    I got up to 170 mph on a 1997 Black Bird coming back from Lake Somerville, Texas. I noticed the Washington County sheriffs department on the other side of the road. Crap !! The police officer turned on the lights and drove through the grass and came after me. I thought about running it. Good thing I didn’t there was a Texas DPS officer just 2 miles up the road waiting for speeders. I got pulled over and it was a female officer that looked like my wife. I started talking to her saying that my speedometer was off and she told me oh bull sh#t that her husband had a bike like this and he speeds all the time. Anyway she gave me a warning. Much respect for the Washington County sheriffs department.

      ive owned mine 23yrs, never let me down, always starts first time and is bullet proof. many mods available and tonnes of parts. Just be awear of a few things if you get a blackbird. 1, She eats rear tyres like candy if you ride fairly hard, very hard then your tyre lol last maybe a few months at best.. 2, She eats through chains and sprockets due to the very high torque. 3, you will need to just keep an eye on your brake pads more often and depending how you ride, stock shes very heavy so brakes will be a factor with the bird. 4, if your still using the birds linked braking system then changing, bleeding brakes is very differcult to do and will drive you utter nuts, you prob get a pro to do it for you :) lastly the only real issue the bike had was the reg rect, check that the bikes was changed by honda or its been replaced. dont use its orignal one or replace asap.

    Best Motorbike ever made and was top of the range in its day and the Flagship of Honda. She has a twin personalty, theres the nice and effortless, gracefull and smooth low speeds where she plods along and yawn's. But.... Get her up around 6k you quickly begin to understand why it has C.B.R stamped on the bike. Hold on friggin tight because she eats up roads far faster then you can speculate! The blackbird Probarly one of the most powerful bikes to streetfighter to date. Honestly slap on straight bars, Re-gear and 4-1 exhaust system, loose a tonne of weight and shes a lightspeed Rocket indeed... young or new riders criticise the Big bird, But at the end of the day no matter how fast your modern bike is you ant shifting the 20yr old bird from your rear view mirror that easy my friend! Legends are called Legends for a reason and earnt the title and respect...

    According to the info I have found in various websites the CBR1100xx has either 164hp or 152hp, depending on what year you are talking about. The early years (1997-1998) had carbs whereas fuel injection was introduced in 1999 models onward. Catalytic converters were introduced I believe in 2001 and that's when horsepower numbers seem to have fallen to 152hp, although torque remains the same.

    Great camera angle and awesome sounding blackbird! Also good riding aggressive but still careful and responsible. That said top speed for a stock blackbird is 174 to 178 mph as tested by countless pro riders and sport bike magazine editors! I'm talking real GPS verified speed not what it says on the speedo which is always somewhat off on all bikes. With a good tailwind a stock blackbird can go 180mph or maybe couple of mph above that. This all being said the Limited edition Anniversary red, gold, and white bird can do 200mph. Also turbo and supercharger kits for the blackbird do exist. But what's best about the blackbird is they are so smooth! so reliable! very comfortable--VFR800 bar risers help) and make excellent touring bikes that still have good performance. Yes Busa's are faster and corner better.. but they are nowhere near as comfortable and have over 8 major things that go wrong with them. Yes Zx14/R are much faster and slightly more comfy, but are very expensive and a nightmare to work on and keep maintained. No other 1100cc plus, actual sport bike can combine the blackbirds fairly good cornering and top speed with such affordability, reliability, comfort, and cheap easy maintenance. All this combined together makes the blackbird possibly the best, 1100cc and above, Overall, best sport and touring bike ever made.

    Superb bike, superb video! The Blackbird is still the best Sports Tourer ever made. A footnote. The engines are rated to 150,000 miles and are one of the most reliable still. V&M made a tuned version that was faster than the Generation 1 Hyabusa. Standard suspension a match for the best adjustable in their day. With a Power Commander and good cans (or Dynajet kit for the faster 1st carb version) they are a match for a ZX12R and close to a Gen 1 Hyabusa, and much more comfortable. Most put 25mm bar raisers on which will solve your back problem LOL! My daily ride is in fact a 2001 V&M Blackbird and have a couple of standard in the collection (Gen 1 & 2)

    I currently have my third XX and have to say I never considered it a sport tourer and don't believe Honda ever marketed it as such. It's a big SMOOTH sport bike. It may be a popular choice in European countries for taking long trips on , especially when equipped with luggage, but here in the states it's a large sport bike and is rarely seen with a top box.
    I doubt a ZX-14R Ninja or Hayabusa would be considered as "sport tourers", and the XX is in the same category as them ( at least here in the US).

    • @Darkvisor
      @Darkvisor  Před 3 lety +2

      According to wikipedia and other places, they list it as a sport touring bike.
      but potato potato really... it has two wheels and goes forward, lets just call it a motorcycle 😝

      @juliusilori Před 3 lety +3

      Of COURSE it's a SPORTS TOURER!!!!.....EVERYONE but YOU knows this!!!....As for the ZX-14r and Hayabusa, type in Sports tourers and BOTH of these bikes will show up.
      HYPER Sports Tourers is another name they are known by.
      To say these bikes, including the Blackbird are not considered sports tourers is just plain DAFT!!!...😂😅😂

    • @stevesmith6236
      @stevesmith6236 Před 3 lety

      @@juliusilori Installing a top box or saddlebags on any motorcycle doesn't make it a sports tourer. Some well known and acknowledged FACTORY sport tourers are the Kawasaki Concours, H2SX, and Ninja 1000, the Honda ST 1100 and1200 and Yamaha FJR1300. As I write this I am referring to both a 2000 and 2003 OFFICIAL Honda sales brochures The 2003 clearly states on the cover SPORTBIKES and the first motorcycle it lists is the CBR1100XX.
      The other sales brochure simply reads at the top of the cover 2000 HONDA SPORTBIKES. Inside the 2000 brochure next to a top picture of the CBR1100XX is reads......"Easily the most refined sportbike on the road today, the XX is designed do it all : sport touring, serious canyon riding and anything in between." That is the only mention of the XX as BEING CAPABLE OF sport touring. So as official sales brochures from Honda both state, the XX is a "sportbike". Guess it's the motorcyclists in Europe that think the XX is a "sport tourer" and didn't originate from Honda as a SPORTBIKE who are "DAFT" . Your turn.........

    • @juliusilori
      @juliusilori Před 3 lety +2

      @@stevesmith6236 I STICK by what I say, here in England they are classed as Sports tourers. I seen many a zzr1400 and blackbird with a top box and panniers, in fact I bought my blackbird 3yrs ago and it came with top box and panniers cos the old owner regularly toured Europe with his wife. Before the first honda fireblade came out and changed EVERYTHING, the original zzr1100 and susuki gsxr1100 were looked at and called sports bikes, there was no such thing as a Hayabusa or Blackbird then. The original zzr1100 and susuki gsxr1100 were MUCH heavier than the bikes that came after the blade, hence they became sports tourers, hyper tourers. Today your R1 's, Blades , Ducati's etc are sports bike's, the zzr1400 Back bird aren't the type of bike used on a track, not saying they can't because I have. The yamaha fj1300 and kawasaki concourse are plain tourers NOT SPORT tourers.

    • @stevesmith6236
      @stevesmith6236 Před 3 lety

      @@juliusilori There is absolutely no disputing the fact that HONDA referred to the XX as a sportbike. I have the official brochures to prove it. Also, it's spelled "Concours", there is no "e" on the end of the name. Also, what's a "Back bird" ( seven lines down in your response)? The XX NEVER came with a top box or saddlebags. not even as a Honda accessory. You can install bags and a box on a dirt bike but that doesn't make it a sport tourer. The XX may well be made into a competent sport touring motorcycle, and apparently is it's most popular way to accessorize and use it in Europe. It still never started out as being anything other than a large displacement, heavy sportbike.

      If you're mature enough and knows not to push it and never ride beyond your level of skills then sure. you can jump on most bikes if you RIDE SAFE....
      If you compare this one to, let's say, a Yamaha MT10 then this one is much calmer because you get the power in the higher RPM's where as on a MT10 you get instantly power straight from the start. with this bike it because "scary" when you twist the throttle and wait....
