  • How much faster does methanol injection actually make your car in a real-world situation like the track or the street? How much does it cool the air charge? Come along with me as we take a deep dive into the world of meth injection! Was the altitude/temp was the same on all 3 tracks? You’re making me smarter with each episode 😊

      That's a good question and I should've mentioned it. The weather was very comparable - temps were within 5 degrees F, and barometric pressure was within half a point. But I will concede in favor of the meth passes. So you can chalk up maybe .3 mph and maybe .03 seconds to that - but really nothing hugely significant to skew the results. I'll pin your comment so others will know. Thanks!

    Methanol is 114 octane if I remember. So when you get cooler air by a 90 f delta it is far denser than no methanol and7 psi . Where the intercooler belongs is before the blower. Prechill intake. Had a friend that had a hanging on ac and it was the same thing driven by the belt . Made summer runs fast , winter not so much.

  • @garagecedric
    @garagecedric Před 9 měsíci +4

    Looking at the logs it seems like it could be a possibility to start injecting before the actual run to cool down the system and all intake parts. Depending on how correct the mat signal is of course, could be a bit heat soaked before the run aswel.

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  Před 9 měsíci

      The only issue would be getting poor distribution/vaporization due to a relatively low flow rate.

      @@AlexLTDLX Not sure that would matter much if it isnt misfiring and the cooling of the system works. As long as it isnt puddling and affect the run negatively later.

    Consider getting Gale Banks data log equipment. He targets where you need and does density.

    I remember when this car had an M90 on it. Lol. My only fear of meth injection is either running out of meth or the system malfunctioning in the middle of a WOT pass. The carnage... Sheesh! Lol

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Wow - that goes WAYYY back. The car has a safety system - if the AFR goes above 12.5:1 for more than 1.5 seconds, it pulls timing massively. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!

    This what i need as i been debating on this myself , berween water/methanol and ATW intercooling or what as i have no e85 near me so i make my own 100octane fuel to run but i still see iat's jump like you had 30-40 degree on a cpl second run and thats a no bueno ... thankfully its a lil built but still ... o n i peak at 30psi 😅 dang 4 bangers can hold some boost now lol 😂.. peace and love bro keep it rad stay safe and build on and i loving what ya doing atm so much thanks and respect brotha

    water / meth allows you to run more boost, so you get more power.
    Add more water / meth allows for more boost....
    You can add as much as 1.5 times the amount of fuel. Your ignition needs to cope and you engine needs to hold together as you would only do this running really high boost. We talk 2bar and above.
    Just add water / meth without more boost, you essentially cool the engine's interior and you can be more aggressive on the timing. You actually have to.
    Just adding it without changing the mapping, you actually reduce power as combustion slows down. It has as similar effect as retarding ignition timing.
    Nitrous oxide + fuel adds power. It also benefits from meth / water as you also need all the knock suppression you can get going for BIG power.

      @AlexLTDLX  Před 9 měsíci

      We actually did run it without changing anything on our dyno test, and it did lose power, but less than I thought it would and we actually gained power under the curve - this link takes you right to that pull: czcams.com/video/b9d5xv9INmw/video.htmlsi=QGqJU801htbtLZFg&t=689

    on my supra I am running a water meth injection kit 50/50 mix with 2 pre throttle body injectors, it covers me up to 25 psi of boost. Then I have a second pure meth kit set up like a fuel system which I use a e85 fuel pump to push up to an fuel pressure regulator complete with return line that feeds 6 individual port runner nozzles mounted near the fuel injectors. I have run this set up to 35 psi all while running pump 93 octane gasoline it works very well. I would push more boost but my clutch some times spins through on high boost setting, once the clutch is upgraded I plan to turn it up to 45 psi, my turbo is a 6870 precision gen2 with 1.32 exhaust housing.
    I very much like your data on the pure meth in the valute, I think I will add a valute injector aswell to lower the charge temp like you did on your car.
    thank you for sharing this data.

  • @AdamOpheim
    @AdamOpheim Před 9 měsíci

    Not saying it doesn't work. I run it on all my cars. But I have a couple points.
    IMO. You should to look at this from a time based point of view. Similar to E85 or methanol fueled vehicles getting frost or condensation on the intakes. That does not mean the air charge is "frosty". This is due to a stationary item having heat pulled from it constantly for relatively long amounts of time.
    Same deal with your IAT. Each time its smacked with fluid it pulls a little heat, then pulls a little more, and a little more as long as it is active. This is your downward trend over time on the logs. It does not represent the temperature of the air charge as a whole. As the air charge is in and out of the motor for a few milli-seconds. So there is VERY little time for it to pull heat from the air charge.
    Boiling point of methanol is 150 which is when the majority of the fluid flashes to a gas and that flash does the majority of the work pulling heat form the charge temp. It also means you aren't pulling the charge temps as a whole down anywhere near what your sensor is reporting.
    If your logs were true, it would mean methanol worked better than intercooling. Unfortunately we know that's not the case. I really wish it were! meth is much easier/cheaper. When you look at the A2W logs you will also not see the giant downward trend in IAT or a giant upward trend. The charge temps are much more consistent throughout the run.

      My next video will compare A/W vs meth - unfortunately, I can't do a true apples to apples comparison because my A/W data is from my old Whipple setup, but both forms of aftercooling have their uses.

    Ha did I miss the ambient temperature? I’d love to know.
    I’ve had to do Google searches to convert to metric 😂
    You Americans you😂
    Amazing how the temps dramatically decreased😮
    I wonder if you could use methanol injectors pointed at the impellers to spool the turbocharger.
    Or even you are already having that effect!
    Might make sense given your times.

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  Před 9 měsíci

      You're right - I should've mentioned weather conditions both times; though they weren't drastically different. It was in the low 60's on both days. Sorry for the imperial units - it's just how we're taught to think here. Though I do find the metric system typically preferable when machining things, but the standard of "thousandths" is tough to shake.

      Yes, by about the equivalent of 1 psi of boost (negative, of course). So roughly 35 rwhp.

    Would tapping into a hybrid's battery be a convenient power supply source? Bad or good idea?

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  Před 9 měsíci

      I would say that would be tricky. Certainly doable, but tricky. I don't know if it would interfere with the cars electrical system with voltage sag under load and things like that. Plus the voltage is probably a bit high but I'm sure as technology progresses there will be ESCs and motors that work with that idea.
