foods!😼
    I’m new to mastering and I have a few questions.
    Is there a manual?
    Is there a sequence to the order I do things?
    Is it correct to think that using just the Master assistant and no other tools, the song is mastered? Everything else is improving on the basic master?
    I’ve got 6 songs professionally recorded and mixed in need of mastering. In the past I’ve used a mastering house, but was having a hard time reaching them. So when my friend went off on how cool Ozone was. I jumped. After just using the assistant, I was impressed. That’s why I’m trying to see if there is a suggested order to using the EQ, maximizer, impact etc. what’s first?
    Thanks much! Your video was great!
    Don

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Pƙed rokem

      Thanks Don! I wouldn't necessarily say the Master Assistant is "set it and forget it"... it can get you very close. I still recommend taking time to use your ears and tweak accordingly. There is an optimal order for the modules and it's consistent with general mastering practice. I have many mastering tutorials on the channel where I build chains from scratch to demonstrate.

    Hey Sean, any thoughts on this
why does ozone 10 widen everything so much? I even took the biggest rap song of the year(rich flex), ran it through Ozone and it widened every band to the maximum! What is going on here?? It also boosts a lot of highs and mids where it shouldn’t with the hiphop setting. Maybe the other settings are true to the genre but for hiphop/trap it seems to be way off. What do you think about this?

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Pƙed rokem

      Rich Flex has very little stereo information in the mix, so that would make sense why Ozone would try to widen it as much as possible :) I know there was a bug in the first version that over-widened the low band every time, that's been fixed though. Otherwise, it's not going to get it 100% every time as every mix is different. Some modern mixes are VERY wide and then there's the trend in rap for the song to be mixed almost entirely in mono.

    • @hottroundzproductions
      @hottroundzproductions Pƙed rokem

      @@SeanDivine ok cool, appreciate your reply. Even with little stereo information it seems surprising to max out on the stereo imaging of the lowest band.

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Pƙed rokem

      Dynamic EQ and the maximizer is the better option IMO - I'm not big on compression in the mastering process. It should be done in the mixing process and used sparingly in mastering (bus compression).
