Just did this today worked great I did that and changed filter fluid and put some high mileage trans x in so far so good we moving right along just like we should.
I'm doing this on my 05 mustang right now (had to replace those stupid servo pistons) and the 5r55S version is 120 ft-lbs, then back out 1 1/2 turns. I don't know transmissions too well but it's crazy how different the two are for the torque.
I have a 96 Explorer, 4R55E (older 4 speed one). Runs perfect, I believe the original trans. Thought about doing this - maybe at this point in the game best to leave sleeping bears alone :lol:. The bands usually do in these trans. I think it has to do with servos binding and snapping the bands.
The 10 ft-lbs is important and I am always amazed at how tight 10 ft-lbs actually is. I use the factory band adjuster that I acquired early in my 40-year career as a Ford trans tech
I have a 97 ranger 4.0 the trans has a problem after about 20 mile finding hi gear again I took the silnods out cleaned and tested them made it smoothet and now it will go to 4 no problem but still won't go to 5 until I shot it of for 30 min

Good knowledge. I have the 5R55S in my Mustang. When should you adjust the bands? I can't find a time or mielage interval so I assume you adjust them when you noticed gear slippage in 2nd, 3rd or overdrive?
Around 70k miles or whenever you notice it start to slip, you'll want to change out your servo pistons anyway and you'll need to do a band adjustment. Kind of a pain, but using AJ1E's O-ring servo piston replacements is a whole hell of a lot cheaper than getting a remanned transmission or getting it sleeved.
Hi have ford ranger 2007 ok 3.0i turbo diesel it's shifting hard to 3rd gear I put on scanner it's says code p0968 pressure solenoid C control circuit open If I change the solenoid block and new filter and oil should fix it ? And I do have another code p2008 intake manifold runner control circuit bank 1 circuit malfunction any help will be appreciated sorry for my English and thank you alot for your videos

Which one is the OD band? I have 04 Ranger 5R55E and it is around 3250 rpm at 60 mph. OD button turns dash light on and off as it should, no flashing. RPMs change when pushed. Thinking this adjustment or TPS. Thoughts?
Is the procedure for 5R55S transmission the same? I have a manual saying you have to turn in to 120 in-lbs and then turn out one and a half turn. Or isnt it that precise?
If you have the manual for your particular model of transmission and you are reading the instructions regarding the band adjustment for it then why are you even looking at this video and asking me these questions? I would follow the manual that you have for your particular model of transmission.
i have p0733 on 5R55E, 2nd into 3rd feels like drum just spins then drops back into 2nd. can we adjust band to see if its still intact? if so , then what replace servo and adjust accordingly?
If the band is slipping you might be able to tighten up on the adjustment and get a little more life out of it but changing the servo is not going to do anything. Once the friction material gets burned it’s burned. More than likely you are going to have to go into it.
Hi do you hold the the adjustment bolt than tighten the nuts all the way to the back and holding the adjustment bolt same time correct and if so how many foot-pounds tight the nut

I’ve tightened enough fasteners to know how much 10 ft/lbs is.
Use an inch pound torque wrench instead. 10 foot pounds equals 120 inch pounds.

The only time I have ever adjusted them is during overhaul/replacement. It’s generally not necessary otherwise.

Maybe, but you might have a wiring problem. You’ll have to check that.

My band adjustment square part of the bolt snapped off… can I just replace the band adjustment bolts ?
I can’t even begin to imagine how this happened.
@@76629online was loosening the nut and holding the band bolt with a square 5/16 socket when it snapped

It’s usually not necessary. I usually do not use a torque wrench for these types of activities. Tighten the nut until it is snug.
