Mark is recognised for being one of the greatest guitarists in the world according to Rolling Stone magazine. He makes his guitar sing. Romeo £ Juliette and you have been given great recommendations by other comments. You will soon see how brilliant they are. Great reaction Adam and please continue to react to them

First time seeing you react and really enjoyed your commentary. These guys are first class musicians and Mark Knopfler is a genius songwriter and guitarist. If you want to explore further I might suggest the Alchemy live concert with songs like Sultans of Swing, Tunnel of Love and the mind blowing Telegraph Road. You will not regret it. Take care mate.

Here's a tip. Listen to music without watching music videos. There are exceptions obviously, Dire Straits' Money For Nothing for example, but music videos rarely reflect what the songs are truly about.
In this case, shut your eyes and imagine a Raymond Chandler style film noir and listen to the lyrics. It's simply the story of jaded Phillip Marlowe-esque private investigator. The playout evokes one of those moments in those types of films where, for example, the investigator is rummaging through files in a suspect's office and nearly gets caught. John Ilsley's bass guitar acts as the PI's thumping heartbeat as he hides and the other instrumentation then gets you imagining the danger ramping up and the PI nearly getting caught before finally escaping.
It's sheer brilliance and very much a Mark Knopfler trait. He writes 'visually' and composes the music to match, generating the required feel and emotion. It's no surprise that he's also an accomplished film score composer with numerous credits to his name including Local Hero and The Princess Bride. The guy's a genius, there's no other word for him.

Mark Knopfler wrote a lot of different types of songs, you should also hear "Telegraph Road", "Brothers in arms", "Love Over Gold", "Your latest trick", "Tunnel of love" and "Planet of New Orleans"

Adam! How you have missed out and with the Tyneside connection as well! Dire Straights have such a wide variety of tracks, many different feels. Mark's guitar playing is unique and so distinctive. Try "Brothers in Arms", written at the time of the Fauklands war or "Tunnel of Love", so nostalgic for us that remember the Spanish City.

After listening to Dire Straits and the Mark Knopfler solo since they came out, I think Mark summed up his songwriting with the title of the their third album, Making Movies. He makes musical vignettes, would be the best way I can put it. Using pretty much every genre of music available. I would argue he is the greatest songwriter of my lifetime.

Hi just discovered your channel. Very cool. I think you'll really love the song called Calling Elvis from DIRE STRAITS Live ON THE NIGHT 1993. They are so good in concert. Towards the end of this performance there are some awesome little surprises that you dont see any more from a band, or at least very often. Cheers All the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸

A pity that someone obviously from the North East that hasn’t had much experience of Dire Straits. Try Telegraph Road live Alchemy, Tunnel of Love, Sultans Of Swing live Alchemy, watch the live versions if you can, that way you can see the band at work, and they’re worth seeing.
Other songs worth listening to or watch the videos to are Sailing To Philadelphia and What It Is from Knopfler’s solo albums.
Listen to DireStraits Alchemy Live Album and you’ll soon realise why DS were sometimes referred to as the worlds greatest rock and roll orchestra.
