  • What a day! 20 steps into this field and i knew it was gonna be one heck of a day! A field on a hilltop that to my knowledge has never been hunted. From the looks of it, it sure seemed that way. There were flakes and broken pieces laying all over. As i would make a pass from one side of the field to the other, it was unusual not to find at least a couple broken pieces. I got spoiled really quick and found myself wondering what was going on if i made a pass without finding anything! Overall i wound up finding over 80 pieces broken and whole, mostly broke due to years of farming, all in this crazy one day hunt. A day i'll never forget. Not all pieces are featured in this video, but a number of the highlights and oddball pieces are shared here. I hope you enjoy! Please like, subscribe, and comment with any input!

    This was just awesome! So many great artifacts. I had this same experience a few years ago when a farmer let me on to his private field to hunt for artifacts. Most of his finds were from the seat of his tractor. He told me to go down there as the field had been plowed and rained on a couple of times. I found around 84 good pieces and about twice that many broken pieces. I have them all in a case. It was a day I will never forget. I have been looking there since that time and have found hundreds more artifacts.

      That’s incredible! It makes you wonder how long it took for that many artifacts to accumulate in one spot. It’s always amazed me that someone with access to something like that would just pass it up. It’s good for people like you and I though! Haha

      Haha man that took a looong time for me to master! I do it mainly because when I go back and watch finds from years past when, I always hated hearing myself in the background. I enjoy viewing my own videos not hearing myself, so that’s the reasoning behind that! Thanks for checking them out!

    When I was a boy 57 years ago I stumbled upon an untouched site it looked like they just walked out the day before. There were so many artifacts I had to strip out of my overalls and tied the legs up. And filled them to the top I lost a few along the way back to the cabin every time I hit a patch of stinging nettles. I'm in my 70s now and that is one of my fondest Boyhood memories. Except for the stinging nettles. Thanks for taking me along

      Wow.. I enjoyed hearing this memory of yours immensely! The thought of stumbling upon something like that gives me the chills. The thought of the stinging nettles gives me the chills too! I bet your legs were so itchy and tore up after that. Did you manage to hang on to all those artifacts after all these years? Where did you grow up?

      I have a hematite tomahawk a few parts some hoes plummets and a few points I had them stored at my father's house
      When I went into the Navy, my adopted brother got into them and passed them out to all his grade school buddies.
      I grew up in Mineola, Missouri. It's about 8 Mi south of Graham Cave in the loutre River valley.

      @patrickbush9526 I’m glad you managed to still have at least some of that for your collection. That’s painful to hear about your brother though! I bet you made him pay a hefty price for that. Haha I know I would’ve had to contain myself if that had happened to me.

      I guess the innocence of his youth is excusable. Haha I can just see it now, him being like.. “I brought these things my brother calls clovis’ for show and tell. I brought a box of them so everyone take one as a keepsake and pass it…” haha I bet you have thought of going back there. Many times! Sounds like it was a place to behold.

    Looks like Spring starting your way, expecting ice and snow here tomorrow. Love the sound of those Peepers. That field must be like some that old timers talk about being artifacts everywhere. That last piece looks like the Sedalia Diggers around here. Great discovery, there is many happy hunting in that field in the future👍🏻

    • @Points365
      @Points365  Před 3 měsíci

      It feels great to have spring slowly creeping back, and the sound of spring just makes you feel that much better! Getting the chance to walk that field was definitely something I’ll never forget. I truly believe it when I hear them speak of the days when they would walk with buckets picking them up. I could have probably easily half filled a 5 gallon bucket that day had I picked up every single thing I came across. I had to make a pile of stuff after each pass and collect it as I left. I definitely had to cinch my belt up a notch or 2 to keep ‘em up on the walk out! Haha
      It most definitely looks like a Sedalia digger. Sedalias aren’t common here, but it’s not impossible I reckon! Thanks as always buddy!

      Man oh man… I enjoy hearing stories like that! I live on my old family farm now. Been in the fam since the 1880’s. I find a number of mule shoes in the creek and washout ditches around there. I’ve wondered many times what would be found in that hollow with the creek running through it if it were to be plowed. Last time it was farmed was the early 80’s, so the small to medium size trees are aplenty.

    Heckuva day for a field hunt! Around here all they do is run a disk over them anymore; anything you find seems to be busted. You got some good ones in that bunch!

    • @Points365

      Amen to that! A disc every now and then is all they mostly do around here as well. No till has taken ahold of most places. Fortunately tobacco is a big crop for TN, which requires plowing! As you mentioned though.. the broken ones come along with hunting fields. I was pleased to find some whole ones though! Thanks as always buddy!

    Crazy!! You already have the best places on the river to hunt now you have the best fields in America to hunt!!! Again you need to play the power ball bro!!!! Awesome saves!!!! How many trips did you have to make to the truck with all that rock?? lol. The graver was my favorite.. Seriously you should make a golf ball washer of sorts if you go back just for efficiency purposes so cleaning those rocks up doesn’t slow you down.. That would be pretty slick actually..

      It definitely took 1 trip to carry everything back, I had most of it wrapped up in my jacket like a big pouch, and the remaining in every pocket I had. I definitely had to cinch my belt up a couple notches to keep my pants up! Haha
      I’m digging the ball washer idea though man!! Creativity in action right there.

    • @Points365
      @Points365  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I agree… I still can’t get over it really. There’s no telling how much is still there just below the surface! The last one I’m not really sure what it is? Maybe axe.. maybe a spade? A lot of the spades I find have the cortex on the back end of them like this piece does, but I imagine they were probably made similarly.

      Haha man it was so funny! I started out filling up my coat pocket. Then pockets on my flannel. Then all the pockets on my pants. It got so cumbersome I just made a pile and picked them up wrapped up in my jacket for the walk back! There was a good size creek at the bottom of the hill. The field was on top of a hill with about a 4-500 yard walk down a steep hill to the creek. When I saw that place, I just KNEW it had to be loaded! Thanks as always buddy!

    I didn't see anyone commenting but that point at 13:47 is an intentional complete point. I'm going on 70 year old memory but I have several of these points in my collection. I think they are called bifurcated points (not sure about name). They would take their striking stone and hit the top of the point trying to create this form. When done properly a razor sharp edge is created and thus used as a smooth edge extra sharp tool. Sure miss the days back when I was in my 20s and 30s. ALLLL DAY LONG!!!! I could go sun up to sun down. Now???? I'm out of breath by the time I get to the truck. HA!!!!

    • @Points365
      @Points365  Před 3 měsíci +1

      That’s really interesting about that piece you’re talking about. You could tell it was an intentional notch taken out. That or resharpened after a ding. I wasn’t really sure.
      But I hear ya man… I’m still a whopper snapper in my 40’s, but I can def tell the sun up to sundown days take a little more gas in the tank than they used to! I bet you amassed quite the collection over all those years.

      Yeah in hindsight I should’ve tried harder to get that done. I tried laying them all out on the tailgate, but there wasn’t enough room. I still have most of the broken stuff in a bucket. It’s so much to go through, I haven’t even had time to go through it all and clean em up.

    What is the material of that pencil drill? Is it local? It appears to be a mix of Harrodsberg and Hornstone. Their rannges overlap, but only slightly.

    • @Points365
      @Points365  Před 3 měsíci

      I went and grabbed that piece to get a better look at it. I’m not really the best at identifying material but I do have quite a few hornstone pieces. The drill has similar color, but a different look to it. It could just be made out of the material closer to the cortex though? I looked up harrodsberg and would have to say that looks more likely.

      I have someone with me standing over my shoulder basically every time I hunt! Haha When I meet people at artifact shows, they are almost always in disbelief that “Points 365” is basically a duo! All my buddies are lined up to hunt with me when the other member of the duo sits one out.. But she hates to get left behind, so that rarely happens! I really do appreciate the offer and taking you up on that isn’t off the table. NE AL is only a couple hours from me, and going that far for artifacts is no big deal!

    • @Points365

      The one at the end I “think” was used as a spade… maybe an axe. But a lot of the spades / axes like that I find aren’t broken, but still have the cortex on the back end. I probably have 16 or so of them like that and one thing they all have in common is the cortex on the back side.
      I about fell out when that thing came out myself! Haha

    • @Points365
      @Points365  Před 2 dny

      Based off of the points found I would give a general estimate of roughly 4,000 years old. Some pieces newer for sure. The depth at which the soil was turned over was probably the limiting factor as far as age goes. I bet if the plow was able to go a foot deeper, paleo (roughly 12,000 years old) would be showing up. Being on a high ridge overlooking a river, it was likely a frequented spot for many thousands of years!
