Really creative on the metalwork on the back. I'm anxious to see how you finish it out on the top of the tailgate, contours and all. By the way, it sounds like you've figured out how to extend the cable shifter. A friend of mine told me he used to work on and modify old Vanagons. It seems those came also with 5 speeds and not just 4 speeds or autos. He said he's never seen a longer cable assembly whether shifter or clutch. Not sure how many might be around in junkyards anymore or how much new parts might cost, though. Could be shocking......
